every generation has supposedly been ruined by whatever the latest media was at the time. Videogames arn’t ruining kids more then comics or rock and roll or cave paintings did.
Yes but I still see 2 year old kids watching happy tree friends all the time, I might be the minority here but that’s pretty fucked.
Yeah, for that exact reason, my folks restrict what my half-brother watches
What does he watch?
well, whatever happens to be on the TV.
I’d just like to say that the video didn’t shock me at all, looks like it would be cool to play aswell. Very atmospheric and impressive.
Sure, it’s a little controversial with regards to political correctness… but what’s the real difference between shooting an armed, designated enemy and shooting a civilian in a video game? The difference is a few lines of code.
Hell, do you know how many WWII games actually allow you to play as the ‘axis forces’ (excluding multiplayer)? … it’s a minority of them. But why? Again, it boils down to political correctness and not having the balls to play the truth.
Of course, games with such explicit content need an appropriate rating, but that isn’t the issue… at what point is a a small group of people deciding what mature adults can or can not play/watch acceptable?
The mainstream media needs to realise the distinction between video game violence and real violence and stop trying to connect them in such an alarmist fashion to stirr up controversy.
which is why I question ESRB’s ratings of Lego’s batman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones older than say, Madden NFL.
im prety sure this section is in there exactly to stir up controversy and get a shitload of free publicity and it looks like its workin.
I don’t see why everyone freaks out about this, but doesn’t get nearly as worked up about the GTA series. That game is entirely made to shoot, run over, and bludgen random citizens to death for no apparant reason. This is ONE LEVEL of Modern Warfare 2, it’s not like you’re just hopping to random airports and gunning everyone down through the whole game.
At least the ones I had to babysit for 3 years. And the ones that were in my elementary school. And the ones at the summer camp at I volunteered at this summer. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems hard to believe it’s a coincidence. I don’t think this is like how people think rock and roll made the kids bad, but these kids enjoy some pretty fucked up shit that is rated higher than porn.
I lost my train of though but there you go.
Horseshit. If I ever see someone get stabbed, or shot in real life, I’ll freak the fuck out. People have been saying that we’re “completely desensitized to violence” for decades. We’re not, and we never will be. Violence in a video game, or in a movie, a comic book, whatever, and violence in real-life are two completely different things.
Poop
GTA games are unrealistic places where you can mess around and massacre a bunch of polygons that look like people but are not made to feel like such. If MW2 lives up to the expectations of the previous game, it is a gritty, realistic depiction of Modern Warfare, and the slaughter of civilians is not a light matter where you laugh as peoples go flying away when you shoot one of the 5000 rockets you are carrying at them after which you go and kill 500 cops that chase after you while ultimately suffering no consequences.
That’s very astute, and I’m impressed. Fix up your writing and you might actually elevate yourself above the general pond-scum of the forums.
Kids have always enjoyed fucked up stuff though. I mean, look at Itchy and Scratchy. That’s pretty much the same as Happy Tree Friends but no-one bats an eyelid. Also, I’ve been told many a fucked up story that turned out to be from the bible. People are just plain fucked up.
Damn you’re quick.
Sorry, I was just thinking about what was at the top of my head at the time.
Also, I like how the fourm title says “Leakes Massacre Footage,” followed by “[SPOILER WARNING].”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If you were playing Axis soldiers, or time-traveling military, or goddamn zombies, no one would care. The only reason this scene has gotten so much attention is because you’re playing a terrorist (or undercover CIA agent, it’s really semantics in this case), and that’s not politically correct. You kill civilians all the time in all kinds of games and no one cares. Sure, GTA is MADE for that sort of thing, and you don’t suffer any consequences, but what about in games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, or Splinter Cell: Double Agent? In Bioshock you cut open little girls and tear out their insides with your bare hands. Was a word of dissent raised? No. No one cared in those games because you still knew that your character was basically good from the storyline. The only difference is that it’s “not okay” to depict a player as a terrorist.
Try telling that to the Noobs of Css.
I never knew it physically possible to talk out of your arse.
Well done.
Truly artistic? IMO not at all. Yeah they were lookin’ good, but real Art? Nah. If you want real Artistics games you’ll have to go with indie developers such as Tale of Tales or Nifflas.
