(I fear I leapt on the opportunity to show off my otherwise irrelevant criminological knowledge without first checking that the question hadn’t already been answered. )
Heres the way i see, executing them is nice, because then they dont have to spend the rest of there life in jail, so really if we want to punish them, let them spend 40 years on jail, then they have time to thing about what they did, and that way if there innocent of a crime, and they find that out, there not already dead. i would much rather die than spend my whole life in prison
Homicide is the nice option? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
I for one, am for Execution. Serious crimes like repeated child abuse, violent and deliberate cases of murder etc should not be forgiven with a long life in jail, or anywhere else for that matter. One hopes that a hell does exist where such cases can ‘enjoy’ death…
Repeat offenders won’t reform, and rotting away in a jail where they get free meals, entertainment and such at the expense of the taxpayer’s money is quite honestly a stupid and poorly thought out idea. Why are they there at all? Imagine the money that could be saved if such criminals could just be euthanized and removed permanently from society… and come on, an injection doesn’t cost more than a lifelong incarceration.
It was possible, and very right back in the middle ages, if not a little over the top, stealing would cost you a finger or a hand in certain empires. But then I won’t fool myself or anybody else, no one would dare change the legal system in such a way, it could endanger the many corrupt people in power already committing such crimes
But that’s just my opinion.
- i dont see how a life spent in jail is in any way being “forgiven”… its pretty horrible
- you seem to have a pretty romantic view of jail, i suggest you try it out sometime
- execution costs more than life imprisonment because of legal costs etc
- wrongly convicted people will have no chance of redeeming themselves or getting their lives back (literally)
I agree wholly with you, I don’t have any experience, but prisoners DO get all that, of course it’s not ‘nice’, locked up with the scum of the earth…
But legal costs exceeding those of lifelong incarceration? I can’t quite believe that.
The only legal costs would be to legalize euthanizing said cases.
Of course, the wrongful conviction is a very valid point, especially with a flawed and corrupt justice system…
There have been many studies which show that lifetime incarceration is cheaper for the tax payer than the death penalty. If you’d like, I can pull those studies but I think you can find them for yourself.
Plus, I take an approach that “death” is too good for these beasts that commit these kinds of heinous crimes. Why should they get off while the survivors, whose lives they ruined, continue to live? I think that they should be kept alive for as long as possible so they can remember what they did.
The reason legal costs for execution are so high is because a person’s life depends on it. It’s because they want to make absolutely sure they’ve got the right guy and that no procedure errors happen.
Of course it still happens regardless.
oh jesus this thread
The only reason you’ve heard that is because it’s an ironic “fact”. Stuff like that catches on like wildfire, like “the fact” drinking liquor along with beer might decrease the chance of a hangover… people eat that stuff up without checking it. I’d like to see a good source cited with your expense report.
The key difference is that with execution, digits are flipped into some lawyer’s bank account, while with life imprisonment, it just makes more mouths for tax-funded minimum wage cooks to feed, and increases the demand to build additional prisons due to their overpopulation and increased strain on prison guards.
If those studies you mentioned are accurate, then the only problem is that lawyers are paid too much.
the cycle repeats once more
edit: ^yeah except it takes years and years for execution to actually happen so those prisons and mouths to feed are there regardless (in addition to the massive amount of prisoners who wouldn’t get executed either way)
all that money is for the trial. taxpayers pay it.
and i have posted the studies, and they are accurate. fuck god damn you people are dumber than ballsacks
Also, “lawyer costs” is a quick and easy copout. Everyone makes lawyer jokes. “What do you call 5 lawyers at the bottom of the sea? A good start!” However, those selfsame people that are critical of lawyers and lawyer fees are the first ones to run to a lawyer if they need them.
It’s been my saying for a long time: “Everyone hates lawyers until you need one.”
meaning overpaid lawyers
(I don’t think renting out the courthouse is very pricey)
Tiki: If that lawyer defended you in a murder trial when you know you didn’t kill the person, would you still think that lawyer to be “overpaid”?
more people get paid than just the lawyers, you know.
and they’re literally defending a person’s life, they had god damn better be paid well.
I could get 4 years for pirating. If a pedophile has a good lawyer he can make him stay 4 years also. There was someone who wrote a book about executions. He sorted them to the level of pain. There is some special gas that makes you really high and fell into unconsciousness then you die. There is no way to do that wrong, unless you are a total idiot. A very high positioned person in the case of executions was asked if they could use that gas. He answererd with: “No, they have to die a painfull death.”
Killing a prisoner the same way he may killed his victim(s) makes yourself no more worth than the guy you actually killed.
So I am for painless executions.
how about slightly less painful than the way they hurt their victims
Battle Royale irl version - I’d watch it, shit ppv and still would…
Slightly less painful means slightly less bad which is still bad. You have the chance to be as good as possible and you still want to do the same bad thing? How stupid is that. If you have the chance to put off a fire with a single bucket of water why would you use a sligthly less big fire to put it off?
