In your rude way, you were implying that PC’s are nothing more than tools while real gaming belongs to consoles. Yeah, it’s your opinion but when you think that way, you’re just confirming your position as a console fanboy who will argue as much as he can to affirm his opinion as the only true fact.
You’re better than that but you are just too proud and have a reputation to maintain.
If you prefer Consoles, that’s fine. I prefer them for platformers, and I’d never pass up a quality game just because it’s for a console if I had the choice.
It’s just that many console users, like many apple users, are sheep. They’ll buy whatever’s next in the series, as long as it holds the brand name. That means the companies (I’m not going to say developers, since, when you think about it, the only choice they have is to keep working or quit) can churn out any piece of crap and have it sell. This happened with Halo/CoD. Sure, the original was okay, but the new ones added no new mechanics, no new ideas, it’s just the same thing in a different set of maps with shinier models.
That’s how an industry dies- even if it’s making profits, it’s only a shell of it’s former self.
Oh wow, ODB, you just dug a hole into your own argument.
If games are nothing more than 3D applications, wouldn’t that make consoles dedicated render farms with custom controllers instead of keyboard and mouse?
Wait what? Rudeness towards what? A piece of hardware? Wake up. You sound like a total inadequate geek.
Well, consoles are 3d rendering tools too in the way, inferior ones. But it is only one side of the coin.
Don’t be ridiculous. Why take things so fucking personally?
Yeah, for me, the only advantage I see for PC is in it’s hardware. Can’t be far from truth. And for me it is negligible.
I do, however, apologize for making you think that way.
Oh yeah, let’s just start this shit again.
Really now.
Also, While its true that as a 3D rendering platform its better than consoles, that’s not the only way.
Custom levels, modifications, and new creations that console games are just truly beginning to experience in some ways have been around since games like doom and quake, and the most active parts of the communities are still those people who edit.
In a sense, it makes a game way more worth it in the long run. Its why Halo custom edition is so much more worth it then playing the original on the xbox, many new and fresh ideas can be implemented through mods in custom levels, same goes for games like quake 1, hl1, hl2 and almost every pc game that has some sort of mod tools/level editor.
Games such as quake, doom, UT are still played over a decade after they were released, and UT and Quake 3 are 2 that are still heavily played.
Add the fact that there are good game-based chat programs and services that provide you with a good way of getting in touch with friends for free, and most new games support xbox gamepads so control schemes aren’t really an issue.
You are entitled to your opinion, but saying that PCs are only better for graphics compared to consoles is a mild understatement.
You do realize the story of the Xbox, don’t you? Microsoft wanted the PC to be THE gaming platform, and wanted to gain a monopoly over OpenGL, and introduced “DirectX.” This technology was great, and everyone was happy. Then, they saw an opportunity in the console market. Microsoft invested ridiculous amounts of cash into the developing/making of a console, with hopes that it would pay back the deficit in a few years. Boy did it ever. Now they realize they can’t just make everyone on PC move to Xbox, hence the continuation of DirectX for PC, (and on the Xbox,) but they’d gladly toss you all into hell if it meant you’d buy an Xbox.
more? I haven’t seen a single one, and don’t need to, I can tell why people do what they do and say what they say, and I’m sure you can understand why people prefer only having a PC do all the work instead of multiple devices that each get you half way there.
hey garth, I thought you were ignoring me? Too tempting to look?
Okay, mods. I forgot about them. OH PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
Well maybe it’s because It’s 2:42 am in my place.
Dunno what do you mean about servers, but if you are talking about 12 year old mic spamming faggots, then yes.
About graphics, yes (it’s sorta goes from my own argument about hardware), but performance - not really. Most games I played were lag free (GTA4 being an exception when ramming a lot of of people in congested areas).
I’m not sure if you understood what I’ve written in that post.
Oh I’m sure you’re drooling by only thinking about it.
I meant the ability to host your own servers or rent one, to install modifications on them. For example, in Call of Duty 2 there was a huge 64 slot zombiemod server. Not only was this server so popular it was almost full 24/7 - it spawned a community roughly the same size of the BM: S community. This shows the power of modding and dedicated servers combined. Endless hours of fun. This is just one of many many examples.
That, to me, is the ultimate advantage of being a PC gamer, if they take that away then PC gaming is worthless.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
