All this sceptisism surrounding episode 3 is we’ll just have to wait… But my guess is
Going to the (Cut) Airconditioning plant from Half life 2 , followed by some of the lost coast style, a boat ride that gets attacked by combine on jet ski’s and attack boats…A strange island, snow scooter action, the retaking rebel HQ and the borealis, portal opens all goes wrong. Gordon back on xen…Fights the combine advisors, heped by the Vorts destroys the advisors, Earth is free, jubilation on the streets! G-man…have not got a clue?
Lateral has now been provided with video clips showing how Aperture Science is mentioned in HL2: Episode 2, as well as with quotes from the game Portal that mention Black Mesa as the chief competitor of Aperture Science.
He still refuses to believe that the games and their storys are in any way connected to each other.
That’s correct - only you fail to include the references these games make to each other’s contents.
Either you insist on playing dumb, or you indeed are incredibly dumb, or you are deliberately trolling us. Question: Do TF2 or counterstrike include any hints at something as specific as, for instance, the name of the research facility from the first Half-Life? No? Well, maybe then they are not connected to the Half-Life storyline. Does Portal include reference to Black Mesa? Yes it does? Well then - odds are the games can be connected, storywise. Does GLaDOS the supercomputer from Portal mention that the world above has changed dramatically? Hmm… could be consequences of the Resonance Cascade from HL1 she refers to. Could be anything else, you say?
Have officials from Valve stated that the two games are connected storywise and play in the same universe? Well, yes they have, and it even was put into wiki articles to make it official.
This is what is commonly referred to as “evidence”. Your theory that the two games have nothing to do with each other has been disproven. Your arguments are invalid. Your headstrong persistance in disagreeing with the obvious is quite embarrassing. :freeman:
Yes, but that’s a reference. TF2 and L4D don’t take place in the same universe the way HL and Portal do.
Example: https://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Bill%27s_hat
“While conducting a science experiment on parallel dimensions, Bill’s hat fell off a table into the Team Fortress universe.”
As for the cereal box,
that implies that tf2 exists as a game in the l4d world, but it doesn’t mean that they’re part of the same universe.
That’s true, but maybe TF2 is some kind of TV show or comic book series in the L4D universe. But then there hasn’t been any actual substantial references…
Anyways let’s move the topic away from the idiot and back to GlaDos? I think GlaDos is either a person’s being an asshole or just pure AI I can’t exactly tell. The cores may be parts that monitor certain actions and parts of her brain (and access to do certain things), so as to "control: her mood. Even though that’s pretty far-fetched.
I think she’s more likely to be pure AI. If she was a real person then why did she need to have an apparently computer generated voice? They do seem to have made something that’s pretty close to a human brain, however.
Somewhat related, I personally think the Overwatch Dispatcher is a modified human rather than an AI, as her voice sounds too human-like to have been generated by a computer.
I just played through Ep2 again, and when Eli tells you to destroy the Borealis (right before he’s killed), there’s a certain emphasis on the line “no matter the cost.”
I never really noticed that line until just now, and it gave me the idea that destroying the Borealis will somehow result in Alyx’s death, or you have to kill her to destroy it. Maybe she’s trapped inside while you destroy the ship, who knows. “It’s her or humanity” kind of situation.
This also could make sense as to why Valve has been buttering the player up to Alyx so much throughout the series, character-wise. To create an attachment that could make this decision all the more intense and emotional.
I dunno, thought i’d bring it up before the topic got too stale.
How retarded can these people get, there’s a fine line between Easter eggs, and actual relations. The Borealis was not mentioned as an Easter egg, it’s related to the story.
Anyway… If HL3 has been confirmed, I hope they’re working on both EP3 and HL3, so the release times are not far off from eachother. I’m sure HL3 will be a new engine, and I hope it looks amazing. As for EP3, I think it should be the EP2 engine, possibly with a few updates.
Like I said, it’s an Easter egg, it may not be in the same universe, but it could be a game in the L4D universe, or it could just be a toy collection thing that children sometimes get in their cereal.
Ok, I know in HL2 ep2 they mentioned the Borealis, GLaDOS, Aperture Science, etc… However, while both Portal and Half Life may have those things, I think the events that occurred in Portal will not occur in Half Life. Like there’s two things that exist, but their actions in one game do not relate to the other.
Well, Lateralus, there ya go. The dev says they are in the same universe. Meaning that events from Portal occur in Half-Life. She says it at 00:16.
Unless you have some made up definition of what being in the same universe means, which you probably do.
Now, maybe if what you mean is that the HL series will never acknowledge specific things like Chell, or the presumed destruction of GLaDOS, I guess I could see that. But the events did happen in the same universe. If you personally don’t want to believe it, fine.
The video states that Portal and Half Life relate to one another – which they do. As for HL never acknowledging specific things that happened in Portal; vice versa, yes, that is exactly what I was saying.
And no, my definition of the “universe” was a more of a radical one. There’s nothing made up about it.
Anyway, I have better things to do with my time… It’s like a picture I saw that showed a stick- figure man at his computer: “BRB, someone’s wrong on the internet.” They may be wrong, but it’s not worth arguing against them… I just learned that trying to teach stubborn people does not go hand-in-hand. Thank you, I will use this advice now on.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
