Same here, really. At least at first. I couldn’t stand to play past Hell’s Kitchen in New York. I’d always wondered why everyone gave it such good reviews, so I’ve pressed on into the game and once you get to the part where the shit hits the fan, I couldn’t STOP playing until I beat it.
The problem with the first playthrough is that it’s so hard to communicate what’s happening while making playable scenarios. Even the fairly lengthy briefing by Paul at the docks didn’t really indicate what the fuck was happening on Liberty Island. Still, easily the most enjoyable parts are the actual undercover agent levels where you’re wandering city streets as a civilian trying to find information, rather than making another raid on an NSF base.

Nah, I’m joking, but I didn’t find it boring at all.
In all seriousness, what an amazing game Deus Ex is. I’m tempted to install it and play it again after so many years. There was a point where I didn’t know the code to a keypad so I randomly typed numbers into it and accessed it first time; I just sat there in disbelief.
This looks way more Ghost in the Shell-ish than any other Deus Ex. I might even get this one.
Oh no, will there be enormous periods of inactive street cutscenes and constant discussions about the human condition in it?

As for me, I will go back to playing Dues Ex on my Mobility Radeon 1270 powered laptop.
And since Bioshock is System Shock 2 dumbed down for the console tards, and I enjoyed Bioshock… and Doom 3, and Quake II, and Project Origin, and… well you can tell that my standards are low, I plan on playing Invisible Wars… after I get Far Cry… for my 2600XT/Pentium 4 powered desktop.
Edit: 'Nother Shack crosspost
That was pretty much like the original Deus Ex. So yes.
I fear this will be nothing like the original Deus Ex, and therefore will suck.
^ i don’t know how many there are but yes. yes they are good. infact they were some of the best rpg/shooters of all time which was why i was so excited for this new one…
until i saw the square enix logo.:’(
thanks for raping my childhood again square, i really love it when you kill the stuff i love.
Uhhh, they’re just the publishers, Eidos Montreal are developing it.
it better not have the goofy weapon inertia. (i.e Invisible Wars, where when you were walking your gun would slide across the right of the screen for a few seconds, and then swoop down, go to the other side and the process would repeat.)
Argh.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (previously Deus Ex 3) will be the third game in the first-person shooter/role-playing game series Deus Ex, as well as a prequel to the award winning Deus Ex video game. The game is being developed by Eidos Montreal in co-production with Square Enix, who will be responsible for the movie sequences and publishing.
I’m really into it.
Deus Ex was awesome. It had RPG elements, a more open level feel than traditional shooters that allowed you to complete objectives in a myriad of styles, talking your way in and out of trouble, shooting things up, knocking people out, sneaking around dangerous threats, hacking into computers or sneaking around looking for passwords, or overhearing them in conversations. It rewarded you for lateral thinking. It rewarded you for making interesting decisions.
Invisible War punished you for every choice you made, and tried way too hard to be a shooter instead of an RPG/Shooter hybrid. Invisible War sucked to its very center. It was a terrible game.
I am getting a similar distaste from what I am hearing about this game. If they remove the RPG elements, and the lateral thinking like the second one did, which restricted your movement with invisible walls and crap like that, I don’t even want to talk about that shit anymore…
More Deus Ex awesomeness. Less Invisible War shit.
Damn that looks pretty. There isnt a single Square Enix published game I have liked yet though, I’m hoping this will break that trend. The original Deus Ex looks good, but I find it hard to play games with super dated graphics. >.<
You didn’t like Batman Arkham Asylum?
I see WB, Rocksteady, Eidos, and DC on the case, but nothing about Square Enix…
That sounds alright, Square Enix has done some pretty sexy CGI sequences before.
I’d go as far to say that it’s an RPG with shooter elements, like Fallout 3 but years earlier.
Damn, I can see the case from here but if I reinstall a few weeks of my life will disappear again. :fffuuu:
Deus Ex? I’ll put it like Yahtzee’s Heavy Rain review. It’s very good when you get into it, but I certainly won’t blame people for not being able to make it that far.
I’m really looking forward to DX3. Hopefully they haven’t been wasting their whole budget just on that trailer.
Well, you’re right. But since Square Enix bought Eidos, that game is technically from them too.
