You know what, i’m sure Valve are smart enough, and they won’t just randomally cut the HL2 plot without ending, and they know how much time has passed… there’s nothing we can predict 100% but i know one thing for sure:
it doesn’t matter HOW IT IS CALLED, it can be called Episdoe 3, it can be called Half Life 3…
Dammit, it can be called HALF LIEF: GORDAN STRIKEZ BACK!!1!
i just don’t think anyone should give a rats ass about this…
I’m just wondering if 3 hours would be enough to close the arc prior to Ep3. Maybe just a level on the Borealis with Gman wisping you away again at the end?
I’m flattered, but I’m pretty sure if they did, that post would make everyone want to vote me down (don’t ask why, that’s just how the internet works). But thanks anyway.
I don’t think they would give it out for free. While Valve as given out fantastic deals for downloadable content especially if you play games such as Team Fortress 2, they’re main goal in the end is still to make money. While they recognize different strategies from most mainstream gaming companies (such as releasing their product code for mods), in the end they need to make profit like any other gaming company.
It just isn’t as important to them as it is to other larger companies such as Activism and EA who don’t take large financial risks and instead just buy smaller companies and squeeze all the money out.
[Wow, that was a long pointless rant…]
But nonetheless, Valve won’t just give a game like this away for free. Sure they may have given Alien Swarm out for free, but that’s because it was a mod originally. But I could be wrong. Valve has surprised the gaming world before, they could do it again. With an independent gaming Corporation like Valve, anything is possible.
Edit: Also, DrGonzo, I’m loving the name. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is both one of my favorite movies and books.
…no, there is too much. Let me sum up: I think what everyone here is trying to say is that the name of the next Half Life game does not matter, so long as it picks up where Episode 2 left off and is a full length game.
Perhaps some may want to ignore the story thus far, but I haven’t seen evidence of that in this thread.
There are people who wanted the HL1 story arc to continue in HL2, but it was never planned to happen. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Valve is not unprepared for the future, and they don’t usually change their secret plans because a game takes too long to release.
Exactly, while they could still do Gman plucking you out before you go to the Borealis, I’m not sure Valve would do that. We’ve been waiting for years to go there.
I think he meant that it would start again very soon after HL1, as opposed to 20 years later. Which would mean fighting in the 7 hour war and such, I’m guessing.
But doing so might limit Valve, you would have to see more direct repurcussions from the Resonance Cascade, it would also leave less speculation. Valve loves creating speculation.
Call me crazy but, didn’t Valve confirm that the Half-Life storyline was going to finish with EP: 3? I kind of understand them, they’ve spent about 15 years on the Half Life franchise and I’m pretty sure they’re eager to move on and find something else to get successfull for.
Episode 3 will be the end of the current story arc (Combine rule of Earth) but they haven’t said that it would be the final adventure of Gordon Freeman.
And for a company that makes Half life Saga and it try’s to make it perfect, even if it takes years, i belive that they are allready working with something with Half life. If you take a look you see that valve only releses trailers and stuff like that when they all ready got a lot of work done in the project!
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
