Crysis 2

The reasons i think people are complaining about the graphical side of things are all based on the legacy that the first crysis game created for itself.

Crysis 1 was the epitomy of showing the PC’s ‘superiority’, it gave peole bragging rights if they could run it at a playable framerate (or even at all) back in the day, and i think the fans of the first game were expecting the second game to keep this legacy alive, they were expecting the greatest pc game (in terms of graphics) ever made, and so to find out that the game won’t even be taking advantage of the latest graphics technology on release, or even let you change the game’s settings without having to delve into a config file is a massive let down.

I think it’s great that the game has obviously been optimised a fair bit so it can run well on some more lower end cards, but equally i think it’s quite obvious to see why the majority of pc players are so unhappy with it.

In short, i think in Crysis 2’s case graphics are something to be complained about.

i didn’t know throwing a can maybe like 10 meters away took all your fucking energy

I wanted to post the same thing but I didn’t because of the mass of grammar fails. Thank you.

Most people complain about Crysis 2 because they own Crysis in the first place and believed that a sequel should be better than the original game.

And while most of them upgraded their system to run games like Crysis, they don’t accept to have a downgraded console port for a sequel. Furthermore when the gameplay lost many of its original flavor, you can’t believe most of gamers will follow without bragging.

Crytek didn’t meet expectations, that’s all. Crysis 2 is a good game but everybody thought it would be an awesome one.

Played Crysis 2 on Normal level on a PC. Except for the graphics, this game doesn’t even come close to Crysis or Warhead. Most of your unlocks and upgrades are totally useless as you don’t need them to finish the game. I never found one of my favorite weapons (pistol with silencer). The ending was very disappointing as you can sneak around most of your enemies, except for the last 4 which need to be killed to open the core. Once in the core, it was maybe 6 maneuvering keystrokes and that was it. The game ended. I have no idea what I did that caused the whole thing to explode.

I found a pistol with silencer in the beta, I still need to play all the way through the retail version.

They were never announced to be necessary to finish the game. They are only there to make it a bit easier.

Its still nice not having to switch to strength mode to super jump every time, and integrating super speed with just sprinting works very well. Suit powers for me were the largest step up from the original.

there are many pistols with silencer…

My problem is its pointless to carry a pistol because it is now a primary weapon, and the assault rifle shotgun combo is always best there.

okay let’s just make you a gamepad with one button on it which fires, crouches, leans, walks, reloads, jumps and switches armour modes when we are at it

stop simplifying

Because streamlining is bad.

Switching to strength mode in Crysis 1 every time you wanted to super jump or super throw was annoying. Having to switch to speed mode every time you wanted run was annoying. Removing these issues to better maintain the flow of combat is good.

Integrating sprint is one of the things I despise most about the suit powers. In Crysis 1 you had options - you could sprint while in any non-speed mode (by pressing the sprint key) OR just switch to speed mode and “walk” as fast as you can while sprinting in any other mode. If you sprint in speed mode, holy moley don’t run into a wall because you will kill yourself.

In Crysis 2, your player is totally incapable of sprinting without burning suit energy…there’s no walk–>run–>SUPER-RUN progression, it’s just auto-mode, which is annoying in itself.

You could just double-tap the jump key and accomplish the same thing. Again, the auto-mode is annoying - give me the option to just pick something up and throw it normally, or voluntarily burn energy to throw it across the map.

Now that I’m thinking back, you can actually double-tap certain keys to access other intuitively-associated suit modes. Example - double-tap your crouch key to enter stealth mode (which makes sense - you tend to crouch when you don’t want to be seen). Or the jump or melee key for strength mode (again, intuitive).

Like others have said, simple (i.e. dumbing down) <> better.

I was initially pumped for Crysis 2, but after playing the demo, seeing the poor excuse for a console port, no graphics options, that annoying-as-hell menu tilt thing, and linear gameplay… I’m glad I didn’t pre-order, and I might find other means of playing it rather than buying it. Shame for Crytek (or rather, shame ON Crytek).

I love Crysis 2. I am not worried of the lack of graphics option because now I don’t have to change them every 10 minutes.
Rearranging the suit powers was nicely done. In Crysis 1 you could ignore the powers of the suit the most time and play it like any other shooter. In Crysis 2 you have to switch between modes and take care of your energy level to survive fast combat situations.
The new suit enhances the gameplay directly instead of being just a passive tool in Crysis 1.
If you look around a bit you can still see that the levels are designed to have multiple ways of passing them. The new atmosphere mainly increased by the high buildings and the new lighting give you the feeling that you are in a very small fighting area while it is not really. Compared to C1 the freedom did decrease just a little bit. Saying that the maps are as restricted as the Call of Duty maps is just exaggaration. The new aliens are far more fun to kill than the annoying aliens in C1.

Crysis 2 is one of the games I am willing to pay for.

Crysis 2 was a much more focused game than the first one. In C1 the maps were bigger, sure, but the various play styles weren’t as well implemented. In C2 stealth is far more fun because it just works better. Stealth kill integration with the cloak just made playing stealthy much more fun, because you could go Arkham Asylum on people’s asses, and it was more rewarding as a result.

The story was also quite more interesting and kept me hooked, whereas enlightenment on the narrative was rather spartan in the early chapters of the original game.

Plus, no sound cut out problems. How cool is that?

The AI wasn’t quite so good but they still managed to occasionally display some intelligence.

Why couldn’t I have know this when I played it. Or, more specifically, why couldn’t Crytek have made better tutorials.

u mad bro

I beat Crysis without using camo or speed once.

Not hugely.

And you don’t need camo and speed, but they are more fun, just like you could beat Half Life 2 without the AR2, but disintegrating an entire room full of people with bouncing energy balls is fun.

Aww that sucks. I can’t count how many people I killed in crysis 1 just by throwing a barrel or other objects normally at them (without super strength)

Even if it didn’t kill them, them getting knocked down with an explosive barrel then shooting it while they get up was funny.
