Left 4 Dead 2

It all boils down to this:

L4D was made by TurtleRock. That’s a group of people who became part of VALVe when they already had L4D almost finished). And they don’t seem to share VALVe’s standard passion for maintaining their games, supporting them with timely fixes and updates. Instead, right after L4D was out, they started working on a sequel. It would seem that they didn’t even consider the option of making it a cheap Expansion pack, perhaps even splitting it into 3 or 4 expansions, each having 2 campaigns and 1 new SI (which would not shatter the community like making a full sequel does).

Plus, they don’t seem to be at all interested in fixing many issues people have with L4D1. Tanks still spawn on fire, Boomer bile still doesn’t stick to some survivors who clearly got a hit…

======
Now, the question to ask yourself is: Do I trust them to support L2D after release? Will they fix issues the game has? Will they remove bugs that are in it? Will they work on online features so that matchmaking is not pain-in-the-ass? Or will they decide to start working on Left3Dead immediately?

Except it doesn’t work that way. L4D was worked on by other people from Valve all through its development, not just after Valve bought Turtle Rock, and once they did, the two companies merged. Lots of the Team Fortress 2 team members worked on L4D, and are in fact now currently working on L4D2 (as per the official Team Fortress blog) and I guarantee you there are people from the former Turtle Rock working on other things within Valve. The decision to make L4D2 was made by Valve (including Gabe Newell - or do you think such major, multi-million dollar decisions as that escape the notice of the boss?), not some subset of Valve. And if they had no passion for maintaining games I wouldn’t have had such a blast on Crash Course recently. Seriously, the levels were brilliant, the new infected HUD is cool and useful, and the new survivor dialogue and safe room text has had me laughing out loud, literally.

Since 2009 began there have been 20 updates for Left4Dead, and the year isn’t even over yet. That’s nearly 2 updates every month. Shut the hell up Alcator.

You obviously have no idea how Valve develops games. They don’t exactly have set teams. People move around working on different projects. If a person gets sick of working on updates for one game they can help out with a different project. As happened with Left4Dead 1 a large amount of the TF2 team has transferred over to Left4Dead 2 to help out. If I remember correctly the Project Lead for Portal, Kim Swift is also working on Left4Dead 2.

Zombie Blockbuster On Track To Top Valve’s All Time Sales

Just pre-ordered it today, can’t wait for the demo to come out.

Pre-ordered it with the 4pack deal a few days ago. Saving money is awesome.

Maybe the exclusive baseball bat is the one that the scout uses in TF2. It would be the same texture, just less cartoony.

I might preorder, but I have to figure out what is making my l4d1 crash my pc first. if that get’s figured I might just be a preorderer aswell.

EDIT: I WANNA PLAY CRASH COURSE! :’(

I think I’ll wait for the reviews before buying this. It looks great, but looks can be deceiving. Then again, its Valve, and I have full faith in them. Argh, can’t decide. I’ll have to think about it more.

Pre-orderededed. Can’t wait to see the demo, either. I originally was pretty skeptical of it being a good game, but I watched a bunch of game play videos, and it’s really quite polished.

I purchased the first Left 4 Dead yesterday. To my dismay my computer is incapable of running it properly. Though the few thing’s I did see impressed me. I hope Left 4 Dead 2 will be of a similar standard, and take place mostly at night.

I’ve heard that they’re selling at 300% the L4D pre-sales.

L4D2 is in my account already, which will be quite funny if it remains banned in Australia. SP for me!

I hate you guys with your non-banned L4D2, I read that Gabe has just sent two copies to the Australian clasification board, one censored and one original. Results wont be out 'till 22nd of October.

Damnit :frowning:

Deimos… ADELAIDE?!

=D

Also, the censored one got cleared and given MA15+, so looks like we’ll get that one unless for some insane reason the board then accepts the re-submitted uncensored one that was banned weeks earlier. But I doubt it.

Hopefully my Steam version will be uncensored.

More importantly, where the fuck is Episode 3?
If I had even the slightest proof that Episode 3’s progress was being hindered by L4D2, I wouldn’t buy it. > :frowning:

Oh, wait. Yes I would. Because it wouldn’t make any difference whether on not I bought it to Valve, and I like video games.

“The board notes that the game no longer contains depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment,” the report said.
“No wound detail is shown and the implicitly dead bodies and blood splatter disappear as they touch the ground.”

Sounds fucking awesome.

Oh, that just take’s half the fun away.

Zombie’s WITH all their limbs…fail.

It will be censored if you buy the game in Australia via Steam.

My opinion is L4D2 looks sweet, and I hope the new Survivors are also to be classics like the original cast.

As to the PC vs console deal, the only reason consoles even exist is because most people are too cheap or computer illiterate to make their PC powerful enough to run certain games. For those of us WITHOUT such lackings, computers are a far superior medium with which to run games. Most games on the PC have higher graphical options due to the fact that PC’s can be of any power you need or want. Plus, it is a FACT by this point that a mouse and keyboard are a far superior method to control games, an advantage particularly prevalent in First Person Shooters and Real Time Strategy games. The feeble joystick is just no match for the control of a mouse. Given the choice, I will always get the PC version of any given game.

Also, console to console I think the 360 is the better, PS3 only just trails behind for certain non-graphics related shortcomings, and the Wii can barely be called anything more than a hyper advanced etch-a-sketch, let alone a console, since Nintendo thinks they’re freaking Fisher Price now and has all but abandoned any attempt to keep up with the other consoles, making a big deal out of games like Mad World and The Conduit which next to most mainstream games don’t even compare, not to mention persisting with the Motion Control gimmick which will never be inducted into or replace common controls and will eventually die out when people realize that one-to-one motion control for games was merely an idea kicked around during contemplation of the future, much like the notion of the flying car, which if you have a brain you’d know would be a horrifyingly bad idea with such impracticality and potential for utter, utter disaster, but unfortunately the hundreds of Wiimotes lodged in LCD screens wasn’t enough to deter people yet, but then, people are stupid, not excluding myself. Hell, I own the damn thing, and I’d sell it except it was a Christmas present.

how it should be.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
