Kleiner and Eli

It’s simple, even with a P.H.D. and basic hazard course training, Dr. Freeman simply didn’t have time to wrap his mind around the ridiculous architectural design of the facility. At times when he would get close, Gman would just lock the door and stand around to make sure Gordon stays on his mission. Kliener and Eli were both paranoid about their safety due to the nature of the experiments, so they studied Black Mesa’s maze of tunnels, hallways and elevators extensively and possibly even secured a secret way around the facility, how else would they have been able to convey messages to freeman through numerous scientists and guards later in the game?

I’m pretty sure it’s not confirmed.

It once said he lost his leg to a dark energy storm or something.

I saw the thread name and thought this was going to be some fantacy thread discussing Eli + Kleiner.

:fffuuu:

??? Two month old thread, and you revive it to correct inaccuracies in blatant hyperbole.

@Calhoun: He lost his leg to a bullsquid. It’s in Raising the Bar.

Well, we ran out ideas of things to troll and stuff in the forums, it’s now onto necroing month old threads to un-bore ourselves.

It did say that but according to doomy Mark Laidlaw retconned it and said otherwise, so I looked it up. I was just looking for something to necropost in.

Originally, HL2 was to feature an enemy npc, simply called ‘Particle Storm’. In the HL2 Beta, there was an unused voice of Eli mentioning he lost his leg to one.

It was a pre-release concept.

Laidlaw once blew a load of BTS info onto some forum i forget, called the ‘Marc Laidlaw Vault’. He explains there that he prefers to think Eli lost his leg to a Bullsquid, in the process of helping Kleiner over a wall. This could be applied to any storyline juncture.

But that happened years ago. People have been discussing the same stuff over and over again anyway. Not to mention the trolling in the Ladies Club.

I am pretty sure Eli suggests that the G-Man helped him, especially when he is pissed that the G-Man is using Alyx to pass cheesy catch-phrases from HL1 in ep2. Eli says that he (Eli) should have known better than to think the SOB (G-Man/Mutual Friend) would have saved Alyx (obligatory not-entirely-ugly woman) without an ulterior motive. After-all, we know Alyx was in BM because she and the picture of his wife are the only things he was able to get out of there.

Indeed, I am surprised by how liberal the Valve devs were with the idea of BM survivors. No less than five personal colleagues (Calhoun, Magnusson, Kleiner, Vance, and Breen) out of a group of people in Anomalous Materials numbering maybe a score manage to get out alive and all survive the following decades of Combine rule (of which only Barney and Breen are high-level targets) and remain within a matter of days travel from one another? Oh yeah, and Judith Mossman just happens to be one of the scientists that manages to survive and be around the plot-line as well, even though she happens to have been your main rival for your job at BM. Coincidences are legion…

Eli, Kleiner and Breen probably used the same techniuqe as Barney and Magnusson. Although, G-Man could have something to do with Breen’s escape. Anyways, Eli probably lost his leg when he tried to talk reason to the Vorts or something, or a zombie’s stomach bit it and they had to amputate it. About Kleiner, did you know that he was Gordon’s teacher at MIT?

Eli lost his leg to a bullsquid, cba to find the source right now but it’s pretty well known.

It’s in Raising the Bar, among other places.

Maybe Freeman wanted to play Half Life :stuck_out_tongue:

I imagine the G-Man had some part in the escape of Eli and Breen, or at least oversaw their escape. After all, he did “pluck” Alyx from Black Mesa. Mind you, Breen could have been fully aware of what was going on and could have been long gone already.

I did write a fanfic (HORROR!) illustrating what happened in the teleportation chamber after Gordon leapt into the portal to Xen. My story is about the scientist on the suspended catwalk that opened the portal.

It shows how Eli and Izzy got out of the facility.

I always thought of Kleiner getting out on his own somehow, or at least with others we don’t know about. Perhaps he was one of the nameless scientists who got out in Blue Shift.

As for Eli, I always thought he got out with Alyx with the assistance of the Gman, perhaps stowing away on one of the retreating trucks of the marines or HECU.

As for Breen, I imagine he was one of the few taken alive. The administrator of the facility would be wanted for questioning top-side, perhaps taken into custody by some extremely secretive government group wanting to know more. I don’t think the Gman intended Breen to survive at all, using him until he was redundant.

There is no reason any surviving scientists that did get out weren’t rounded up and locked away in a cave somewhere, interogated on everything that happened at the facility. Then as the portal storms started taking place and alien lifeforms started showing up everywhere their knowledge became extremely usefull. These people would then go from being the most wanted and secretly kept people on the planet to the worlds most important VIPs, their knowledge literally the only thread of hope humanity has.

As the seven hour war started they would be hauled of to top secret bunkers all around the world. I.E White Forest.

It’s still a major coincidence that the super citadel with its ( as far as I know ) only dark matter reactor happened to be in the closest city to White Forest. Perhaps they were in another bunker, found records of White Forest and moved there to be closer to the action.

I assume that is the only citadel with a dark fusion reactor capable of creating super portals.

If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t have needed to blow it to send their SOS.

And I doubt Kleiner would have left Eli behind. They were friends before the incident, and Eli watched over Kleiner until he was able to move again. Eli wouldn’t have let Kleiner out of his sight in the condition he was in, and Kleiner wouldn’t have let Eli try to save his daughter alone.

I’m sticking with g-man giving them a hand.

Especially since Eli has a small discussion with Gordon concerning “Our Mutual Fiend” at the end of Episode 2.
Eli knows, as for Kleiner… I’m just guessing he chooses not to talk about it.

Or G-man talked to Eli while Kleiner was delirious. G-man also could have also set things up to save Alyx before the cascade. Episode 2 says that Eli had met G-man before the cascade, he could have “saved” Alyx right before or right after he told Eli to prepare.

I know Eli was in Anomolous Materials, looking after the other scientist. I didn’t realise it had been confirmed the other scientist was Kleiner?

I didn’t think it had been confirmed they escaped together.
