Gabe says that Chell will be in Episode 3. You could just admit that you’re wrong than stubbornly struggle your way out with lame excuses like “My definition of universe is completely different than everyone else’s”
So I suppose now you can at least see that since Gabe Newell said
and that when Kim Swift said
we were all led to believe that when you said
or
or even
that we all assumed you were wrong.
You never said that when you wrote about ‘another universe’ you meant simply that HL2 will not make mention of some events from Portal, yet still acknowledge the reality of every major point from Portal.
Question: If I don’t make mention of specific cookies I ate to my friend Bill, yet he acknowledges that I did indeed have a snack, are we in different universes?
And yes. You being wrong on the internet is extremely important.
i think postal 3 and the Half life 2 are in the same universe
/sarcasm
In fact, telling somebody on the internet that he is wrong, and then elaborating about why that’s the case, is an attempt of teaching this person a lesson. Teaching is attempting to help someone understand a certain concept.
Sometimes, along the rocky road of teaching, one figures out that the person who is supposed to be taught refuses to accept and obtain the provided knowledge, even if based on evidence. That’s when a teacher must acknowledge that he cannot do his job with this person.
The rejecting person is obviously incredibly stupid, full of shit, batshit crazy or a sick evil fuck.
The worst thing you can do to them is stopping to try and teach them. Because, what you are essentially trying to do is help them. But they don’t deserve your help. They deserve to die as stupid, sick, evil fucks who were full of shit. So the worst you can do to stubborn people is: stop (!) telling them why they are wrong. Let them die in stupidity. They want it so badly, why not grant them their dumbness?
Just a playful thought.
BTW: I am an after-school-teacher, so I kinda know what I’m talking about.
I’m starting to like you, Danson.
…in a non-gay way, of course.
Damn, you sound like an awesome teacher
Care to elaborate? All I said was that the tf2 universe is implied to exist in the l4d universe in some shape or form, but that they’re not the same universe (it’s a game/tv show/whatever).
how 'bout we don’t
dagasdg
Yeah, that’s actually probably the better plan.
Well just in case anyone misunderstood me, I know half-life and portal take place in the same universe, and that tf2 and l4d most likely do not.

I hope that the combine invasion of Earth is totally vanquished by the end of EP3 or middle of HL3. And by them the rebels start to organize themselves to invade Race X Homeworld to free them from the Combine. Maybe you are put in stasis for a couple of years. By HL3 EP1-2, another planet which in under control of the Combine is also invaded and freed. At last, by HL3 EP2-3, the three planets’ habitants together invade the Combine homeworld to vanquish them from the face of all universes.
For the invasions, a portal would be created and ships (many stolen from the combine and others manufactured, including the Borealis) would go through them. You would presence a battle between air and ground forces, missiles and explosions and machine gun shoots everywhere. And you would be in control some machine gun or grenade launcher in the same style of CoD4. Or perhaps using whatever technology the Borealis has. Dam, that would be awesome! :awesome:
I’ve always wondered if Ep3 will have some sort of Deus Ex type ending, with Gordon choosing to either destroy (Eli) the Portal tech, or utilize it like Kliener suggested.
The only issue that would arise would be the same issue that came with HL1 and Deus Ex having different endings: If you want a sequel, the devs have to pick one. Of course, they could simply make the end result of either choice roughly the same, but that would greatly ruin the sense of making an actual choice, as opposed to just choosing a different route.
Oh, and +1 to the whole idea of Valve trying to attach us to Alyx to make the choice to kill her difficult/emo. I could totally see that happening. Hell, we rescued Eli twice (well… more like 1.5 times), watched a daughter-father bond grow strong as the series progressed, all to have him die.
It would make sense to have Gordon make a choice, akin to HL1’s ending. Then we would have to wait until HL3 to see what Gordon chooses in canon.
You sound high.
no. I want no more combine after whatever comes out next.
I think it would make much more sense that after the combine have been vanquished on Earth and the Borealis has been destroyed, to give mankind a break to build up its strength again. I mean - wasn’t it about 80 % of the population killed in the 7 hour war and subsequent “depopulation” processes? Of course, there is also the problem with the uncontrollably breeding antlions to be reckoned with. The vortigaunts will surely be of help to gain control over them, but I guess vortigaunts are few on Earth, and antlions will likely be billions by the time HL 3 begins.
That mankind is safe from the combine does not mean it is saved from extinction already. The headcrab infestation will still remain a problem. And it’s not certain that all humans will happily join forces to create a wonderful new society together. In City 17, the resistance was gathered under Eli Vance and his science team (Kleiner, Magnusson, Mossman…) and had help from the vortigaunts. The number 17 suggests that there were at least 16 other cities - either worldwide, or in that country (Ukraine, isn’t it?) alone, full of people who had probably no connection to the resistance. What if some warlord decided to take the opportunity of combine defeat and raise himself to power over one or several communities? What if he doesn’t like the idea of cooperating with the resistance?
Earth after the resistance’s victory may well become a postapocalyptic battleground. Even without antlion- and headcrab infestation.
And wouldn’t that just be wonderfully cliched.
:fffuuu: Dammit, I shouldn’t use the computer while I’m high

Well, your thoughts make sense, but that wouldn’t give much gameplay, I guess. That is why I suggested a two year stasis, but it might also be more like 20. Alyx should be put in stasis with him, too, I would not be happy to see her older. Maybe Dr. Kleiner is the one who put you in stasis, like: “We’ll put you in stasis because we want you to be in full shape by the time we fight back the Combine.”, if the G-Man is kept away by the vortingaunts.
And you would have the Borealis - who knows what kind of power it holds? Maybe there are many of those atomic bombs the US has? I know Eli told you to destroy it, but I think that in the end you won’t. It is important for the human race to attach to everything that might help with its survival, even if it is risky. Better to take chances with it than with an alien race which enslaves entire planets for breakfast.
10% of 2 billion is still a lot of people
erm … actually BM and Aperture worked on parallel projects … BM developed interdimentional teleportation (at least that was the main project) while Aperture developed local teleportation , it’s all mentioned several times in portal and Mossman says in HL2 that the combine can travel from the border-world to Earth but don’t have local teleportation … so … my point is that it’s not sure wheter they’re gonna use Aperture’s tech to open a new super portal or use it for local teleport (depending on the equipment on Borealis)
tl;dr: it’s still not sure what the combine are up to just yet
