Kleiner and Eli

The Black Mesa devs decided a while ago that, for their purposes, those two are Eli and Kleiner. I’m not sure if it’s canon or not, but oh well :stuck_out_tongue:

It is. We have it from Marc Laidlaw.

Is there a source for that? Not that I don’t believe it, I just think it would be a tad contrived.

hmmmm I swear there’s a quote from Laidlaw somewhere, but I can’t dig it up. I wonder if he redacted it?

I checked the ending of Blue Shift and the Combine Overwiki. Those scientists weren’t nameless. The four that escaped were Barney Calhoun, Dr. Walter Bennet, Dr. Simmons and Dr. Rosenburg.

That’s a story I’d like to see in a mod, their journey away from Black Mesa.

For the purposes of telling their story, we would assume that Blue Shift and Opposing Force are canon and that the Seven Hour War didn’t start until after Nihilanth was killed by Gordon.

I figured they’d head east, until the nuke at Black Mesa goes off. Then they would have to divert either north or south to avoid the fallout. Their escape was exactly at the same time the HECU catch Gordon and throw him into the compactor, so I think they would probably have about a day’s head start before the nuke and the beginning of the war. I would assume that they would head south to avoid major population centers.

Breen getting out? He didn’t need to. He probably waited in his office until the combine showed up and that may be where he ‘negotiated’ with them.

As far as Eli and Kleiner getting out… They would have known about the defunct Black Mesa South facility and tried to make their way there too. I don’t quite recall their timeline, but at the south exit there was one jeep and two parking spots. Maybe they already got out by then.

The seven hour war didn’t start until well after Black Mesa I always thought. Years of portal storms and Xen life appearing everywhere before the Combine came through. Also, where is Black Mesa south from?

I don’t think there is a canon time point as to when the combine show up post Incident. I had assumed that it was nearly immediately after the Black Mesa Incident.

My apologies, I had my locations confused. I was thinking of the Section A-17 Prototype Labs which are under the freight yard and called it BM South.

The exit point in Blue Shift is the security gate that controls access to the Black Mesa South Access Tunnel. The tunnel goes under the mountains through a five mile tunnel leading to the actual Black Mesa South Gate.

I don’t think it’s been made cannon in game but I remember reading Laidlaw stated the Combine didn’t come through after years of portal storms and Xen life teleporting in. Cities became really overpopulated from fleeing civilians from the countrysides.

Ah right. Yeah I wanted to make an Op4 2 chapter involving going back to Black Mesa, this being the only area found with a teleporter still in one piece.

I remember playing the HL2 mod ‘1187 Episode 1’ and, if you listen to the news, the news lady says it’s been almost a decade since the Black Mesa incident, and during the mod the Combine haven’t invaded Earth yet, and aliens are still being teleported in. I dunno, maybe there’s something I’m missing.

The mod isn’t remotely canon. Or accurate to the best of my knowledge. I remember it being that the death of the Nihilanth is how the Combine found earth. So I assume that it wouldn’t take them very long after that to show up.

I always guessed about a week after the Black Mesa incident; during that week portal storms.

Seems like a good question to ask Laidlaw.

They just took the nearest fire exit. The one that Gordon missed, and had to go through everything that happened in HL1 to get out, whereas if he had stayed with Eli and Kleiner, they would just had walked out peacefully in a couple of minutes.

I could read the Half-Life wiki, but…

Well first of all, how did Barney escape? If I remember correctly the end cutscene of BlueShift has him and some scientists escaping. One of those people may have been them.

As for the leg, wasn’t that getting into City 17?

Now Breen… He could have been anywhere and could easily have gotten away before the marenes showed up… If I remember correctly he got involved somehow and negotiated the end of the 7 hour war. In the process or afterwards he became aware that Gordon Freeman’s services were for sale.

BlueShift bro, It’s BlueShift

:retard:

Well atleast I’m Half-Right [BuDumTis].

That actually would make for an interesting mod. I hadn’t thought of that before.

Helicopters struggle to do 100 or so miles.

Well, that’s utter rubbish. You’re looking at between 200-400 miles with the world record being in excess of 1000 miles.

I also laughed at the “GreenShift” comment. What would greenshifting even mean? Redshifting means longer wavelengths, blueshifting shorter wavelengths, so I guess greenshifting would be no change in wavelength? Or some process of converging a spectrum to a monochromatic emission, preferably green? I guess in HL given how much of physics is already broken, it could mean turning into a Vortigaunt. You’d think Gordon, being well versed in physics, would pick up on some of the impossibilities and unintelligble jargon.

  1. Enlighten me how Physics is “broken”

  2. What 'impossibilities and unintelligable jargon are you talking about?
Do even know what that means?
