Call of Duty: Black Ops

IW still hasn’t settled the metric craploads of legal issues with Activision at this point in time last I checked… who knows what’ll happen.

Well, Black Ops just got patched again. Now it runs worse. Treyarch ftw.

funny… I still play MW1 (CoD4) and I have lots of fun. Also there are dedicated servers with custom maps and content for MW1. Can’t say that about the others (BO, MW2).

This is probably why I won’t be buying this ridiculous excuse for a game.

I had fun during the time playing, who cares if it’s smoke and mirrors, I agree, this game takes very little skill (unless you play it on VET, then it’s some effort). It was fun while it lasted and that’s pretty much what i expect from COD. Although I guess if the people with you did nothing and killed no one then someone would complain about that as well.

Aside from that though i do agree with him, PC games were once special, consoles ruined this, FPS will never be the same because of consoles and it makes me sad :frowning:

QFT.

It seems to me that Xbox360 and PS3 have ushered in the era of mass production for video games, where quantity out-sells quality.

Personally, I don’t agree with that assessment. If anything, consoles helped bring in a larger choice of games for PC users.

Think of it this way: if a company spends its resources creating a heavily scripted, “eh” kind of FPS that ends up just being a port from console to PC, can you really believe they would deliver a quality game if consoles didn’t exist? I don’t think so.
IMO, consoles gave video gaming a HUGE boost, which in turn spurred more game companies popping up, more people studying game design in college, more money being spent on video games in general, which, lastly, gave us more games that we never would have had otherwise.

In most cases, if a company is able to make good PC games that aren’t just console ports, they will do so, regardless of whether or not its easier to develop worse games for consoles. Has valve abandoned its PC gamers? No, it just started porting its games to consoles, which gives it more money to create better PC games. Has crytec decided to make Crysis 2 PC just a poorly-coded console port? We’ll find out soon, but signs point to no, and its console Crysis 2 sells will most likely give it more money and more popularity to develop more “Wow”-worthy games, like Crysis was. Obviously, if a well-respected PC game developer went bad and started producing many mediocre console ports, then there’s cause to be concerned, but I just haven’t encountered any cases of this (ok, maybe Rockstar games, but here’s to hoping that GTA V will be a good quality port to PC, plus the PC GTA games were often buggy at launch anyway). Instead, we get the same quality games from the same quality PC game companies as before, plus the choice of other “OK” games to help us pass the time every once in a while.

That video is way retarded, Fridge.

 1. As that man so proudly proclaims, he is playing on the second to hardest difficulty. Try that man’s method out on Veteran. Tell me how far you get (everyone knows you are limp-dicked if you play on anything lower than Veteran).

 2. He was hiding behind cover the entire time. He wasn’t running through the streets with his cock twirling about as people randomly fell down dead. He was allowing his teammates to do all the work! This is an improvement over the other CODs where your teammates are useless and the enemy searches only for you (this improvement is lost on Veteran, mind you).

 3. This is the first level where they have the player become acclimated to the game, so of course their gonna bring the difficulty down.

 4. I actually found this level to be annoyingly difficult. I would keep dying when I was ziplining down the hill because people were shooting me and I couldn’t fire back.

 5. So let’s say the game is terribly scripted. So what. It’s fun anyway. The fucktard wasn’t participating in the action so obviously it isn’t fun. If you actually get out there and let yourself be fooled by the “smoke and mirrors” (as if there is tomfoolery), you will have fun.

It’s like everyone’s looking for ways to bash the game since it’s COD so there MUST be something wrong with it.

I personally thought the campaign was mostly great, up until the final mission where it was all James Bond-like. And I didn’t like the super happy ending. Though the intel looking forward seemed to hint at a more realistic ending to this story.

And as for the discussion about games becoming watered down because of consoles: yeah, I agree. I wish we could go back to a time when all game developers cared about were customers. They didn’t want money! [/sarcasm]

I feel the need to quote Tool here:
“All you know about me is what I’ve sold ya
Dumbfuck
I sold out long before you ever even heard my name
I sold my soul to make a [game]
Dipshit
And then you bought one!”

My only real issue with the video is that he bought the game. His point is valid, a game which you can do nothing in and still win on hard is poorly made. To say “well its only good on veteran” is just idiocy. A good game uses game balance to make all difficulty levels some what challenging. This is an obvious concept.
Also, as nice as it is for a CoD game not to have idiot team mates, at least you were doing something.

It comes down to personal preference. You enjoyed it, he didn’t. That is indisputable, and you would be an idiot to argue it, etc. He is entirely right that he doesn’t like over scripted games. You are entirely right that you do.

I just finished playing Black Ops. I thought it was pretty good. Campaign had a interesting story, and zombies was fun. Always is. They changed ALOT in zombies, apart from weapons. your right, the ending kinda sucked.
I couldn’t beleive you met Resnov in this game, and that Dimitri gets killed. That Russian dude was a faggot…

I’ve been reading about all the problems Black Ops has been having for PC and was wondering if any of you guys knew if they’ve been resolved at all?

I’m considering buying it from a friend of mine, he decided he didn’t want it after his dad bought it for him for his birthday, and he’s willing to let it go for 20 bucks. However, I don’t really want to pay anything for what I’ve read is “unplayable.”

Is it worth it on PC or should I hold out for it on consoles, if at all?

There’s a new patch coming soon, so maybe it’s best to wait for that and see if it makes it better.

Personally, I haven’t found any major faults with it in all the times I played it.

Well, My lag has decreased. I now have a constant ping of 100. And every once and a while I get a lag-free day for no understandable reason. Wager matches are incredibly fun and the campaign is good for one playthrough, but other than that the game just really isn’t worth playing. I’d go for the pc version because, from what I understand, there is now only a small percentage of people, including me, who still have problems with black ops.

Thanks for your help guys!

Also, Steam doesn’t always cooperate with me… if I were to install the game without using Steam would you guys happen to know if I’d need the disc in my drive to play it everytime?

Bad Company 2 and most other PC games that I play only require the disc for install, but I know some games still haven’t quite caught up with the times.

Sure if you want to download it off steam which will take 20 hours then do it.

Black Ops requires Steam. It will probably install from the disk and then update through Steam. After that it’s effectively just another Steam game and doesn’t require the disk in to play.

D’oh. Well I bought it from my friend and tried to install it… turns out the key was already in use because my friend HAD installed it. He can’t deactivate it and despite my having the scan of the code, Steam won’t transfer the key because of the lack of the sales receipt, which he stupidly threw away.

Such a shame. Out 20 bucks and now I have a paperweight.

At least I do have the paperweight, I suppose.

Thanks for all the info though, guys!

Get your money back!

I would but my friend is going away on holiday starting tomorrow and then studying abroad for a semester. It’s unlikely I’ll see him for quite some time and by then I’m sure I’ll have forgotten, hahaha.

I know a guy who bought it, but he wasn’t happy with it and returned it to get his money back.
It was the steam version.
