There are no news yet? mh? bad tongues would say the project may be dead.
If not a news or update would be necessary.
Only necessary to stop cockroaches crying.
lol nobody was crying…
just telling what I think…
There has been new media posted to the site recently. Probably the lack of mainpage updates, however, might be due to the fact that they’re concentrating on working on completing the mod instead of updating a website? Silly theory, I know.
I is not interested in teh Balck Meas. Updaets or I leeving
didnt got that.
the thing is i dont expect everyday a news about whats goin on but the last website news is faaaaar away. And even last twitter update was in January.
It is a bit dissapointing not to know if or what is goin on.
I can understand it is nasty to inform the users whats going on but it keeps the users in interest!
Might want to check the Wiki (as has been suggested many times on this forum). There’s a lot of stuff there including media updates.
I wonder why they set up a twitter account and now its unused…
No one expects big text but a line a month via twitter should be minimum…
Though I would really be keen on whats left to do until they release or what percantage the status says… or best would be to know a release date
“Currently refining maps and shiz”
“Currently making game more awesome”
“Currently fixing a bug”
There you all go. Your next 3 twitter updates posted from the comfort of the forums.
You don’t even need to leave the forums to read them!
I’d just like it if devs checked their own work so that at least someone would know how much work is finished and what still needs to be done…
yeah. they do. daily. with each other and on themselves. oh wait, wut are we talking about again?
The thing is, the game is 99.9% finished by now (I’d hope), and now a lot of their efforts are being put into refining everything and fixing any bugs. A percentage value can’t be pit to it, because what is considered complete one day may end up being changed he next to fix a bug or to improve continuity.
Isn’t that what Twitter is used for anyway
Hmm, then why do they always say “we don’t know”? If they know how much work is to be done then why not tell us? Possible answers include: there’s too much work to point out, it’s practically finished so there’s no point in listing stuff or they just don’t want to. Either way we’re screwed .
Or: we don’t know because it’s difficult to ‘calculate’ how much work is to be done, and it can change anyway due to unforeseen circumstances.
Well especially twitter is just for those short news to inform others about what you do. This gives the community the feeling everything is ok they are working on it. It is not as much important to post messages with huge content or amazing new things thats what your real news should be for.
I just dont want to anoy with my post but u have to realize that it is a bit frustrating or irritating for the community members if they dont hear that much.
Especially if they only bookmark the news feed and the twitter feed and then be sad about no updates
The point is informing the community is the unliked job of all in modding guild.
U only like it if u can show amazing stuff but mostly u cant cause it goes slow on. (I know that had a project a few years ago too)
But it is important to have members that are close to the project but concentrate on the public relations.
thats true but a news like we work on the last 3 levels … having only to modell 5 npc … voice records nearly finished … that would be a news to give the community a few about whats going on and how long it may last. But i also know projects that never got over the 90%age line and died before finish…
The thing is everyone that posted anytime here is keen on playing BlackMesa (asap of course).
And I guess many understand that it is not your payed job so we dont expect strict final dates but please dont let the community so long in unknown.
There are all sorts of holes in this example but this is the only way I know to offer why giving a percent is a bad bad BAD IDEA.
Lets assume each level, model, character, etc. has its own developer assigned to that work.
Dec 2005 no one was done with their work. Dec 2006, some pieces came along great. But before too long, lets pretend a snag hit and work had to be redone for some work but not others. Dec 2008 other work was delayed while other work could have been finished.
Where does this track in the grand scheme of things regarding how MUCH done we call it to the community? You could have the level “inbound” done this whole time yet find at beta that it is crap and have to start from scratch and rebuild it. You saw the repercussion of a missed date with the 2009 thing. Imagine if the community heard something like “Well, inbound had to be rebuilt cuz it crashed 100% during testing”.
But wait, creating the level inbound takes TONS longer than it does to create an MP5 Model. So how do you offer a percent of done if each of the projects can’t be weighed the same in the equation?
(spot the typo)

It’s not like building a car, where there is a set number of parts that all go into their own respective places and when all fo the parts are in place you are done.
It is more like building a city. You know it needs roads, buildings, electricity, water supply, water drainage, access points to those utilities, citizens, police, bureaucrats, firefighters, EMTs, plumbers, mechanics, architects, gas stations, truck drivers, cars, bicycles, babies, grandmothers and fathers, domesticated pets, plants, gardens, parks, playgrounds…
I could go on for pages. No one can put a finger on how many more things they need, no one knows how many of each item they need, or how long it will take to create new items, and whenever they change one variable it affects all other variables, and everything needs to be monitored and adjusted as they go along, making percentages completely meaningless and pointless to provide for the people that aren’t involved in the creation of said assets.
The lack of posts / lack of apparent interest does not mean anything. Folks will come out of the wood work the moment the download button appears and we all know it.
