Duke Nukem Forever

The problem with the game isn’t that its linear, its that its repetitive and not fun, and the humor is cringeworthy.

I think the problem with the game is not its graphics or the two weapon limit (graphics are ok, if you disable motion blur, and 2 weapons make the gameplay mor variable).
Even the linearity of the levels is bearable.
Its just that the level design is so stupid.
I mean, in this deserted village part, there are houses with an upper level with enemys shooting from it, but there are no stairs up there, not inside nor outside, not that you cant reach them, the house just has no. Or the getting fuel part: Duke can lift 600 pounds, but taking 2 cans of fuel instead of one so he doesen’t have to stop so quickly, no, thats impossible. Everything is so predictable. You are in this mentioned village, enemys appear in several waves. A wooden door is closed and stops you from going further. And from the first moment its sure: you have to kill the enemys, then the game will go on. After you have killed all waves of enemys, a single pig crushes the door and you can go through. Duke kills them with bare hands, but he can’t open that wooden door. This is serious sam style!
Then this mine part. You see the mine. My first thoughts were: hey, mines, seen them in half-life 2 and call of juarez, many options for cool level design. Perhaps some kind of mine lorry rollercoaster? And after a minute, you killed 15 enemys and you had a 10 second rollercoaster ride, and thats all with the cool mine part.
The game feels like serious sam combined with tits and postal 2 (and some very repetitive one liners).
I liked DN3D, it was a classic just like Doom. But a modern game just can’t use these stupid level design elements again after games like half-life.

[edit]…

fuck it not worth my time.

Sorry i didnt use the word… JUST for ya Medevilae…

fat kids on the net need to go do something outside for once.

So? Why are you still typing?

[COLOR=‘Black’]Come on, did you not see that coming?

Because I had already typed something an posted it. Hence the edit.

Here’s something funny, Those forumites that bet that Black Mesa would come out before DNF get to eat their words tomorrow (that is, unless the Black Mesa team decides they want to release the mod within the next 24 hours)

FTFY

Why American? I downloaded it earlier.

The game was released 4 days ago everywhere except in the USA.

Oh thats right. Still not sure why they did that, I thought Gearbox was based in the US.

They are.

I loved what the game had to offer (the 2 weapon limit was frustrating for a little bit but the most it did to nerf my gaming experience was force me to stand still in certain areas and decide which 2 guns would be best to use for the next area before I left). I even think the graphics are ok.

I did not like that you can’t do anything else but what the game wants you to do. I’m not talking about the SP or MP experiences. I’m talking about customizing. They’ve been claiming that this is first and foremost a PC game. That’s crap. It has none of the features you’d expect from a PC game. The game menu is made for consoles, barely any customizing options for the graphics beyond a couple checkboxes (most everything seems consolidated into the “Post Processing Effects” option), no FOV control (which is a big issue for some), no MOD tools, no in-game console (removed because it would make people cheat in multiplayer, official word), and no options for the unsupported dedicated server feature AT ALL (there’s no console window or anything, no way to moderate and administrate your own server. No option other than Exit. And you can’t join your own server because Steam won’t allow multiple instances of the game EXE). As a PC game it’s pathetic. As a console game, it’s also pathetic due to the insane load times, low res textures, and low framerate.

Besides that the game is great. I loved it. I even like the My Digs level where you can view all the trophies and unlockables available from leveling up in MP.

you can thank 2K for the “not supporting Dedicated servers” feature, they did it for Bioshit2 as well.

This isn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting from all the reviews. It does have some large problems (fucking quicktime events!) but it’s also really diverse, and there are some really fun little sections so far.

I’ve played much, much worse FPSes this year. I’m looking at you, Homefront.

You mean Modern Doorfare?

Hahahaha god ain’t life a bitch…

I’ve played it for a bit and it really isn’t that bad. If anything, its biggest problem is the lack of proper pacing, as the game seems to have quite a bit of pointless padding.

I just played 2 hours of DNF, I gotta say, the game is starting to wear on me… even on “Piece of Cake” (Easy) difficulty setting, the game is pretty difficult… There are a couple of jokes in DNF that even I thought were annoying (and I’m the guy that tells annoying Jokes) like the “Leroy Jenkins” reference during the Ruined Las Vegas levels or the one EDF faggot from the same level that swears too much. There are way too many puzzles in Duke 4, IMO. The puzzle where you have to slow the elevator down was overkill (don’t get me started on the whiny bitch in the elevator that screams at you to pull the brakes), The puzzle in the casino portion with the Duke statue was just retarded, Hitting that button for the last shutter (mini-duke portion of that same level) was pointless. Overall, I’m beginning to get annoyed by all these goddamn puzzles.

BOOM!
