Rob Pardo at Blizzard support Gabe Newell:
I went to the Microsoft innovation headquarters in Minnesota for a competition a few months ago, I tried it and it was pretty cool for a tablet. It was AWFUL for a PC however.
I disagree. I’ve tried it on my Laptop and desktop, neither of which have touch screens, and have no problems with it. I understand what people say about it being awkward/horrible with mouse and keyboard instead of touch, but I actually like it.
It looks awful.
Well, Microsoft isn’t stupid. I can place faith in the fact that they’ll try and keep their large user-base and not deviate too far from the standard desktop and master bar system. But from the sounds of it, if Microsoft has to take 30% of Steam’s profits, just because it’s downloaded onto Windows 8 operating systems, I think Steam would change the methods of their sales before they agreed to such things.
It’s beginning to look like OnLive, and how they’re fighting to get Apple to approve their app, because it would create an onlive economy within the Apple Store, much like the Amazon app.
Also, if Windows 8 is a closed system that limits downloads, what will that mean for people who haven’t upgraded? I don’t think Windows 8 will be as bad as everything is expecting.
Bout time someone said this. If you guys thought the Vista slam was bad, this will be much, much worse.
Gonna stick to 7
Still the best MS OS
I’ll stick around to see if I can flash the ARM build of Win8 on any of my Android devices. I’ll be seriously disappointed if it’s gonna be like another Windows CE (impossible to install on unsupported devices). I want it to at least run on my Tegra 2 Dual Core device.
Not interested at all in the x86 version, as everyone already pointed out, there’s nothing wrong with Windows 7 in comparison with windows 8’s many problems starting with the awkwardly forced Media Center interface in place of a start menu.
I’mma say Windows 98, but that might just be because that’s what I grew up with.
It’s also the OS on which I first completed HL2, on my ASUS P2B DS with dual 1ghz Pentium III’s.
After spending nearly 2 days on getting it to run.
Only everyone knew Windows 8 was going to suck ass ever since Windows 7 came out.
I agree, Windows 8 looks something like a shiny tsteful apple, but rotten inside.
Not many will move to it. It is designed to move Windows to tablets; there are no real benefits worth the money for PC owners. Corporations will DEFINITELY not move, and consumers will probably be split 50/50, likely even less. It will bomb, being just a concept, but it may lead to a Windows 9 that may really innovate more for the PC.
They just won’t put the whole Metro interface and all the tablet feel on PC for Windows 8. This is not something that you put and then you take. So if Windows 8 will be like this I believe that the following versions will follow the same layout. The purpose of this is to unify all kinds of devices (tablets, smartphones and pc).
Gabe is speaking from devs perspective. And I agree with him.
I mean, really, W8 is perfect on tablets and will work on the Surface tablet but it really is bad for Desktop PCs, without touch monitors. The ergonomics are shit.
This is news to me.
That’s because he’s talking half out of his own ass.
-Windows 8 will have an app store.
-Microsoft takes 30% of everything sold through the app store.
-Only Metro apps will be sold through the app store.
-Steam won’t be in the app store, it will be a legacy app for the app ‘Desktop’.(Yeah, desktop is an app in windows 8[/SIZE])
What annoys me the most is that the words ‘software’ and ‘program’ seems to disappear with windows 8.
I am loving Win7 Pro x64 – Has been extremely stable on my Dual Opteron workstation (have not finished my MagnyCours system yet)… so I am someone who needs a LOT of power for 3D apps (especially rendering… thus all the cores) but I am getting a little worried that as things keep moving in this direction, the options may become more limited in the future. My workstations always use server/workstation boards, and I do not see those disappearing anytime soon, but I just hope that content creators and hardcore gamers are not going to suffer in the “post-pc era”… And as much as I like Win7, I do not want to be stuck with it for 10 years (or whatever the fuck it was) like WinXP Pro…
I’ve used Vista since 2007, and yes. It’s not as good as XP or Win 7 but it will be better than Windows 8. That looks like a cellphone to me… and I would not get my new PC with Windows 8, no way.
Windows 7 for me next time around
Gabe’s so damn right about Win 8 lol
