Episode 3 Discussion and Information.

Most people here will probably end up roasting me for saying this, but I really hope Valve just throws aside the episodes and starts over from the end of Half-Life 2. Episodes 1 and 2 are extremely lackluster compared to Half-Life 2.

If by lackluster you mean shorter, then yes. No question.

I think the exact opposite. In all of HL2 there are only about 3 really god missions that arenā€™t boring. In the episodes, evry single one has something good about it.

But I DO agree that here should be a Half life 3 and not am EP: 3. fucking emoticons

The series arc deserves to end on a real game and not some 4 hour installment.

I guess youā€™ve never seen tesselation before?

You seem to like combining words in strange ways. Series and Story-Arc are two different things.

If episode 3 is remotely as good as episode 2, than it shouldnā€™t matter if itā€™s that short. Half-Life 2 was great, but because of itā€™s length it was spread too thin. Episode 2 had great story delivery, but not much really happened over the course of the game. If Episode 3 was as long as HL2, the story would either be spread out horrendously thin, or be filled with padding that really doesnā€™t contribute to the overall story. It should end with a bang & leave a little opening HL3. Valve wouldnā€™t do it any other way.

Does Source support tesselation? I donā€™t think soā€¦

Itā€™s a hi-res model thatā€™s used to extract normal/bump maps for the ingame character.

Iā€™ve actually thought about what Valve would do to either further Alyx and Gordonā€™s relationship, which you notice during EP1-2, or if theyā€™re going to have anything drastic happen to Alyx herself (serious injury (again) or even, well, death).

I just hope the ā€œdeathā€ part doesnā€™t come up.

I bet there will be time travels as the ending of Episode 3. Gordon goes back in time to prevent the incident which occurred back in Black Mesa, which actually prevents the events in HL2, EP 1 and EP 2 to ever happen. The combine did never come to earth, no aliens at all and so on. Gordon successfully defeat or emh prevent G-Man from interfering with the experiment in Black Mesa. Then thereā€™s a some sort of montage of every character that has appeared and what happened to them. When this montage is over you return to the present (or the time where you originally went back in time). Things turns dark and youā€™re Gordon Freeman waking up in the bed next to Alyx.

The next game made by Valve is going to be Full Life, where you live as Gordon Freeman and decorating the house with your wife Alyx. Get children and work at Black Mesa for a living! Itā€™ll beat Sims for sureā€¦

Alright. On a more serious note, Iā€™m pretty sure there will be time travels involved.

THEY KILLED ELI!!!
I gotta know what happens!!! JFIJFLKAJFLKJLITHLIS EFHIELRFLISFNLN muffled dying voice :rabies:

Butā€¦ he wasnā€™t talking about the current version of source. I thought it was quite clear it was an estimate of what future builds could do. Either way I donā€™t think it would be implemented anyway. Not even within 4 years.

You havenā€™t seen Ep3 yet so you donā€™t know ;P.

Damn, I want a screenshotā€¦ Seing the new awesome Portal 2 graphics I canā€™t wait to see how the next chapter of the best game in the history of (FPS) gaming will look like :fffuuu:

I couldnt agree any more, just from the Meet Wheatley video Valve put up on Youtube, you can see that the new engine is AMAZING! There is much more detail, much more animations and better animations, the foliage looks awesome, the new liquid physics is out of this world. Episode 3 will be the BEST resolution for any Series / Episodes of any game. Because its the final game that we will play as Gordon Freeman, and is the conclusion of the past 6 - 5 years weā€™ve been captivated inside the Half-Lifeā€™s universe. The glaciers, the clear water, the borealis, the advisors, Alyx, DOG, Kleiner, Lemarr?, the combine, the FINAL ending (of Half-Life 2). All within the reach of a couple of years (I hope) mid 2011 maybe?

FLUID
SIMULATIONS
:jizz:

EP:3

From what Iā€™ve seen in the gameplay video itā€™s not exactly a fluid simulation, just a clever particle shape/animation. Personally the part I like the most is new lighting (system?) and a bit foggy atmosphere which adds a lot to the realismā€¦

Finally, someone with a bit of common sense. No way Valve would add actual fluid simulations into the game.

Besides from being hard to get it to work well with the gameplay mechanics, it would bring a huge hit on performance.

Still looks nice though.

Real time PhysX fluid animation

Not saying they should implement it but it would be nice to see it in a real gameā€¦

god damn i left this forum for 3 months and this thread already has 56 pages holy S***

ā€œNot another Black Mesaā€

ā€œDestroy that ship!ā€

Judging by Eliā€™s response to the discovery of the Aperture Science vessel, itā€™s safe to assume that there is another Anti-Mass Spectrometer on board.

ā€œPrepare for unforeseen consequences.ā€

This could have a double meaning, as in ā€œnot only bad shit is going to happen to you, but there will be another resonance cascade.ā€ Seeing how Gman said this to Eli right before Gordon shlumped the xenian crystal into the beam.

Thatā€™s a pitiful assumption. The AMS caused the aliens from xen to spill over to earth. (which according to Marc Laidlaw they still do) The Borealis disappeared entirely, including the dry dock & magically appeared in the arctic an unknown period of time later. What the hell makes you think that thatā€™s because it had another Anti-Mass Spectrometer?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveā€™s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
