They do still expect to release it in 2009.
They said they would let us know if they didn’t think they could make that deadline. They have not told us that they don’t think they can make it. Therefore they still think they can make it. Therefore they expect to make the deadline.

Nowhere in the post Ram made did he explicitly state that they expect to. My point was that in the context of his post, they are working as hard as they can to release before the end of the year, rather than rush themselves by recommitting to a release deadline. I like your continuous optimism, Dillxn, it can get infectious, but I have to be the pessimist side of the coin.
They specifically said they would let us know as soon as possible if it became apparent that it wasn’t going to make a 2009 release. The fact that they haven’t said anything yet implies that they still believe the single player content can make a 2009 release. I still wouldn’t count on it though.
Ah, well your stance is probably smarter, but I can’t deny my overly-optimistic tendencies ;]

I think he was reiterating what you said to try and explain to Garcian that what Ram said was pretty much synonymous with “expect”.

but yeah really. going off what ram said, the devs “think” they will release it this year, as they haven’t said otherwise. which means that they expect it to be released this year.

I can see how it can be read that way, but as I said in an earlier post - I’m the pessimist, so I didn’t read Ram’s post as being ‘expect it in 2009’, because of the ‘if we’re releasing it in 2010, we’ll let you know’. I’m aware such a message hasn’t been made yet, but - personally - I’m not expecting it 2009.

I am expecting to be notified if they feel they can’t achieve a 2009 release, because that’s what we’ve been told to expect.
I am not expecting to be told that after christmas, because after is too close to 2010.
I am expecting the release to be before christmas, so that the developers can enjoy some kind of break.
I am expecting the release to be our and my christmas present. If I don’t get my christmas present I will create my own release out of cardboard and have fun that way if need be :’(
Creating your own release out of cardboard? Isn’t that somewhat extreme?
How awesome would a Cardboard Mod (cbMod for short) be? Something that replaces all of the NPC and enemy models with cardboard cut-outs.
It would have to be done for real, with actual cardboard standees, otherwise you’re just not trying hard enough!

Not what I expected that’s for sure. I know that we’re ahead of everyone else here in New Zealand (+13 GMT, woohoo!) but even that was pushing things a bit too far.
Being so far ahead though does mean that I feel the marching beat time more keenly than others in the US, who are a whole 18+ hours earlier.
