I think there’s a definite loss of interest in BM. I only found out about this mod around this time last year, and I was really excited about it. Even after the “we won’t have it out in 2009” news release, I still had high hopes for an early 2010 release date (ok, we’re almost half way through the year again). I know that this is a free mod and that the dev’s are doing this on their own…………but it seems to me that if they put less time in the BM website, they’d have more time to spend on the mod itself. Don’t get me wrong – I love this website, but yeah……I’d rather use the site to talk about our experiences in game play, etc.
Concider it spotted.
I find this funny because if you are referring to the website design, layout and code, the devs have absolutely nothing to do with that.
If you are talking about posting on the forums I laugh again because only a very few developers ever come here and the ones that do are mostly posting patient replies to silly questions that have been asked over and over and over such as when is the mod done and why has twitter not been updated and other things like that.
So if you want those few devs to post less (which really won’t help development in the slightest seeing as they can post while they wait tor maps to load/eat breakfast/etc) you have two options.
Option #1: The devs should stop being so patient and kind towards new people and adopt the “fuck 'em” attitude of the community.
OR
Option #2: Stop asking silly questions that you already know the answer to.
The website is put together by a web developer. He does nothing else for the mod other than the website. There is no loss of work as a result.
I didn’t read all the discussion here yet, but I found some words that Cman2k posted some time ago explaining why the lack of updates about Black Mesa, and probably it fits perfectly to the point of this thread:
https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=41093&postcount=1637
It makes much sense (for me, at least). That’s why I do not stay here all day bitching about updates. The devs are working on the mod, sooner or later it will be done, so it’s ok to me.
So, if someone is stressed about the lack of updates, go out to do something interesting… Forget BM, go play other games, enjoy your life etc. Come here once in a month and you’ll see all the difference. I do it since 2007 (when I not even knew English to join in the forums), so, why you guys cannot do the same?
I think I am gonna link to that from now on. Thanks for finding that.
Also further shows that cman2k is a BAMF
wut?
A Beautiful Amazing Marvelous Friend.:retard:
Well I know I’m still very interested in the mod. I find it strange that so many of the posters think the devs owe us something. We’re following something they would have done anyway. It’s bloody kind of them to let us in on the process, and also that they’re gonna release it to us at all.
I am interested in what stage they’re at, but mainly because I’m interested in the process of how a mod is developed. I’m perfectly content to wait. Why shouldn’t everyone else. Its not like all the “haters” aren’t gonna download it anyway.
They aren’t getting payed for it and it is taking so long… ?why?
-it means there are other people that can make source bound games besides VALVE.^^
-it means that there are people who care about it:|
-it means they realy want the game to be good.
-and at last they are people how like to make stuff for other people and that is very friendly ^^
-and they also have to study or work (whatever: they also have a LIFE you know)
-and i think this thread should be closed ?why?
YOU GUYS ARE JUST FLAMING ALL THE DEVS (most of you)>
Not asking questions (stupid or otherwise)…merely stating a reply to Evan. As I said, “nothing against the dev’s”. After all it takes a special talent (not too many people have) to do something like this. I’m just looking for a little encouragement here. And don’t get your panties in a knot about the website – I didn’t know that. At least CatzEyes93, in a kindly manner, explained that to me.
I think some of the confusion comes not just from that fateful 2009 release announcement, but that it wasn’t really called off until it was practically here. I think this gave the impression that this was looking like a sure thing until the devs noticed a few more things that needed fixing or tweaking, or there was still a little too much left to QUITE make that release time, little enough that you couldn’t quite make the call until the last minute.
So to a lot of us, it looked like it should at least be out very, very soon, that whatever little work remained that kept the team from making their release announcement would quickly be completed and we’d just have to wait another couple weeks, when in reality that may not have been the case. I’m guessing it was probably more similar to biding time before breaking up with the girlfriend, trying to gather your courage to have “the talk” or think of what to say.
The others wont admit it, but I am betting that many realized what raminator admitted. That he knew months ahead that they were not going to make the 2009 date.
No one wants to be the bearer of bad news tho. So I can understand not saying anything till the very end.
I only found out about this mod towards the end of last year, and only registered a few months ago, but i am still every bit as interested in it as i was when i first saw it, it will hands down be my favorite mod, but i have to admit, i really only post when i feel that i can contribute in some way to the current topic. (how this contributes, I’m not sure )
OH just that it is proof that even if the forums go dead for months on end, the moment the mod releases people of all ages will come back to download and play.
Of this we are all certain. =)
