Best looking game you've ever played?

Team Fortress 2.

Hmm… I vaguely remember playing some artistically beautiful games, but they weren’t all that memorable…

Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 are some of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played.

Zelda Windwaker. Prince of Persia 2008 and Red Steel 2 had some amazing cel-shaded graphics.

And also - Jet Set Radio, the game was so fun, it’s gotta be one of the most colorful games in existence.

Tension/The Void was pretty nice too

Well it used to. Then all this ADS and prone, brown bloom bullshit fad swept across every platform of a generation. Halo remained the same, and therefore stopped being generic and started being retro.

Medal of Honor is generic. Call of duty is Generic. I don’t give a fuck what anyone says, Crysis is the most generic thing I’ve ever seen. Don’t talk to me about generic.

Fuck. In a genre as limiting as the FPS, what ISN’T generic? You can mix it up with other elements like Fallout 3 or borderlands, but first person combat is first person combat is first person combat. No 2 ways around it.

Kinda why I made this thread. I need a break from the brown, dirty horseshit everyone’s doing now. I need color. I need suggestions.

Like I said - if you want color, try Jet Set Radio or Super Mario Galaxy (or any other Nintendo game at that). I hate how “brown” most games are starting to look… I also remember how Uncharted made fun of Gears by including the “Next Gen Filter” feature, which makes the whole game gray/brown.

Indeed, that was awesome.

This

I have no idea how can they call that “realistic”. I go outside and I see colours. Everything looks sharp, no fog. When I turn my head there is no blur. Dirt never gets on my eyeballs. Realistic my ass.

On a side note, I’ve also read about The Void. I’ve never played it but I guess I’ll try it. It is said to be fantastic if you can get into the gameplay.

That’s actually a problem with you. Because we see motion blur. That’s just how we work.

Maybe your eyes are superhuman?

Whats wrong with red dead?

True, we do see motion blur, but our eyes are so used to it, we barely notice it at all, and not like in some games, where you turn slightly, and you get blur like you are being spun non-stop, I can understand realistic, but that’s going a bit too far.

I’m still a bit surprised about Call of Duty and other FPS’s where blood splatter gets in your face when you’re hit. I’ve yet to see a single person hold his/her eyes wide open with water (let alone blood) being in their eyes.

Graphically games have advanced in a great direction in some aspects, but in others - it feels like they’re just widening the gap again by trying to be ultra-realistic.

You just made me retest that. And yes, turning my head still does not produce blur. Turning 360* as fast as possible does cause slight disorientation and dizziness though…

Superhuman eyes, eh? I like the sound of that! :retard:

Sure, it may look pretty gray, but it’s still amazing how much color they put out with what they had to work with… the wild west… an area surrounded by nothing but dessert/savanna… well, maybe even with the effort there’s not much color there, but hey - at least the sky’s pretty blue!

I like colorful and stylised worlds like TF2 or Zelda: Windwaker.

But I have to give my best looking game to the original Gears of War. Lets face it, its the game that created the whole roid-monkey looking character fad so you really can’t take away points for that since it was the original one. However what I really like is the stylized art in the other direction of most other visually distinctive games.

What it comes down to for me was Gears of War was wonderfully desaturated colors and gritty. It created a nice atmosphere of post wartime and Armageddon. Most other games don’t stylize in the opposite direction with a lack of color.

I actually liked Gear’s design. The architecture is beautiful, and the creature design is pretty decent. Too bad the humans themselves look like creatures. though it was only bearable on the vibrant setting. I raged when it was taken out in 2. I’m glad 3 has some color. I hate the sleeveless thin in gears 3. It would be nice if only a few characters did it, but fucking EVERYONE is doing it. Also, what’s with the rigging? It’s like they didn’t even pay attention to the armpits at all.

There are games that do it quite well. The post 06 source engine’s default settings for one. Bungie seems to have it down pat to where the blur only affects the sides of the screen.

Everyone else fucks it up though. Especially in AVP3. Unreal engine games have a nice balance, but the MB itself looks like shit.

This is all Off topic :frowning:

To be honest, I’m the kind of person who usually overlooks ‘brown’ looking games if the gameplay (and sometimes story) is good. But I digress.

Anybody played the HD Serious Sam games? They look pretty good, and have color filter thingies in the video options. You tweak those, and you can even play the game in black and white, or in extremely vibrant colors.

I think Uncharted 1 and 2 looks pretty damn good. A good variety of colors and it has a lot of small details in the artwork.

Uh did you mix your images up. BM is pretty heavily stylized compared to DE remake

Wow, look at him go.

Back on subject:
I have to say the flat out most jaw-droppingly gorgeous game I’ve played is Just Cause 2.
It has such vibrant landscapes and scenery and everything is alive with bright colours.
Sometimes I just like to drive through the jungle on a motorcycle or climb to the top of a mountain and absorb the work and outcome of the designers. Stuff like that is like a masturbatory aid for my retinas.

Also, I’m seconds away from going downstairs to play Red Dead Redemption while listening to Ennio Morricone. We’ll see how that compares.

Well, if we are going to use Sci-fi, Crysis’ aliens and their areas were incredible.

Prince of persia: The sands of time

I just loved all the different environments in this game. Atmospheric stuff. Not liking the newer ones that much though.

Also, the original prince of persia:
