Half Life Movie

If a Half-Life movie was created, the cast would be hard to choose. MAYBE, just MAYBE, Megan Foxx could play Alyx Vance. And as for Gordon, a look-alike could play him and Ross Scott could read off the lines while the actor lip-sinks it. Jack Nicleson should play Father Gregori.

You lost me right…

…there.

No.

Neither Alyx nor Grigori were in Half-life. :fffuuu:

Also, while Gordon should not speak, there’s nothing saying he doesn’t mouth things. I’d imagine he’d mouth “Oh, shit!” when faced with a squad of soliders.

But I’d rather see a movie based on Blue shift, or something similar. Gordon either making a cameo on a security monitor, or not being in it. Issac and Eli’s adventures, on escaping, maybe? I’d like to see how they got out with Kliener’s injury and the trams out.

Kleiners injury? you mean eli’s.

Eli’s not injured in HL1, Kliener is. 'Cause Eli and Kleiner were the guys that saw the one computer blow up before the Resonance Cascade.

Yeah.
“I’m afraid to move him! (Kliener)”
He probably got some glass stuck in his gut or something.

And Eli’s not really injured in HL2, I think that the prosthetic was when they first moved to city 17, so he’s had time to get used to it.

I think I know what they should do with the movie, follow the life and story of 6 people who work at black mesa, then at some point or another their lives would connect. A bit like the movie “crash”.

I think it would work best as a comedy…bit strange that.

AFAIK, Kleiner is NOT the man seen with Eli in HL1. Find me proof that that’s Kleiner.

There ya go. He may not always be Kleiner in HL1, but he is in Black Mesa.

Freeman is to much of a badass, to be featured in a movie, 'nuff said. :freeman:

  • But i did enjoy the Escape from City 17 film, and wouldn’t mind a sequel(!!), or other people havin’ a try at creating something of a similar style, and story(random POV’s of the HL-univers).

I think that one aspect of my consensus about a HL2* film is that, characters aside, I’d love to see the set designs, location, architecture, weapons, creatures and Synths in the film in the same form. I think everyone is getting really hung up about the characters, which actors should play whom, should Freeman be in it, should he talk etc. It’s so easy to forget how awesome HL2 really is, and how incredibly easily it would transfer over to film whilst still retaining the same feel.

  • I’m only talking about a HL2 film in this case, rather than HL.

This is partly why I adamently believe that Freeman shouldn’t be in the film. I just feel that, if people are getting this annoyed and frustrated at having a discussion about whether his character should be in the film, then imagine how disastrous it would be if he was in the film but, for whatever reason, you did it wrong.

I just feel that the whole concept of Freeman’s character detracts and distracts from the incredible scenery and design of HL2. The detail of the surroundings in the world of HL2 was the main character. If you look at any screenshot of HL2, you would typically be able to pick out two or three points that hint at the underlying story. Sometimes you’d get ten or eleven. As long as you preserve that in the film, then you already have your main character, as well as all the underlying plots that create the mystery and intrigue that is so essential.

Marc Laidlaw said it should have been Kliener, and that if he could make Half-Life again he would have made sure that the two characters there were Kliener and Eli.

a tv series would be better i can just see it happening!

“Previously on Half Life The chronicals of Gordon Freeman” Gordon is trying to burn the gorks but he need’s oxy, Shephard has just been saved by g-man.

“In the next episode” Gordon is in statis.

I disagree. Yes, there are a lot of shitty ass game-inspired movies out there, but some games have real movie potential. Warcraft for example could make a truly great movie.

People have probably already said this so if they had I’m jst agreeing with them. If a Half Life movie were made it wouldn’t be focused around Gordon, because we all know Gordon shouldn’t talk. It’s like with the route they’re taking for the Halo movie. They’re placing the movie at a time in the story when the main character isn’t involved, so that people focus more on the story of the film rather than the game. If there is a film it’ll b about something such as the 7 hour war where a lot of potential drama and storylines could come into place. A movie about the black mesa incident could be done, but if it were it wouldn’t b wise to have Gordon in it. That would just ruin it.

GAMES =/= MOVIES
Besides, you could probably miss something that was seen ingame, or maybe the actors would take a different action from what you’d like them to do (everyone would want something somewhat unique). And the monsters/aliens could look freaking scary like in the Mario movie.

It was once said that it is impossible for people to fly. After enough failed attempts, different approaches, and different designs, people begin to learn what works and what does not. In order for it to work, the plot has to be something that can be faithfully converted, and a director who has taken notes on what works and what does not and attempts to faithfully recreate the world of the game. It can be done. The problem with Hollywood is that their directors think its just a stupid game and try to recreate it in their own image. This happens mostly by just making something entirely new and slapping the game’s title on it just to get paid. Before the current Spiderman and Batman movies, I thought it was next to impossible to make a serious conversion from comic book to film. But it worked, and it pleased a lot of the fans, and made some new ones. Before The Lord of the Rings trilogy, many people including Tolkien himself thought it would be impossible to convert such a daring and intricate plot into a movie. But it was done and it was a box office hit.

The fact is that so many gamers have been burned by these hack directors that many of you think it is impossible to translate a game to a film. If it has a good story, it can be done. In the context of a HL movie, Gamers should not fear these hack-job directors in hollywood, because Newell has already received numerous offers from Hollywood, and as soon as he saw where they wanted to go with it, he told them to shove it. Marc Laidlaw said himself that although in the first HL gordon was merely a conduit for interaction btw the gamer and the HL world , and thus has no character, if VALVe was behind it, even though it would be difficult, it would be entirely possible to create a character for Gordon that would work for HL. Newell has already said that he will not let his title get ruined, that if a good HL movie can’t be made, then it won’t, and that if one is made then Valve will be behind it the entire way.

Now now the idea that Gordon has to have a silent role in the movie, just because he was silent in the game, is laughable. That is like saying that because Batman looked like this:

in the comic, then he has to look like this in the movie:

instead of this:

There will be necessary changes between the Game and the movie. You just have to make sure those changes don’t go too far and ruin it.

Pretty sure the ugly batman was because of low budget :stuck_out_tongue:
