HL2 Ep3 plot speculation thread (NO SILLY THEORIES)

I bet at the end Barney buys you a beer.

I bet barney comes to white forest and buys you a beer in the beginning, then you fly the helicopter and crash it and everybody dies.

I think EP3 will continue a bit after EP2 left off. I don’t know if the helicopter thing will work: how would you map out a liftoff with an extremely large portion of the world visible from above? Anyway, if it’s just trees, it might work. Alyx would fly it though, not Gordon, to make sure you don’t just fly around to areas that don’t even exist.

… Or maybe the helicopter won’t work or something so you’ll have to find another way.

If the helicopter does fly, I’m sure it’ll crash or run out of fuel pretty soon and you’ll have to make it on foot or something. Nothing is ever so simple in HL.

I think we’ll know much more about the Borealis as there would be no point in them talking so much about it. You will probably end up destroying it or not, but you’ll be involved with the ship. Maybe Alyx will want to do what his father said, so I’m thinking you’ll have to destroy it.

I doubt you’d use the portal gun: that’s another game, and Portal is a puzzle game not an action shooter, the two wouldn’t mix. Unless you only have it for a short time and only get to use it in a limited space, maybe like the super gravity gun at the end of HL2 and the start of EP1. Then you’ll have to euthanize it or something.

There has to be some giant fight against the combine and the advisers, as we got to see them more and more throughout the course of EP1 and EP2, teasing towards an eventual encounter. However, I’m not sure if you’ll actually fight a live advisor, as they seem to be able to do anything they want, Gordon would have no chance against them. Maybe you’ll come across a place with advisor pods in the Borealis, and you’ll destroy the ship, killing the unhatched advisors.

I’m guessing the final “boss fight” in EP3 will be destroying the borealis, just like the final fight in EP2 was closing the citadel portal (although that just meant killing a dozen striders).

I’m hoping for a few new things but I’m not counting on new enemies. The hunter was new in EP2, that’s probably enough for now. Maybe you’ll get some new weapons, if not just the Portal gun, or maybe nothing.

Possibly G-man will take more direct action and send his second best “operative”: Adrian Shephard (He is only second to Gordon of course).
Also,it’s higly possible that Barney joins in or maybe he will stay to commandeer resistance.
New weapon may be the black hole granade specially for advisors.Hydra may come back.As combine assasins. We also hadn’t a chance to fight Crab synths and Mortar synths.
And votigaunts or even G-man may shield Gordon from advisors’ telekinesis (but may render him unable to fight with his firearms (imagine: charging on an advisor with a crowbar in the last fight !awesome!!! :awesome: )).
But knowing Valve makes me think that final result will be more awsome!!!

There seems to be a massive thing about Adrian Shephard coming back. I must admit i haven’t played HL: OP, (but having borrowed it i will now!!) which might explain why i have no idea why people are so excited to see him back.
Then i saw another thing about Barney (who didn’t make it in Eps2) trying too to make it in HL3 (i believe it was confirmed it wasn’t going to be Epi3 but HL3).
And then it kinda struck me…
Valve have been saying they were going to stop creating SP only and go for a SP+ model of games (this was the case for Portal 2, which was led i believe by the L4D(2) success).
And if you add up there is, Gordon (for the SP), and then Alyx, and then Barney, and then Adrian.
4 in total. makes a good 4 man (and woman) team.
This is massively speculated and will not go as the last retail product.
And yes, first i agree and think its wrong. Gordon is meant to “ride alone”. A 4 player campaign would mean a minimum of interaction from him as a playable character, like in L4D, which would mess up the image of the MIT in Buttkicking scientist.

For anyone thinking of the new weapons, i’ve been looking at the CombineOver Wiki, and there are a lot of cut-out ideas which were leaked in 2003, prior to the launch.
A few enemies might turn up form there; the combine guards or the ones found in the E3 video, but weren’t in the retail due to problems with physics (the blue tentacle-like creature).

Several things I want to tell you:
1.Watch Shephard’s mind,it will make you love him (as it did with me)(Also,he is one of the best fighterS there are, only second to Gordon).
2.Half-Life will never have L4D kind of coop, but possibly a small part there this 4 are together.
3.Blue tentacle-like creature is called Hydra and its creator promissed that it will show up in Half-Life universe.
4.Assasins and Combine guards may appear too. Also,Crab synth and Mortar synth haven’t been encountered in gameplay,so we might fight them too.
5.Black hole grenade might appear and cut HMG may be added.

Would it be half-life if things weren’t constantly breaking or going wrong?

In all likelihood, the borealis will probably house something like a time machine, forcing her to choose between Eli’s dying wish of destroying the ship & the possibility of saving him. Then you will end up doing whatever it is you do.

That would just be an annoying cock-tease to anyone anticipating it & confusing to anyone who doesn’t know what the portal gun is or how to use it.

Audio commentary in Episode 2 & unused code in Alien Swarm pretty much confirm that you will get to fight them directly.

You can expect the Advisors at the very least.

No portal gun.

No. Just no.

I’m having a hard time picturing them in thigh-high white latex boots.

And you never will. :frowning:

That sounds absolutely terrible. Why would you ever even think of that?

Wrong. No such confirmation has ever been made.

This is basically Gabe flubbing up his speech. He tries to clarify in this interview, but I don’t think that’s what he meant.

The hydra (the blue tentacle-like creature) was cut due to the difficulty programming the AI, but it was also cut due to not being any fun to fight. The same goes for the combine guard which was also made redundant by the strider.

It didn’t for me.

See… when people ‘correct’ me like this… i feel like a troll.
Whilst my intentions were to be diplomatic and give a speculation based on stuff people had said previously.
About the Episode3 thing, i remember seeing a story not too long about about a guy who had leaked the info, Valve said to take it as one of their myths, but the guy who wrote that was kicked/Banned form the steam forum.
So i can understand no actual statement was made, but that’s kinda saying something. he wouldn’t have been kicked if the info he’d given out was “out of the blue”.
But yes, you are correct, there is still no way of saying.

RETURN OF THE BULLSQUID!

Very good theory. It can survive in any enviroment,so it won’t have any problems surviving arctic weather.

The Borealis is a Red Herring, it was stripped for spare parts years ago.

I think an implosion grenade could be pretty cool. Throw it in between a few Combine soldiers and watch them all run into each other in the center :awesome: .

That about advisors? (PRICELESS!!!)

That does actually sound pretty funny.

It’s cool, you didn’t know. I usually assume people here are either uninformed or just lying to themselves because it’s what they’d like to hear.

That’s not a theory, theories have either some evidence or logical explanations to back them up. Besides, Valve had a perfectly good opportunity to use them in the tunnels in EP2. If they didn’t use them there, I doubt they’d ever bring them back.

If you guys want beta weapons/npc just download missing information 1.6

You wake up under a bridge, with some mysterious bottles of smirnoff next to you along with some dead hobos and chickens.

I read the suggestion skybox, but I too is unsure if it will work.

That sounds pretty Half-Life to me. I think that you’ll walk a bit, find a hidden lab of Kleiner’s or something, and teleport closer to the borealis.
[/QUOTE]

I think that you’ll get to choose between using it as Kleiner wanted you to, or destroy it as Eli wanted you ro. Most of us will probably destroy it.

I’ve had the idea of geting an older verision of the portalgun, such as the ones showed on a picture in the Cave Johnson test lab (the ones with asbestos). And that you’ll have to charge it at a sertain station, so that you’ll only be able to use it at certain points of the game. But I too think that it’s most unlikely to use a portal gun in ep 3/ Half-Life 3. We might see a rusty non-working one in a room, or a rusty turret or something like that.

Since the borealis came from aperture, storing aperture’s technology, I don’t think that it’ll have advisors in them. It wouldn’t make any sense.

The closing of the combine portal did more then killing striders. It stopped more combines to enter our planet. It prevented another seven hour war.

I am certainly hoping for new weapons, I would be turned down if there were none when the game actually comes out, wich it probably will eventually. You can’t just finish off a game with an ending like in episode 2.

My personal theories, based on some other idéas in this thread (such as the running towards an advisor with a crowbar), is that gordon will die, either to rescue everyone, or to fail. I heard somwhere that Half-Life 2 ep. 3 woulöd be the final game involving Gordon Freeman. And there is a painting on the wall in the singing turret ruum in Portal 2 by rattman with a pile of dead bodies. There is an orange head in the middle of it, which my eyes were automaticly drawn to when I saw it that looked like Gordon Freeman. So I supose that Portal 2 is set after ep. 3/HL3 and that Gordon dies in the Borealis, either from the explosion or by an advisor fight. How I imagine the final advisor battle:
You have been knocked down on the floor when the advisor picked you up, and DOG came to the rescue. The advisor kills DOG, you see your crowbar in front of you as you lay on the groiund. You pick it up and you see Gordon running towards the advisor, and then the game ends with the classic black screen with the white simple text: Half-Life 3.

My personal theory is that it’s a work of fiction and that not even the creators of said work know how it’s going to end yet.

I think he means that their pods crash into it, like the pod in the barn in Episode 2.

oh, well that makes better sence then. Then you’ll need new weapons to fight off the advisors guarding the borealis. I’m not sure if an RPG will work on them.
