Shephard is awesome, I do not care what others think.
However I am confused as to why all other marines refer to him as “sir” when he’s only a corporal.

Because it would be a test for gordon?? Ah well forget i said it i just thought seem he was the enemy on the first he should be on the sequel.
What about a mod where Shepard takes place in the 7 hour war?
he would never confront freeman and his plot would not influence the hl plot.
He would have his own story.
I imagine him being a soldier fighting against combine - and before the combine conquers the earth gman would show up in the last moment and save Shepard (and put him back to stasis afterwards)
I dont think it would make much sense because why would gman put him in the seven hour war and have him not play as an influence in the plot?
Shepard would have his own plot in the 7 hour war, that plot might have some minor influence to the hl plot
READ THIS ->It’s a different plot, it’s not the hl plot
Maybe gman would have some purpose for shepard in the 7 hour war (perhaps he would make him sabotage earth’s defense or something)
He would have a similar plot to Gordon, yet different and not very much related,he would be a Gordon clone (just like in Opposing Force)
Wont he just want to kill freeman?
round we go again
I personally would find it hilarious if Shepherd was found in Episode 3, only to be killed seconds after seeing him.
As for Episode 3 taking after Halo 2… get out. Now.
Halo 2 has pretty unanimously one of the shittiest stories ever. It’s the worst one out of the “trilogy” that wasn’t really a trilogy.
Something I also want to add about having him in a mod that takes place during the 7 hour war… If you take longer than 7 hours… Won’t it effect the HL series?
If he popped up anywhere in the 3rd Episode then he needs to at least stay alive a bit longer… Because if you think about it… Why make another model just to kill it almost instantly? Also wouldn’t you think he’d forget about wanting to kill freeman and just fucking try and kill the combine? If he somehow manages to kills freeman he doomed everyone, right?
At lastly… To me at least… I think Gman would care less about him…
Well that’s just me =P.
For the same reason that some devs make models for easter eggs when there’s a chance that 95% of the people who play the game will never see it.
Whoa, take it easy man, I was only fooling around.
And yeah sorry about the double post, but I was sooo excited when I thought of the witty retort “shitty leaves” that I just had to post it straight away.
And for the record, I most definitely do NOT think that HLep3 should be anything like halo2, personally I really enjoyed playing halo1, and that’s where it ended. I did play Halo2 but lets face it, the gameplay mechanic of having 2 protagonists really detracted from the already ropey storyline. – in short halo2 is a bit of a steamer.
As for Halo3, I thought it wasn’t bad for a console FPS. I most definitely do not think HLep3 should take anything from the plotline from this either, and agree that the combine should not side with the rebels. That WOULD be ridiculous.
Anyway, back on topic.
Really think it should be a 7 hour war saga, admittedly the game could only be 7 hours long, but then to be fair there was a lot of unresolved bits in xen (“under our control for the time being”) that Sheppard could be involved in before the war starts, he could be the one who enables Breen to negotiate the surrender of earth rather than the combine just completely consume it (the lesser of 2 evils), hey he could even be one of the 2 combine elites that escort freeman in to breens office.
Or even, he could be a special agent for the gman, helping Gordon behind the scenes in hl2 & ep1 & ep2. Similar to how Op4 works, where they only actually encounter each other once, but cause a temporal paradox. So Sheppard is teleported in in various parts of the games to help Gordon.
My English is weak but when I was reading your posts I was in shock.
Tell me. Why Shepard shouldn’t be in Ep3?
I don’t know why some of you think he don’t have any personality?
Tell me what personality have Gordon in HL1?
How any of you can even say about personality if Freeman, Shepard and Calhoun in 1st Half-Life and addons don’t say anything.
Face of character don’t give this character any personality.
Then where you can see they fu**** personality?
You see it in killing aliens, humans or walking or pushing buttons?
Or argument like “Because I don’t like him”. Horrible!
Whatever…
I think Shepard can bring to Ep3 something new.
1)He can be send by G-Man to kill/stop/slowdown Gordon.
Why? In my(let say) “theory” Freeman get out of G-Man unlimited control when vortigaunts take Alyx and Gordon out of citadel at begin of Ep1.
Where G-Man said “We’ll see about that”.
And in Ep2 he gave Alyx massage for her father “Prepare for unforeseen consequences”. For me that looks like he can’t do anything with Gordon but he can do probably everything “around” him.
And that looks like revenge or G-Man challenge Gordon and Shepard can be part of this.
2)Adrian can be send to help Gordon maybe he will save Alyx from hunter or any other help.
3)Or G-Man send him to see his reaction when he will see Gordon on Arctic
If I don’t/wrong understand something sorry for that.
If I offend somebody then sorry that wasn’t in my intentions.
And I hope all of you will understand what I write. My English is weak.
You’re totally missing the point.
Barney, Eli and Kleiner are all based on NPCs from HL1, who had some personality, and therefore were good choices for unique NPCs.
Freeman doesn’t have any personality because the player is supposed to be him, and therefore would be a bad choice for a unique NPC.
Shepard doesn’t have any personality because the player is supposed to be him, and therefore would be a bad choice for a unique NPC.
All clear now? :meh:
^perfect.
Another good point.
Yah… Why would Gman go out of his way to keep Gordan Alive in various parts to have Adrian go out and kill him. Also I think you have things a little confused on what is going on in HL2 + EP1&2…
No, it makes some scents; who knows maybe he is in charge of a betting ring to see Gordon vs. Adrian
He should lay off the chilli then.
Thanks burbinator!
Also add the fact that the Gearbox expansions was just made to showcase the HL engine. They are not canon, and they reused Half-Life assets because it was easier. They are to be interpreted as stand-alone games for all intents and purposes.
With the logic many people here uses, you could say that all HL mods have something to do with Half-Life and are to be considered canon because they reuse HL assets. It’s just bullshit.
I really hate the constant nagging about combining the story lines of OP4, BS and HL.
On the other hand I have nothing against a sequel to OP4 and or BS if it gives anything of value, although that is unlikely as the story lines in these two games are really thin. And you would have to retcon a lot. If you just want more maps where you can kill stuff as Adrian Shepherd I’m sure there are mods for that already.
It would appear that there is a certain amount of ambiguity as to whether or not Op4 and BS are actually canon, or more to the point which parts are cannon and which ones are not!
For example a nuclear blast was confirmed to have destroyed black mesa (the place not the upcoming mod :fffuuu: ), which was part of the Op4 plotline. There is also the inclusion of Barney in HL2, admittedly he could be one of the generic security guards in black mesa, but it is suggestive that he is Barney Calhoun. i.e. “you left this in black mesa”, Barney from BS could realistically have been the only person who could have retrieved the crowbar after the hecu took it from Gordon (hardly conclusive, but there are a number of other nods throughout the games that also suggest this).
Like it or not, Valve gave gearbox the rights to make 2 games set in that universe. To me that gives them some sort of obligation to tie up at least some of the loose ends. Even if it just means killing off the characters.
Ok, so with my first post on this board I’m quickly going to give my 2 cents here.
Yes, I think it would be more interesting to add Shephard to the Half-life story again, it adds more aspects to the story and offers more possibilities for the game to head out and perhaps, but just perhaps, capture the unique atmosphere the first HL games had, only with the better graphics and engine then
But NO, I don’t think think he should be directly involved in the storyline Freeman is in at this point. The story has developed so much, that introdcing him here would be absolutely pointless. Basically, Gordon and Shephard are the same, no-face, no voice, no personality, so they ought to be playable characters. A spin-off game would work best here, introducing it with some references to him in the newest episode of HL2 (finding his dogtags, gasmask or anything like that, maybe have Gordon returning to where Black Mesa used to be before leaving for Borealis and encounter something/ someone there referring to Shephard). Then Shephard can have his own storyline, same problem, different area. Like the fact that the resonance cascade also allowed Race X to get to earth, same problem, different outcome. By surprise, let the G-man have saved some of the US Marines of Black Mesa, who had “skills” as well, and you have pretty much a crew. Let them handle the Race X problem, since it was his biggest concern in HL Opfor anyway. THere’s no trace of Race X anymore in HL 2, so I think letting him take care of that would be a good idea, if Gearbox didn’t decide to be selfish and keep all the rights to themselves that is…
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
