I was wondering if anyone could suggest any good black and white movies. I like comedies but action is good too. Preferably movies with witty conversions as that is what I like most about black and white movies.
Pi
Clerks
Eraserhead
The Thirty-Nine Steps is supposed to be a good one, but I’ve never seen it myself.
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Dr. Strangelove: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Young Frankenstein.
“That’s Fronkunsteen.”
On the topic, see ‘Ed Wood’, it is was made in the 90s, but was made in black and white as a homage to Ed Wood.
12 angry men, citizen kane, casablanca
All quiet on the Western Front.
Schindler’s List, Clerks, Ed Wood, Dr. Strangelove, Metropolis.
This one.
Lolita
Pretty much anything on TCM
THIS!
Definatly this
The Night of the Living Dead
Sin city
But seriously. 12 angry men.
And, even though it’s not B&W, the original Taking of pelham 123 is fucking awesome.
i’ll suggest The General (silent comedy)
the beginning and end of Stalker (philosophy)
and another vote for recent’s low budget Pi (freaky)
Since you prefer conversation, I can’t really suggest much of the silent b&w agitprop I’ve seen…
was The Crow actually black and white or just really desaturated? i forget.
You guys all suck. With the exception of Tiki, all of your movies are from the 60s on. You do realize movies were being made for like, 60, 65 years before that, right? And they were ALL black and white?
Most Billy Wilder films, Grand Hotel, Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, anything with Buster Keaton (One Week is particularly fantastic), any Marx Brothers flick (I personally like Duck Soup the best, but Coconauts is a close second- these are good for that fast paced, witty dialogue), and so on and so forth. But those should be a good starting place.
Films were made BEFORE the 60s? Surely not.
