Half Life Movie

yey, im glad someone shares my point !

Hey, SOME Janime is good… It’s just that the whole thing is oversaturated inso much SHIT, it’s hard to find any gems…

GITS and Akira are an axample of the artform done right.

Pretty much all the stuff that’s popular in the US is done wrong. Yes, this means Bleach and naruto.

BTW: About earlier, I meant to say SOME Brits would be alright, but not all. Also, if the actor’s worth his weight, he can fake a flawless american accent. Otherwise he wouldn’t be…you know…an actor…

I will agree to this. Orlando Bloom managed to pull off a convincing Ranger in Black Hawk Down.

Ha, Orlando Bloom being one of the worst actors in history, that’s quite a compliment. The only role that I’ve seen him succeed in was Lord of the Rings, and that was only because he spoke rarely and they were one line long. I think I actually cheered when he fell out of the helicopter and it forced him out of the film.

As for this terrible Half-Life film, I can’t imagine that they would make it in the hope of it being taken seriously. I haven’t seen it, but it could be like Ninja Terminator or the remake of the Wicker Man and be an accidental comedy.

It could be done. I have a few ideas on its execution. It’d just be unlikely for the fat ass cats to come to the same conclusion as I.

Worst game movies ever were Doom and Max Payne. I was utterly disappointed with Doom the whole fps part was really stupid. And in Max Payne that whole get shot in the face and fly through ten feet of brick wall was the most unrealistic thing about it. But I think Half-life could possibly be a good movie if it was about lets say the Opposing Force soldier because we don’t know what happened to him after the last seen in the game but Gman says he might come in use later, but still i could see Hollywood screwing it right up. Oh and we do know what happened to Barney because of Blue Shift.

LOL!

Nm.

Let’s say that, in some alternate universe; where Hollywood is awesome with adaptation movies. This skill therefore allows them to find the perfect actor who encapsulates mostly everyone’s expectations on what Gordon would be like if he had a personality and could actually speak (eg.
excelling physicist with closeted authority who likes to play with grenade launching smg’s in his spare time) and manages to create an Oscar-winning superstar of a movie.

If all this was right I think there should be something that must be a part of the cinematography department; if anyone has seen Children of Men, the film style should be like that where there are scenes on average of close to 6 minutes where there is no cutting, giving a very real-time feel. That’s my only thought :stuck_out_tongue:

Why is a Half-Life movie and Hollywood still even mentioned in the same breath? Newell said it would not happen. All Hollywood is concerned about is making a quick buck off of gamers and exploit a tax loophole in germany. He said that it’s an insult what they offer. He said either a good movie get’s made that does the title honor, or it does not. That Valve, the makers of Half-Life will be behind it the whole way if it gets made, Not Hollywood.

On another note.

I think that It’s more likely now (but in no way guaranted) that a Half-Life movie will get made. Valve seems to be continuing development on “Meet the …” TF2 Shorts which Newell said was their attempts to convert a game into a linear narrative (aka TV show, Movies, Shorts). They are getting longer and more interesting. On top of that Newell said that the dev’s are going to create TF2 comics created by the developers themselves. A new media for Valve. I think It’s one more piece to a puzzle that is beginning to take shape with a recent interview of Newell in which he said,

While I know that Newell’s response was directly related to TF2, he expanded comment out to include L4D, and one can safely assume that HL is also under consideration for such things. More importantly however, it shows how he is expanding Valve’s horizons and how he is getting more interested in doing more “cross-media” projects. He wants to make Valve more of an entertainment company than just a game developer.

Do I think this may lead to a Live action HL movie? Well, while I think it is still WAY to early to definitively say whether or not a HL movie will even get made. I doubt that if one is made that it will be a Live action movie. Newell does not trust Hollywood, and rightly so. I do not think that Valve has all the resources to pull off a full scale, Live action movie by themselves. I think that it is more likely that they will stick with their strengths in animation if they do indeed make a movie.

True

Oh my god…

at mod’s post:Bingo.

Fong palm?

I think we’ve all learned our lesson about this from max payne…shudder

In my point of view, i wouldn’t care if the movie had bad acting, the only thing that would matter to me would be the accuracy of the story, and the environment. I just think it would be so cool to say “Oh man i remember going there in the game!” while watching the movie, or recalling how a scientist said something in the game, the Hitman movie, for example, was pretty cool to me, it had the distracting people with a coin thing, and it had many of the same weapons like the Silverballers. All we need is a good director who is a big fan of the game (Xavier Gens did the Hitman movie).

Max Payne = Hollywood botch job by a director who cared nothing about the game. Director just wanted to make a quick buck as did the individuals who held the rights to make the movie.

Half-Life, according to the individual holding the rights to make the movie, will not be butchered by Hollywood if it gets made at all.

Now what lesson have we learned today?

That there is a tax loophole in germany :fffuuu:

But that’s the thing; how could you make a GOOD half-life movie? the protagonist is silent, there isn’t a very complex plot, it will almost definably be boring for the first two reasons and half-life is good AS A GAME…to me, anyway.

The thing is…

IF a Half-Life movie were made, it would probably be made to embrace the different medium. The GAMES are made for GAMERS, but MOVIES are made for VIEWERS. Its (most of the time) a completely different audience. VALVe understands that.

I honestly think if Half-Life were made into a TV series that it could be pulled off. Gordon doesn’t have to talk, and even if he does I wouldn’t flip a bitch about it and shout MUTINY and throw things at my TV. I would just enjoy it understanding that it was changed to fit the new medium. Don’t change the story or atmosphere like most video games try to, thats stupid. Most video games already have plots that wouldn’t translate well to a screenplay AT ALL, and video game movie developers and their “improvements” to the plot only make things worse.

Half-Life has the perfect plot for TV. Mainly because IT BARELY HAS ONE. Get to the Lambda Sector. Thats the plot of the game. Survival is what takes place in between. Its plot is perfect for TV because its got so many sections of just running and gunning. Its even in the slogan for the damn game. The plot is perfect because it can be elaborated upon without tarnishing the game everyone loved/loves.

As an example, would you hate it if they gave Gordon a companion for one chapter? Not a crappy comedic character, just anther survivor who tags along and is then killed off. would you hate that enough to say it ruined the games plot?

I wouldn’t care as long as its made well. I think a movie would never work for Half-Life, but a TV series would definitely be better. Its not because the “plot” is so huge, but because most gamers just want to see the world of Half-Life captured the way it should be, and only a TV series would allow a large enough scope and timeframe for Half-Life. the game is 12 chapters, about 10 hours to complete the game. If each episode is about an hour in length, and encompassed one chapter of the game per episode, that would allow plenty of time for the game to be explored thoroughly enough to make a decent Half-Life adaption.

But thats just my opinion, and its pretty scattered in this post. Sorry if this was a bit of a rant, I just cant explain it thoroughly enough in a few sentences. Just like Half-Life.

Thats why it wouldn’t make a good movie. Half-Life cannot be summarized, but due to the runtime constraints of a movie (2-3 hours max) it would have to be. It has to be accurately portrayed frame by frame or the fans would want to rape the people responsible for it.If a Half-Life movie were made it wuld be 8-10 hours in length. That wouldn’t be possible. If it were a TV series it would be fine with an 8-10 hour story.
