Well, after all that years of waiting just 1,2 months more is not a problem. Moreover, today Croteam have released Serious Sam HD remake of their first oldschool FPS.
Looks like end of 2009 will be remake paradise for gamers.
December 29 is in 2009. December 31 is in 2009. December 31 at 11:59PM is in 2009 (depending on timezone and there’s no reason to suggest that it’s a timezone in the contiguous 48 United States–it could be 2:59AM January 1, 2010 on the West Coast of the US and still be in 2009, technically).
There’s a full six days after Christmas. If there’s going to be no BM in 2009, they could post a message at 11:59 PM saying that the mod will be in 2010 and still be accurate.
EDIT: In short, they still have a long while before 2010. Do your holiday shopping. Put in lots of extra hours at work. Play Half Lifes 1 through Episode 2 again on impossibly hard settings. Watch Freeman’s Mind and Civil Protection. Or do something entirely different. 2010 will be here before you know it. Then you can :jizz: over the new mod.
As the cliche goes, a watched pot never boils…
Well with one month to go, i’m sure the dev team would know if they could finish it this year or not, they either can or just wont tell us :<
That’s simply way too much expectation. You should chill.
It’s best not to expect anything.
My opinion! take as long as you need and make a finished product as i said before
but im gunna stay out of when it will be released now as clearly there is no way of telling at this moment in time… Tomorrow would be awesome tho
hint hint haha
Hey, how about sometime today?
[edit] well nevermind this haha i think i just missed a whole page
I actually wouldn’t mind if the mod was delayed, delays are good.
LIES!!!
Sometimes. They made the “2009” announcement over a year ago, though, so unless they hit major bumps in the road that I missed in my long absence from these boards…
- Devs put 2009 in the trailer as a representation of the estimated completion.
- Ram updated us to say they are still aiming at this but would let us know if they can’t make it.
- people complain that the devs aren’t giving them a “where things are up to” update.
Firstly, such updates are off the table regardless (see the many copies of the project leader’s quote on this - and no I’m not going to search for it for you).
Secondly, if they are as close to the end as it seems, they will be bug-hunting. It is by definition impossible to know how many bugs are left, therefore impossible to estimate how long it will take to find them, let alone fix them. Thus, such a requested update is not even possible.
Therefore, I suggest we all stop bothering them and let them continue testing and polishing, trusting that the level of perfection they decide to stop at will be sufficiently awesome - something that the heretofore released media has already proven.
Ok, honestly now. If they felt they needed to postpone release until 2010 that would be fine.
There’s a fuck ton of dedication and free time gone into this project so far and its already better than most modern day commercial releases because its not about money. In the end it comes down to them taking the time needed to perfect every aspect they can before releasing.
If they push for a 2009 release thinking “Ignore this bug for now, we’ll patch in 2010 at some point” or “If that room isn’t finished, just remove it and we’ll release it later and call it DLC” then they may have well as been serious back in April 2008 when they said they were working for EA Games.
In response to Guf: I could just imagine the update from the team.
“We regret to inform you that the release date has been pushed back to early 2010. This is due to a number of bugs were are in the process of fixing. The fact that the devs were dealing with an endless cavalcade of emails asking when we were releasing the mod has slowed our progress somewhat and we should have been done by now. Bastards.”
I thought you guys would realise that it would be released when its done .
Any sooner than that an it won’t be ready, even if it’s released.
I’m hoping it’ll be done before it’s released personally…
Here’s the thing, guys - We want to make an awesome game for you to play, not a crappy recreation that doesn’t do the original game justice (if you couldn’t tell from our existing stuff that we’ve posted already), time be damned. It’s not like this is a retail product and we’ve taken a ton of preorders and have delayed the release a zillion times (in that case people would have reason to be angry) - on the other hand this is a free mod put together in our spare time. If a bunch of impatient people get whiny and uppity on the internet because they want to play it NOW and it’s not done, I don’t think any of us really care that much. People whine and bitch on the internet all the time because they don’t get their way. I don’t think any of us really care that much, and it doesn’t affect our development strategy at all.
I know a lot of people are eager to play and have been waiting patiently, I think I speak for many devs when I say that we want to get this finished so we can move on to other endeavors, but we want to make sure we have something awesome here before we release it to the masses. The amount of frustrated people would increase tenfold if we were to push out a half-assed release tomorrow as opposed to delaying the date a bit and getting everything down tight, I imagine.
Edit: holy crap ninja post deletion, James
But serious, keep up the good work guys, we’re fully behind you 100%
I wish I found out about this mod this year rather than three years ago. Maybe the tension wouldn’t be so built up for this mod by now.
Ha ha, too true. at least you didn’t spot it when it was first conceived oh so many years ago. now thats a helluva long wait. Anyways, it doesn’t really matter when we think its going to be released because in the end its going to be released when its done. A better question would be what qualifies as “done”.
Let’s hope they aren’t taking the 3DRealms approach;
Make a rough version of the mod
change engines three or four times
get sued by another team for not releasing the mod on time
Fir-er Downsize the team responsible for making it
