It’s the little things that would make you feel like you’re actually watching a HL movie, and it’s even littler things that would make you go - why? Why have him reading the newspaper? He has to be sitting by himself, just gazing out into the bowels of Black Mesa because he’s curious and such. And if he’s late, he wouldn’t have his mind in a newspaper.
PS - any shmuck can grow a beard/goatee and put on a pair of glasses does not mean they look like a perfect Gordon Freeman. Bruce Willis would be my vote though.
Point, but if you’re going to show him in the first few minutes, he has to be doing something other than gazing out on Black Mesa as it goes by. I’m thinking just establishing shots (the missile, the helicopter, the spiderbot), then a close up of his eyes, then a close up of his badge. But that’s all you see. Then he arrives at the catwalk with the Barneyguard (let’s call him Stewie). Then you see Gordon as he steps out of the tram.
But, sure, any schmuck can grow a goatee and put on a pair of glasses (I have a goatee but no glasses; I’m a half-schmuck?), but, c’mon! It’s Ross Scott! He’s Gordon Freeman! Or, at least, the voice in Freeman’s head.
I was watching the interview with Gabe Newell on GT, and there was talk of TF2 branching out into other media. Now, while the HL series was not mentioned at all, really, this is something very concrete in terms of movie production and Valve. Perhaps some more could be done to create a suggestion to Valve, from fans who appreciate the universe. Remember, the competition is the sort of person who wants to send in mounted cavalry just so they can show a scene of a bullsquid eating a horse.
Well I think the only way it could work would be to use the pull back and reveal concept to the story line. Freeman believes the project he’s working on has never been done before and the first of it’s kind and blames himself for what occurs in the test chamber. As he goes through areas of Black Mesa he’s never seen before he starts to understand that it’s actually much deeper and sinister how much is going within Black Mesa (Mesa is spanish for table by the way). He has nowhere to turn as the soldiers are gunning down his peers and he cannot escape to the surface. The only choice he has is to fight onwards till the G-Man puts him into stasis. One way or the other, he is a trapped pawn of the government. Man vs The Unknown, Man Vs Authority. Man Betrayed by Father Figure. We could have Wallace Breen be a kind old mentor helping to guide him through and having him launch the rocket.
The sequel would be HL2 where he’s given explanation to some of the experiments he saw going on and how the resonance cascade wasnt his fault and how in reality Breen betrayed him.
The Reason he doesnt speak? Got laryngitis that day. I dont know, I think it could work, what do you guys think?
Possibly, but it would tie Breen deeper into the anger and betrayal that Freeman’s group possess for him later in HL2. They should make every member of the team a character with personalities that would carry over the story. like 15 members in the team and we watch some of them get taken out, some cowering in fear, stopping Freeman from moving on, some with their jealous petty hatred of his position in their group (IE Mossman), just every human foil we have expressed in these 15 members. Breen is the man they look up to and respect as he is the one who brought them all together for this project. But HL should not show any examples of his betrayal until probably the end. Kinda like Luke I am your father type deal, a nice twist for the audience. We can also have different scientists (wearing different badges) within each new section that Freeman never had clearance for before arguing with him over giving him access to the next room, that kind of thing. It could work.
While it would make for a fairly decent movie, I think that would be a big step backwards as far as keeping true to the storyline. While saying his name and identifying him as the administrator wouldn’t go too far, let’s remember that he had no actual participation in the story at that time.
Also, having such a large number of people in the main cast would do nothing but confuse the audience. Plus, having all the main characters from HL2 that we can in the first movie allows the viewer to gain a fondness for them prior to the events in HL2.
Finally, there really is no need to make Gordon silent. Out of all the “staying true” ideas presented, I wonder why such a small thing hangs up the rest of the discussion. While he’s established as being quiet, there’s no reason he can’t say anything.
I think the game is detailed and realistic to the point where a movie couldn’t really add anything. Just plug your computer into the TV. Your grandma will never know
But what would that add to the story except for an irrelevant, distracting waste of time? To emphasize that Gordon is a silent character, or just to throw in random science blather simply for the sake of it. And if the tram announcements were playing, it would sound even more annoying. You can’t trade the announcements off for something that would basically be pointless.
Seems like the only reason to want to have them would just be to avoid having a chunk of the movie without people talking/interacting. Sounds like bad screenplay to me.
The ideal cast would consist of unknowns for me, but if I could live the dream for a while here’s my star-studded Half-Life movie cast:
Ed Norton as Gordon (He proved he can play a more or less silent, pensive role in The Incredible Hulk. That movie had barely any dialogue in it. Hes perfect!) Hugh Laurie as G-Man (NOT AS GORDON. HE IS GMAN. YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE.) Dennis Hopper as Breen (I’m willing to forgive him for The Super Mario Bros. Movie ) Rosario Dawson as Alyx (She’s got the face and the tits down.) Bill Cobbs as Eli (C’mon, he looks and sounds just like him, and he’s pretty good at playing the “fatherly” type roles) John Cuzsack as Barney (He’s perfect for comedic relief and he can handle action) Dan Butler as Dr. Kleiner (I’ve never play a character like Kleiner before but he was funny in Frasier and has the voice and face.) Michelle Forbes as Dr. Mossman (The chick who did the voice and mocap for Mossman. Shes PERFECT! ) Jean Reno as Fr. Grigori (Looks the part, and I’m willing to forgive him for Godzilla. And Pink Panther. And Pink Panther 2.) Jim Broadbent as Cnl. Cubbage (The best example of how awesome he would be as Cubbage is his performance as Slughorn in Harry Potter 6)
lol whats odd is my fan teaser/music video is in the related videos section. What a coincidence! I’ve seen Newspaper before, but had no idea you made it. I love it personally, the voice acting is very fluid and real-sounding.
Yes, let’s take the worst actor from a movie that took one of the greatest games of all time and completely ruined it, where he played the main villain, and cast him as Breen in the Half-Life movie. That’s a great idea .
