No one will buy Windows 8, maybe middle aged people who are trying to be trendy but do not have a clue…
There’s even some deal where they’re tries to sell it for 15 bucks just to lure as much customers as possible.
I know it’s not a fashionable view around these parts but I’m really liking it. But then again, I’m actually using it and making a judgement, not just spouting out of my arse. But there you go.
For a start, it’s not a closed platform, Steam will not run through it or have to pay MS a percentage of profits. It will still work the same.
The other complaint seems to be the start screen. But it’s still exactly the same, I press the windows button on my keyboard, or click in the bottom left and I get the start screen. It’s just a screen now, not a bar. It actually seems to have much better functionality. You type what you want to search for and then you have various filters, you don’t even need to open programs to search within them. Very nifty.
The next big thing for me is the managing of multiple monitors. With the devices charm I can switch my set up about from my tv to my pc monitor easily without hassle. I often run into problems where I have to disable my monitor to get the game to display on the tv. This is now only two clicks away from being fixed.
As for the deal to ‘lure’ customers. It isn’t, it’s to prevent sales from dropping off. It means if you buy a laptop or a pc now you can upgrade for free/cheap depending when you bought it. It’s so that someone who really wants a new computer won’t hold off until the release of Windows 8 to buy.
I’m pretty sure I prefer a start bar over a screen. It’s way less obtrusive.
LOL
Agreed
Nowadays, I find that Microsoft spends alot of time trying to make their PC Operating Systems look all pretty, but not enough time making them functional. This OS looks great for tablets and phones, but FUCKING HORRENDOUS on a computer. Go back to basics is what I say. That’s why I love WinXP ^^
Personally I liked the start menu better on Windows NT 4.0 all the way up until Windows 2000. Then Whistler (or XP) always had this joke of an oversized start menu that went against the whole idea of a consistent UI free of clutter. And in 7 they quietly removed the ability to drag toolbars out of the start menu or taskbar to create an apple style “dock”, which is lazyness to me because those would look nice if redesigned in Aero.
Yeah, the start menu in the older systems and the one in XP till now are different. The XP one is alot larger then it needs to be, but because of its large size, you can have alot more in it.
I didn’t want to enter this thread, but this ^ has forced me, this is just sad.
I don’t mind the BSOD
it’s plenty informative enough for noobs, and if you want the full report, you can still find it in the crash dump
What valve are you talking about .
Did I see this right? HAL INITIALIZATION FAILD
HAL? I guess there’s only 8,900 more HAL’s to be made…
sorry for double…
hardware abstraction layer
but I suspect that one was caused on purpose by switching the VM to win3.1 mode or something
That is the strangest attempt at editing I’ve witnessed.
Microsoft should just keep Metro out of the desktop completely. They should separate them- “Windows 8 Desktop” and “Windows 8 Metro”. On the inside, they would be the same- the only difference being the UI. If that happens, Microsoft can get into the tablet market, and Windows can work wonderfully on both Desktops and Tablets. Everyone wins.
I don’t understand what’s wrong with Aero, and can’t fathom why MS is getting rid of it. It works very well, it still looks good- and the glass makes sense: Windows are made of glass, after all! Microsoft should be improving upon what made Windows 7 so great!
I’ll be famous for it someday…
Who has actually played with the developer preview? Is it really that bad in your opinion? I can’t accept an opinion if naysayers are going on how they THINK it looks or feels, or even information they got based on someone’s opinion.
There are plenty of other features that no one else seems to notice. How about the addition of the ribbon to Windows Explorer? Having one click access to a majority of folder commands is nice. Launching a cmd shell for that folder in one click is great. No holding shift and right clicking.
Has any one seen how phenomenal the boot times for 8 are? They are nearly consistent with many different hardware platforms, and outperforms 7 by 10s of seconds, even minutes.
Don’t give me this “boo hoo bad ui” crap and ignore totally great features.
