Episode 3 Discussion and Information.

I know that most of the content speculation was wrapped up in the first 30 pages, but I can’t help but throw in my general hope for the story arc of EP3

I don’t think that there will be a long winded journey to the Borealis like there was in EP2, they’re talking about a variation in game styles here (referencing the Lombardi quote on the first page) I think that there will be a more grand return to the type of game play found at the end of HL, you’re in the Borealis, closed quarters etc. teleport to the combine homeworld through a rift of some sort, and HOLYSHIT it’s essentially xen-like game play. EP3 ends, and then it becomes HL3, God of War 3 style where you just kill EVERY LAST THING THAT EVER STOOD AGAINST YOU.

Not that i’m getting extravagant here or anything, but it’ll be pretty much exactly like that. HL4 will become Valve’s greatest game to date:

HL4D

Half-left for dead :retard: iT would be a cool game though

haha what

PhysX sucks anyway. It’s slow and inefficient. Also, only nVidia cards support it, effectively alienating whoever uses ATI cards.

Nonetheless it would be nice as an option for us nVidia users  . Just like PhysX in Mirror’s Edge etc.

Half-Life 2 Episode 3 is the last time we will be playing as Gordon Freeman, when ever I come across the interview with Marc Laidlaw ill post the link. Though im sure I read it as (You will not play as Gordon in Half-Life 3) and just took that as meaning you will no longer play as him. So the reason I had stated that was because they SHOULD have an epic ending for him if this is our last experience through Gordons eyes.

Well, they said Ep3 will end the current plot line. I don’t remember them talking about us not playing as Gordon in HL3 (it doesn’t mean they didn’t say that though :stuck_out_tongue: ).

No.

I’m sure that if there will be an HL3 one day, it will be with Gordon. I mean, why not play as Gordon? Anyway, HL3 is extremely far away and unlikely. Valve has always said that Episodes 1, 2 and 3 are basically HL3. So it kinda ends there. Developing HL3 would be extremely lengthy and difficult, it would take like 10 years from when HL3 is released.

Maybe they developing episode 3 AND HL3 both? That will explain why ep3 is taking so much time.

This is true.

They didn’t say it would be the end for Freeman, because I distinctly remember Laidlaw saying somewhere: “But don’t worry Freeman fans, if the franchise continues, you will play as Gordon Freeman!”

:fffuuu:

Knew someone would point that out. :FFFUUU:

One thing I hope for prior to Ep3 being released. Is that I upgrade my archaic excuse for a computer to play it maxed out.

I wouldn’t mind a game playing as Alyx. But not in the HL Episode 3. I want to play this thing out now. I have to know how it ends. But for me (being a girl of course), I’d enjoy playing with an Alyx mindset.

Yes, because it would take forever for a major company like Valve to make a entirely new game.

It’s like you know you’re talking about Valve, yet you forgot you’re talking about VALVE. They use their money to take their time, and try new and risky things, it’s how Portal was born, and how Half-Life 2 and beyond flows so well.

However, I suspect they either haven’t really done much beyond that concept art we saw way back (and have instead been dumping all resources into feeding their latest cash cows) and they’re too afraid to admit this to potentially rabid fans, or they’re being super-secret to make absolutely sure that the next release is a huge surprise.

Adam, you sly cat! Thanks!

They don’t work on one game at a time. Valve is able to work on several projects at once, but they more or less prioritize their work depending on which game comes out earlier.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
