I was not a fan of Beyond Black Mesa. To think that people would call this a fan film while totally ignoring both the canon and the art-direction of the Half-Life games is pretty unforgiveable.
Fan films thrive on fan service, and by fan service I don’t mean tits in anime, I mean nods to the game for fans to enjoy.
Though I could commend this for taking the basics of Half-Life and creatively interpreting them, it simply was far too different, and far too mindless.
And quite frankly, sword-fighting Combine Soldiers and 28 Days Later-style running zombies don’t belong in anything Half-Life. Either slap a headcrab on them and have them run like the feral, ferocious Fast Zombies, or don’t include them.
This film worries too much about the look and not enough about characters and actually emulating the tone of the games. At no point did I feel the desperation of these resistance fighters. Simple as that.
Not gonna start filming till summer I’m afraid, I do have a job which requires my attention.
In the process of scripting. It will more than likely be a film about how everything was just before the Seven Hour War so when Xen creatures were being spawned on Earth and Portal storms everywhere.
Also we may go over budget by a tiny bit (by like £10-£20) but my point will remain valid.
Props are being aquired as we speak, Headcrab hats are better than no headcrabs.

Kinda how I feel Battle: Los Angeles is going to be.
I dunno why, but that film makes me think of skyline…and skyline was terrible
Probably the fact that the directors Skyline own the FX company that worked on Battle: Los Angeles.
Beyond Black Mesa is the gayest thing ever.

WHY DONT YOU try running around with a headcrab and not hitting a wall? and besides real life headcrbs are hard to make.
But it’s impressive. And I hope the creators get some job offers for their great work. Just because it doesn’t really belong to Half Life it doesn’t have to be bad.
Just make sure you have a fat guy that dies first
