GameInformer predicts HL3 for 2011.

It’s more because, GI was right, that there will be no HL news in 2010 and revealed Portal 2 and DOTA 2, and Valve and GI are good friends.

Yeah, gameinformer has been getting a lot of info from Valve lately, more than any other magazine. I don’t know if they really know something we don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me considering the way they’ve been dropping HL3 hints.

Does anyone know when they usually release the next month’s issue? Even though I doubt the HL3 reveal will really be in there, I’m still looking forward to seeing Skyrim and whatever the other exclusives are in the Feb. issue.

Dunno, I’d just subscribe to their magazines 'til you get the mag then cancel it unless you want to keep paying every month.

Half-Life 3? But what about the episodes storyline?

Of course Half Life 3 would start where hl2 episode 2 ends

I hope HL3 comes out with insane graphics requirements, and lags like a bitch on my current computer, I want to get like 2 frames per second max, otherwise I’m disappointed in valve for releasing it too early.

They’re in the middle of a story-arch. They started it with the episodes & they’re going to finish it with the episodes. HL3 will be a whole new one.

maybe they’ll release all the episodes as one game and name it hl3, and give a discount to people who already have one or both of the episodes (and of course keep ep1/2 separate for people who haven’t bought hl3 yet)

or something

It’s called a name change after four years, not a hard concept to comprehend.

I too am baffled at the number of people who can’t comprehend the action of changing the name of a game X(.

As for what I have to say about the matter of what the game will include, I did at one point think that they would combine Episodes One and Two with what would originally have been Episode Three to make Half-Life 3. Now the problem with this is just because nobody would want to replay all of the first two episodes (which at times, for me at least, was a real bitch to play) just to get to the new content. And even if Valve gave discounts to those who already got it, there would probably be some sort of financial thing where they can’t take all of the price off the gamers think they deserve and we’d probably have to deal with something similar to the L4D2 boycotts.

Seeing as there have been comments made by Valve suggesting they’re not too hot about the Episodes idea, and the fact that we’ve been waiting four years for signs of the game (and it may 5-6 years by the time the game comes out), having it named Half-Life 3 would seem to be an appropriate name. Also there’s probably some marketing crap that goes along with it too.

As unlikely as all this seems, if they do release HL3 instead of ep3, I have no problem with that except that I want BM to be released before HL3 is officially announced, because even if they said that BM won’t be updated to another engine, if they do start updating the engine, they will release way later than anyone is expecting.

They won’t update it. Otherwise they would’ve updated it to the L4D and L4D2 steam engines.

No they said L4d didn’t offer enough of an improvement compared to HL2 vs OB engine, and an update to the l4d/l4d2 engine would probably change the requirements to play BM.

Wasnt there the whole licensing thing to worry about too with the L4D engines?

I hope they ship HL3 AND Ep. 3 together. It seems counter-intuitive, but it would be really nice to wrap up the HL2 story, then jump right into the next installment. I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen, but it would be nice.

So, if it IS half life 3, we might see the release of the final part of the Half Life series soon…

NO NOT HALF LIFE 3, JUST RELEASE EP3!!!

Oh god it also has iron sights :fffuuu:.

This year: Episode 3 released and hl3 at E3

hmm… hl3… if they are going to do another Half-Life instead of an episode they will surelly have modified the source engine enough. Also if it’s not going to be an episode it means that it WILL be a full game much more larger than ep1 and ep2. So for me this can only mean 1 thing: Glory.

I can’t comprehend how retarded you’d have to be to think that they’d even bother to rename it to begin with. This is some random guy who works at a game magazine talking out of his ass about shit he probably doesn’t remotely understand.

When watching Episodes of a tv show, one episode follows immediately after the next, with maybe a slight recap of the previous episode at the beginning. A full game however is like a movie. No movie I have ever seen has started part-way into a plot unless the events in it are portrayed out of chronological order. Sequels to movies ALWAYS explain everything established in the previous movie in order to understand the current one, bread-crumbed through out the movie.

Anybody who hasn’t played Half-Life up until this non-existent “Half-Life 3” would either have no idea what’s going on or the plot would need to be spread out far thinner than it currently needs to be & either way it would loose all of the impact that the story’s climax has been building up to.

Just because that’s YOUR problem doesn’t mean it’s a problem for everybody else. Until I hear from Doug Lombardi or Gabe Newell that EP1 & 2 sales were so bad that they’re skipping to HL3, you’re just going to be one winy gamer in a sea of thousands who give just as little a fuck about you as I do.
