Crysis 2

You are correct. What good is a wide open sandbox map if most of it is completely empty save trees?

What good are sneaking mechanics when the AI is absolutely horrifyingly bad? People who praise Crysis seem to go on endlessly about the freedom it gives the player, but none of that is any good if the actual enemy you fight against is complete garbage.

Crysis 2 DOES look like an improvement gameplay wise BECAUSE they’re limiting themselves to weaker hardware. More compact action. Less time to notice how simple the enemies are. I have to say I am interested in the jumping/ climbing mechanics too. I will definitely be checking out the 360 demo Tuesday.

:awesome:

I just realized that both this and the new Duke Nukem trailer use the song Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy :3

Most of the AI problems weren’t universal. They were glitches. the game worked fine for me, as it did for a lot of other people in this topic.

I enjoyed Crysis up until the escort mission in the snow (yes, I enjoyed the alien ship, though it didn’t make any sense being in that mountain). I found the jungle combat to be invigorating. It was definitely a few steps above Far Cry, with it’s scripted enemy targeting when you should have been out of range, it’s manufactured barriers that didn’t make any sense, enemies that weren’t fun to fight, and so on and so on…

Have you ever actually PLAYED Crysis?

Oh wait- Steam says you don’t own it. Sure, you could of pirated it, but I’m gonna call your bluff and say you’re talking out of your ass, son.

Steam doesn’t say I own it either, and I do. Legitimately. Just not through steam.

First of all, I’m not sure how you can call Crysis completely empty save for trees, when it is filled with so many different types of plants/buildings/vehicles/props, etc. etc. You go into a building, you will see shelves with many different objects that actually make sense, such as plates and books and things like that (all of which you can pick up and manipulate and destroy).

Second, the AI seemed very good to me, aside from one issue that plagues probably EVERY game I’ve heard of so far. This paragraph from the gamespot review summarizes it well:

Now, one thing I will give you is that it does have its fair share of bugs, but in the many times I’ve played it on many different machines they were either too minor to get upset over, or happened in the very last mission (inexcusable, but still not as bad as many people make the bugs out to be).

Any other “points” you’d like to make?

What was bad about the ai? I played it and the ai was just fine?

Also xalender I find it funny how you think the graphics not being able to be as good will have any impact on the gameplay. It doesn’t really relate, the people coding the engine aren’t the same people coming up with gameplay mechanics.

Crysis is doomed to be that game that people who haven’t even tried it hate on because of its pre-existing reputation (as wrong as it is).

I bought it physical. It’s not attached to steam.

Yeah, that’s nice and all but that doesn’t do shit for gameplay. It’s fluff. Useless bullshit. Might as well not be there. No better than being empty.

There’s nothing wrong with the gameplay, though.

If anything it had AMAZING gameplay considering suit powers, not to mention the very original and fun part in the alien ship/base at the end.

(See alien flying right toward you, shoot, move on) Amazing.
(boss battle: Stay behind truck. Duck. Shoot. Duck. Shoot. Duck. Shoot.) Revolutionary.
(FINAL boss: just do what everyone tells you to) The whirlpool a the end was cool.

The suit powers were a cool idea I’ll admit.

I can’t play Crysis for more than 20 minutes before the pattern just gets to me.

I go in guns blazing, they shoot back. Alright, pretty good. It gets too hot and I have to pull out. They chase me. I stop. They keep going, turn around, and stare at me. I just shoot em after that. Every fucking god damn time.

I stealth it. Shoot from distance. Advance. Shoot from distance. Advance.Shoot from distance. Advance. Shoot from distance. Advance.Shoot from distance. Advance. Shoot from distance. Advance.Shoot from distance. Advance. Shoot from distance. Advance.

Close range stealth you say? Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Cloak. Sleep dart a guy. Shoot them all in the head.

Guess what? I loved Crysis, and it is one of my all time favorite games. I found the AI to be fine, the gameplay great, and the openness incredible. Deal with it. No one here is going to be convinced that the good time they had with the game was actually them not having fun, and those who enjoyed the game will not convince those that didn’t that it was actually fun. Go move on with your lives and lets discuss Crysis 2.

I have noticed that worrying trend towards apparent linearity in the trailers, but I’ll have to see what becomes of it in game.

No hard feelings xal, I guess not everybody like the game. shrugs

Half-Life: Shoot things, solve puzzle, shoot more things, solve another puzzle shoot more things

Mario: Run, jump, run, jump on enemy, run away from enemy, jump again, run some more.

Call of Duty: shoot things, move, shoot things, move, shoot thigns

Counter Strike: Join server, run around, kill things, get yelled at by ten year olds, shoot things, get killed, shoot things

Zelda: Slash things, run around, solve puzzle, slash more things, solve puzzle

Command and Conquer: Watch movie thing, build base, attack Watch movie thing, build base, attack

Final Fantasy: Walk around, fight something, walk around, fight something

Doom: Sprint around, shoot things, sprint more, shoot more things

MMORPGs: Get quest, go do fetch thing, turn in quest Get quest, go do fetch thing, turn in quest

Portal: Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move, Shoot portal, move,

Gmod: Build thing, Build thing, Build thing, Build thing, Build thing,

Minecraft: Hit block, build thing/craft, Hit block, build thing/craft, Hit block, build thing/craft, Hit block, build thing/craft,

Want more?

Over simplification doesn’t prove a point because everything looks bad over simplified.

/thread.

Fuck that,

/LIFE

back on topic, Crysis 2 looks like it could be fun, but my main problem with it is it’s change of location, and the Aliens. It’s like they completely dropped the story from crysis 1 except for the fact that there were aliens. They look nothing like the original matrix reject aliens, more like transformer rejects now.

Yeah the story wasn’t the strong point of the game, but that doesn’t mean they had to ditch it. Especially with the ending saying that “we’re going back”

But maybe that’s why its a trilogy i guess.

Or i could be completely wrong and it could just look different, and tie in with the first quite well

Also, i don’t really see how that’s all fluff. Maybe the plates and stuff, but most stuff you could use as a weapon for bashing or throwing at enemies.

It’s the same as the gravity gun for HL2, except in hl2 you pick stuff up with a gun and punt it, in Crysis you pick it up with your hands and throw it.

Most games physics are just a gimmick but they actually used them for something. And if you take cover behind a tree, the tree can be destroyed, effectively

eliminating cover. Or, you could shoot said tree down and use it for cover temporarily while you prone behind it.

i enjoyed seeing xalenar get shut down. thank you all for a good read.

i am very much looking forward to renting crysis. yes, for my xbox.

How the fuck can you still manage to spell my name wrong? It’s spelled out RIGHT THE FUCK HERE TO THE LEFT.

That’s just fine… But I believe this whole thing started because someone stated their opinion against Crysis and you all gave him shit for it? goes back and reads

… Yeah, ya’ll are definitely in the wrong.

But most of those things still look pretty good even oversimplified. Cept Counterstrike.

I do have to say, with the advanced movement I am really looking forward to Crysis II and am hoping for a snowday Tuesday so I can play the multiplayer demo.

Oh yes, i’m sure everyone changed his mind.

He didn’t enjoy the game nor did I. The quality of the game didn’t suddenly jump just because you people say so. The thread’s about Crysis 2. We want to see better gameplay and AI than what was in Crysis 1. Deal with it. Nobody cares about your opinion on the first game when the conversation is supposed to be focused on flaws that could be fixed in the second game.

I’m sure the maps will still be pretty open despite overblown drama from PC fanboys watching a few short clips of campaign footage and drawing some crazy conclusion.

What I will miss though is the color green. It’s slowly being excised from modern shooters. :frowning:

But of all non-gameplay things I REALLY hope they improve on is the voice acting. Jesus Christ.

I have faith in C2’s gameplay though.

There’s color in modern shooters?

But yeah, this looks like a major improvement over Crysis 1. I beat both it and Warhead but I sure as hell didn’t “enjoy” doing it. And the multiplayer was god-awful. (Sucks that the one guy I’m always playing games with wants to play it CONSTANTLY.) But whatevs, I respect that some of you guys like it. I’ll definitely be “previewing” Crysis 2, and if I like what I play, I’ll make the purchase.
