Crysis 2

The AI isn’t dumb (it especially isn’t STILL dumb; Crysis 1 had great AI) but it is a little buggy. When it works it’s great, especially the way the Ceph navigate the environment and use cover. I also found myself in several “Clever girl!” moments when I got majorly flanked and killed.

There are fewer environmental destructibles, but cover can be destroyed now, which is a nice change of pace from infinitely hiding behind sandbags and massacring everyone.

I didn’t see any infinite respawning, but I guess it’s possible that some of the larger set pieces had it.

Keep in mind that this is a different gameplay philosophy than Crysis 1, which was a lot more slow burning. They definitely took action-packed set-piece theme from Warhead and ran with it, but it works great for what it is.

I’ve seen some pretty dumb stuff like soldiers stuck against a wall, tanks shooting you while you’re behind a wall undetected, that sort of things. Guess Crysis 2 is more a spin off than a sequel.

While the game itself is not bad, the PC release of Crysis 2 has got to be one of lowest moments in the history of PC gaming.

I mean, GTA4 PC was a rather lousy port on release but at least it still had customizable graphical options from the get go.

Crytek blatantly lied to the fans. Promised a PC version far superior to the console versions but all we got was a straight port with just slightly better graphics and no advanced options. No DX10/11 support. Terrible multiplayer server browser and matchmaker. No mod tools.

Crytek basically took a shit on their own legacy.

And you can easily cheat in MP by simply editing a few files.

What a disgrace.

Crytek is working a DX11 patch, this was confirmed a while before the game’s release. Overall the game is great, graphics look grand despite a few bad textures.

That was only confirmation that the rumors of the DX11 patch going up yesterday were false. Before the game’s release however, they stated that they were going to patch DX11 in.

Then they should have delayed the PC release. DX11 support is, IMO, a big part of the game and should not be considered something that they can just “patch in”.

Plus, the game is nothing impressive visually. I’m not saying it looks bad, it definitely doesn’t, but I expected SO much more from Crytek. Crysis 1 looks a lot better maxed out, even considering the fact that it’s a different environment and can run on DX10 as well as 9.

Gameplay wise I didn’t find it enjoyable. Crysis 1 seemed to give me a lot more “freedom”-- Crysis 2 is CONSIDERABLY more linear and fast-paced, becoming very much a run-and-gun shooter like Call of Duty and the like. Hell, MW2 was a more enjoyable experience than this. The most fun I had by far in Crysis 2 was when you swam to that island with the C.E.L.L, where there’s a lighthouse or something as soon as you get on the island, because I could actually effectively use stealth tactics to take out the enemies without alerting others. Everything else was a chore to play, and the story was boring and very badly executed.

Extremely disappointed in this game. To think I was actually considering buying it, glad I didn’t. I would hesitate to even pay $10 for this game, and even so only consider it because of the multiplayer which I found somewhat enjoyable during the public demo.

I will avoid any future patches for this game, guess I’m lucky that I actually benefit from the lack of Dx10/11 rendering in Crysis 2. It’s one of the smoothest post-2007 games I’ve ever installed on my old piece of crap gaming rig.

Keeping in mind that no attention has been payed to DX11, do you really think a patch to include it would improve the game?

No, but I bet they will have to do it to stop the tsunami of complaints from people who bought a brand new watercooled quad HD6870/GTX590 to play crysis 2 in the best graphics possible, then realizing their friend with a radeon 5770 runs it on the same settings at the same resolution with the same FPS.

No it won’t. They’ll find something else to complain about. Like how it changes nothing. Crysis 1 remains the better benchmarker of PCs.

This is exactly why I’m torrenting it… Granted it’s taken over a week to download now… :frowning:

Oh well, there have been bigger disappointments in gaming history, I’m sure. There’s really no need to get so butt sore over it. Too be honest, Crysis 2 wasn’t a game that was too high on my list anyway. That title goes to Skyrim and Mass Effect 3.

I quite enjoyed Crysis 2. I don’t really see what most people’s issue was. It was more linear than the original, definitely but I don’t see why people are comparing it to CoD. It’s at least got the verticality to stop it from being a strictly hallway shooter.

Something’s up with games this year, though. Every game I’ve played that was released this year has been fun to me (with the exception of Homefront) but the ending dragged on for fucking forever. Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, and now Crysis 2.

You poor thing.

I think the multiplayer is what is getting compared to CoD more.

People’s issue was that it wasn’t as good as Crysis, which it isn’t. Its far to linear and limited to even be comparable in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, its some great fun, but its just not on the level of Crysis. I mean, it has no sheet metal building equivalents. That was half the fun of Crysis.

You wanna go you sarcastic bitch? :freeman:

E-FIGHT!

Some people just like to complain.

People complain about graphics when the graphics aren’t really anything to complain about (it runs much better than the first game and is less unstable, plus it is possible to modify individual settings with the console and system.cfg), people complain about no DX11 (disappointing, but really it’s possible to live perfectly fine without it).

The game gets compared with Call of Duty but honestly it has so much more freedom than people would make it seem. CoD pretty much just points you in one direction to shoot and makes all enemies all-star grenade spammers with infinite respawns for some reason. In Crysis 2 it’s considerably more linear than the first game in that the progression of areas is linear but within each area you’re allowed much more freedom than a CoD game, and there is a set number of enemies so infinite respawns are not an issue. Even if there are a lot of enemies, they never respawn infinitely and they will eventually stop. People forget that CoD doesn’t allow freedom of movement beyond maybe a house or maybe a few random bits of cover on a mostly flat plane and running between those points of cover. Crysis 2 allows you to take advantage of the environment and the little things that have zero functionality in a CoD game.

People complain about less suit functionality but then they don’t realize how the suit really is more powerful and useful. Armor mode actually works like armor, as in you really can absorb a significant number of hits when it’s on and it’s not just some BS “Default” mode with a fancy name. Switching modes is easier and more streamlined than the first game, and considerably more forgiving. Not to mention that energy recharges much quicker. Because of all this you are able to get much more out of your suit than you could have in Crysis 1, although the sprint speed is considerably slower for some reason.

The only problems I have with the gameplay are the inconsistent cover/lean system and the fact that out of every dozen or so really good AI maneuvers, there are usually one or two enemies running into walls.

And then there’s also the thing about the story being much better than the first, and it ties into the first game well too.

EDIT: I guess Someonerandom does have a point about the lack of sheet metal buildings. :frowning:

Those are some of my favorite memories in gaming. Those things were freakin’ fun.
