Half-life 3? Not Episode 3?

It’s been too long since Ep2 so I guess It’ll be a new engine hence HL3.

A new engine makes no sense. When the new console generation comes out, there should be a Source Engine 2

I thought the whole point was with source, instead of coming out with new engines they’d just heavily modify the old one into a new one every time and just still call it source.

Half-Life 3 or Episode Three, who gives a shit.

That being said: holy fuck finally!!! Half-Life games are the only games that can get me little-kid excited, and ep3 is going to be fucking wild.

Also, they haven’t made a new engine, it’s just another improved Source engine.

Edit: I just realized this was a prediction and might not be true :frowning:

I think it was obvious that an “episode” would have been meaningless by this point; we need a HL3. A new engine, or at least a massive update for the Source is in order, certainly.

I wonder what HL3 has in store for us… and will it come out before or after Black Mesa?

Happy New Year, everyone!

Quick, we need a new thread! :rage:

I for one do! I don’t want them leaving the current story arc there and just having us magically appearing twenty years later or something. They’ve got to finish off the HL2 storyline first!

It’s not like they would abandon the storyline, it would just be a name change.

I don’t actually think that they’re going to call it Half-Life 3, seeing as they said the episodes are a trilogy, but if they chose to name the last episode Half-Life 3 instead of Episode Three, then why would anybody care if it was still the same game?

They said once, in 2008 or 2009 they don’t really like the episode-idea anymore.

It can’t be “episode 3”, since it would sound like a joke after all this time. On the other hand, who would care about the semantics, as long as it’s going to be good/satisfying addition to the Half life saga.

As for GameInformer’s prediction, it’s just that. But, here’s to hoping.

I think it’s quite likely that it’ll be announced, probably at e3.

But i don’t think anyone should expect to be playing it until late 2011/early 2012. ala Portal 2

Yes, now all hail for E3 2011!

at first i read addiction :stuck_out_tongue:

so bscly speculation in the form of an official article

how exciting

It’s speculation, so I’m not gonna get all worked up over it, but it HAS been almost 3.5 years since episode 2, so at least SOME news regarding the next HL installment might pop up. Again, Valve has said there would be some “surprises” within the next few months, so it’s likely. But then again they also said something similar for e3 and none of it was all too exciting. We’ll just have to wait and see…

If we are shown HL3 at this years expo that would be great; alongside ES:V and ME3 and a multitude of games released this year that I have eyes on this is gonna be one awesome year

GameInformer is a joke, I stopped paying attention to what they say when it comes to anything that has a minor form of interpretation. Now when they get info on a game that is strait facts I’m ok with that, but how can you fuck that up?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
