Microsoft's arrogance

Things like this make me want to switch to linux…

He’s right, though. It seems like the only people still playing PC FPS games are Valvefags and people that still play anything by id software.

this

Kudo Tsunoda is a fucking douchebag.

There may be more people playing on console but claiming that “hardly anyone” plays on PC is pretty damn ignorant.

Surely it’s overly exaggerated and that’s an understatement.

But seriously, how many PC exclusive high-quality FPS do you get lately? I wouldn’t be afraid to say none. And do you really think that PC has a significant advantage in numbers of copies sold (aside from piracy)? Don’t be naive. Look at modern warfare 2. Best selling console title of 2009. It may be sad for some (not for me), but it is true.

Then compare today’s situation to what was 10 years ago.
Sales figures don’t lie. PC gaming is slowly “dying”, and you can hardly do anything about it. World is changing, whether you like it or not.

It may be just a current trend, but i highly doubt it. Most common bought PCs now are low-to-middle end OEMs and are not gaming rigs which cannot appropriately handle newer games.

The worst thing is, they did some tests with mouse + keyboard vs controller and the controller failed epically!

I also don’t get why people tend to love exclusives, imo it’s only better, so more people can play it.

Doesn’t help that the PC versions most of the time are just afterthoughts that barely respect PC gaming standards. Console gaming is king nowadays because that’s where all the effort goes. Only a few companies frankly care about the needs of the PC gamers, the rest only does the minimum effort to make sure their code runs on PC and that the controls respond to keyboard strokes.

I understand that money is the reason for this, what I don’t understand is why PC gaming stopped deserving any respect at all from most companies. Seriously, if you’re going to barely make any effort at all for the PC version, then why do it at all?

You’d so want to believe that, do you?

it’s not profitable to focus on PC gaming anymore. Thank god for what you are offered now. Could have been much worse. PC gaming logically should have pretty much obsolete itself ever since the first console was out. But it managed to hold on for much, much longer. And still does hold on because of the hardware and those few geeks who would still care about running Crysis in 1080p.

Maybe it’s not profitable because they don’t focus enough on them? Shitty PC ports and lack of exclusive big budget games is driving many PC gamers to the console side.

I can see a conspiracy here.

Money ruins everything.

What exactly does it prove? It proves less than you’d want to believe it does.

@Maxey, added to my post.
EDIT: Also, don’t be stupid. There is no conspiracy. They do what the majority want. If the majority wanted PC gaming, consoles would die out before they were even born.
They don’t listen to every opinion on the planet. They just occasionally take a look at sales figures and make appropriate decisions. This is how large businesses work.

Microsoft is full of shit.

Yet they still make a shitload of money. Blame “stupidity” of the masses, not MS
@ MAxey:
I also, can’t help but notice that more and more games I play on PC more or less require joypad for comfy playing. It was way different when I had my first PC game in 1998… actually, two - Rage: Incoming and Fallout. And then shortly after, Half Life.

Which console are you speaking of? Historically, games on PC started well after console gaming. It got pretty successful and stayed that way for a long time. Meanwhile, console gaming was equally successful. The two things never really competed with each other until this decade, when Microsoft decided to enter the console race and make it bigger than Jesus.

By making console gaming more profitable than any other form of entertainment, they basically gave companies a pass to stop caring so much about PC gaming.

Ah, but wouldn’t it be better to improve even more what already fills your ass full of cash by basically neglecting a source that is starting to run dry but has lots of people who are thirsty?

Sorry, mixing shit up. Of course, commodore was way after the first console.
Either way, don’t blame MS for today’s situation. Someone else would do it anyway. They just happened to be the first.

You’re better off asking them personally, because i don’t know. But I think they are fine with OS and Xbox sales. Also, lots of people? I don’t see how full on focusing on Games for Windows and introducing PC game quality standards for developers (if that’s what you want) would give them any significant profit in return, pound for pound, dollar for dollar. Even worse, it would probably turn developers away from PC market completely.

If Microsoft can’t bring the PC players to the consoles, then they will bring the console to the PC. Remove modtools, remove dedicated servers = more controll and more chance that people will buy DLC which is usually just refurbished singleplayer content (maps).

This is how I feel about the console war. Consoles being so successful is a result of the masses. I wouldn’t say its “stupidity”, since the appeal of consoles is obvious for the casual gamer, but for those that want to get the most out of their games the PC is clearly the way to go (at least it was, when PC versions of games were better than their console counterparts and not just horrible ports :expressionless: ), but this whole chain of events causing consoles to gain popularity over PCs is both because consoles are easier to get than high-end gaming PCs to casual gamers, and because they bring in more money to developers than PCs due to piracy and other factors

It proves what I just said, that mouse + keyboard > controller. Which still strikes me odd, since consoles are especially made for gaming.
The only reason consoles got as big as they are on the first place is because there is one company is behind it and pays a lot of money for it, which isn’t the case for PC. Sony, Microsoft and many developers tend to forget that they’re making games and shouldn’t just do it for the money, because no matter how much money you put in the development of a game, the motivation and the dedication of the developers matter much more. Just look at Black Mesa.

And the pc still holds on because of not only the graphics, but because of the mods (check the site where you’re on), the ability to do much more on it then just gaming and the entire RTS genre plus better controls for FPS. Of course there are things consoles are better in, it just has to do with your own opinion.

Maybe you should look a little bit further then your console, since your acting like a fanboy, not even being able to admit that PC’s are better in any way.

P.S. I’m not happy with what I’m offered now (I can’t even finish GTA IV because of a bug in the last mission…), they should just cancel exclusives so everyone can enjoy there games on whatever platform suits them.

I think piracy ruins PC gaming statistics pretty badly. I mean, it’s not like it’s hard to torrent a game and copy the cracked exe, now is it? Pirating on consoles is a much bigger pain in the ass. Only a couple of my friends own a console, the rest game on PCs (and only a couple of them have a couple of legit games.)

He’s right; very few people play fps on pc anymore. But he’s a complete dumbass in thinking that’s because of Halo. People don’t game on pc because of ignorance, lack of splitscreen, price, and a couple other reasons.

I know 3 or 4 pc gamers, I know tons of console gamers. Perhaps it depends on age group or some other variable?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
