Episode 3 Discussion and Information.

It seemed like valve was alluding to GLaDOS being on the borealis (in some form) with this image file from HL2: episode two:

Interesting, I wonder where that was located in the game.

Probably near the end on a desk.

Itā€™s on the transmission Mossman sends from the borealis

If I know my bills-of-lading well enough, the ā€œGLaDOSā€ seen at the bottom is a sign-off area. It would mean that the shipment was assembled/ordered by GLaDOS. (the actual manifest is along the right edge, from the top) Then again, if GLaDOS arranged the shipment, it could be conclusive that parts of GLaDOS are on the Borealisā€¦ or even that GLaDOS gained control of Aperture shipping.

Whatā€™s really interesting is that thereā€™s a hand-written signature on there.

GLaDOS is an entity unto itself; after all, itā€™s in the name:
Genetic
Lifeform
and
Disk
Operating
System

Will it make her nuts to see Freeman in an H.E.V. suit sporting both Black Mesa and Lambda Complex logos?

I think you have lost the meaning of ā€œgoing crazyā€ in this contextā€¦ itā€™s pretty apparent that GLaDOS was always ā€œa bit off.ā€

From the final confrontation in Portal just after dropping the first ā€œcoreā€ (spherical object) in the incinerator:

Itā€™s not a question of if GLaDOS will try to kill the player, itā€™s just a question of when.

To bad there isnā€™t a clear date on it. Then we could determine if it was before or after GLaDOS killed and trapped the employees in the facility.

Weā€™ll get some reaction out of her.

However, I believe sheā€™d be surprised to see an ex-employee of, thought to have be destroyed, Black Mesa.

Well, she seemed quite happy during the ending of Portal continously saying how sheā€™s still alive and that sheā€™s happy for you.

Like I said before, she doesnā€™t sound like she did during the credits and when the player fought her, so who knows what sheā€™ll do.

She could immediately try and shoot him or sheā€¦

Waitā€¦

Isnā€™t Aylx wearing a sweater with the Black Mesa Logo on it too?

D ;

I think that Gordon and Alyx will get on the helicopter, and dog hanging off the helicopter, and fly to norway and dog will fall off making a giant hole in the ground then alyx and godan will go down to go get him and dog will kill them and he goes off on the helicopter to norway and work with the combine to help them what ever the fuck their doing and play Guitar hero all day longā€¦

and eat cakeā€¦

and dream of cheeze.

If GlaDos is on the Borealis then maybe sheā€™ll be functioning at a minimum state. Being in the bowels of a frozen ship for years canā€™t be too generous.

Too bad we donā€™t have a date for when she killed the employees either so having a clear date on the paper wouldnā€™t do anything for us.

Thereā€™s also the thing about GLaDOS being a ā€œDe-Icingā€ machine, as well as sentient.

This is just speculation, but Iā€™ve kinda felt that GLaDOS may have intended for Chell to destroy her. Since GLaDOS is a computer, it would be logical to assume she had some sort of way to be backed up in the event of an emergency.

ā€œThings have changed since you last left the building. Whatā€™s going on outside will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s going on outside. All I know is Iā€™m the only thing standing between us, and themā€¦ Wellā€¦ I was.ā€ It seems GLaDOS knew about the Combine and needed assistance to be destroyed and backed up to a remote location, possibly so she could better protect the Borealis. Of course, no one would help an insane computer unless they did it unknowingly, so she needed to be antagonistic (poor little companion cube) and threatening (the fire pit) so that Chell would feel the need to destroy her.

And, it might even be that GLaDOS was backed up to a mobile unit, which could lead to some awesome encounters in Episode 3. Of course, itā€™s also possible that GLaDOS is just completely nuts and isnā€™t really going to play any important role, though I find that hard to believe.

 NO FINAL DESTINATION STORY, PLEASE. Though Valve is likely to be able to pump out such an idea, Iā€™d be very disappointed if it actually happened. Besides, they explained that Episode Three will tell about the end of the Combine rule on Earth, but will not be the final chapter of the Half-Life franchise. It just canā€™t end like what you described.

Hope I donā€™t sound too harsh, but seriouslyā€¦

But so far until the Combine portal thing, I agree with you.

So you think GLaDOS led you to destroy her so that her consciousness would be transferred to the Borealis backup, so that she could better maintain and protect it? It soundsā€¦ plausible!

I was playing through portal and in the last test chamber, there is a presentation playing in two different rooms called ā€œDollar$ and SENSE: Competing with BLACK MESA for DoD.ā€ Hereā€™s a video of it I found.

Read the ā€œCase Studyā€ page.

I always wondered whoā€™s brain is GlaDos is using, I know the person who owned Aperture Science had his brain do the same dance (as in putting his brain into that or a similar machine). Or is GlaDos running on pure AI? Or maybe it is the company owner.

Correct me if Iā€™m wrong.

Her processors would be running at peak capacity! :fffuuu:

Iā€™d assume she is pure AI, since they had to install the morality core to stop her from killing people. If GlaDOS was ā€œusingā€ someones brain, she would already have made her own decisions about right and wrong.

But then again, the morality core seemingly only prevents her from using that toxic gas, not doing things that would normally be considered evilā€¦

Talking about GLaDOS, Iā€™d love to see a prequel to Portal, a bit like HL1, where you work as a scientist for Aperture Science, and youā€™d see GLaDOS going wrong, and killing everyone else with the gas and stuff, and you have to survive. :3

Apparently they were doing a prequel with you being a person running through a few of the courses while Mr. Company-owner-using-a-GlaDoS-device-to-stay-alive talks to you. There was an advertisement for a voice actor to play him and they had some small snippet to practice, it was among the lines of ā€œIā€™ve been thinking and since Iā€™m basically a brain in a jar dā€™you think I could go to heaven or hell?ā€.

That is possible too! She could be putting the pedal to the metal just to wake up after such a long slumber.

i know that im getting into this thread a little late but i defiatly agree, just like a teaser trailer or somthing

Errā€¦ Am I the only one who thinks that Portal does not take place in the Half Life universe? Sure, thereā€™s GLaDOS, Aperture Science and the Portal Gun, but I think it is completely different from Half Lifeā€™s universeā€¦ It just uses the same engine.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveā€™s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
