Best and worst moments in gaming history

Best: Final Fantasy VII comes to mind. Its the source of a lot of arguments, and true Square Enix has pumped out masses of shit lately, but Final Fantasy VII represented both the Final Fantasy series and the PlayStation console’s prime. I also think it should be remade, it had a better story and a bigger fanbase then any of the recent Final Fantasy titles. And considering so many people want it to be remade, it would be career suicide for the leaders at Square NOT to remake it.

Worst: When I read/watch reviews/videos of people discussing the Half-Life series and calling the gameplay “dated”. Iron sights and regenerative health do not make a shooter “modern”, and its sad to see people in the industry make comments like this.

That said, Half-Life 1’s gameplay is fairly dated.

Best: Half-life 2

Worst: Modern Warfare 2

Battlefield (Bad Company and all) and CoD games are completely different games… Actually i might add that to the “worst-list”: When people compare CoD and Battlefield.

Why do so many people hate Call of Duty and Halo? I will admit that since CoD 4 and Halo 2 the series have declined somewhat, but other than that why do they hate them so much? Is it because they are geared towards casual gamers? Is it because they aren’t niche games that only appeal to a few thousand gamers? Or is it perhaps because they have made tons of money? And don’t just respond with “because they suck”, because that isn’t a good enough answer. Give me a detailed explanation as to why you think they suck so much. Please help me understand your point of view, because I personally enjoy CoD and Halo. Well, with CoD its more about the campaign for me, I hate the multiplayer. MW2’s campaign wasn’t very good, but all the other campaigns were fun. I will agree that Halo: Reach’s campaign was a bit lacking, but I still enjoyed it.

The reason the majority of us hate CoD is because it represents the most shallow example of game design, it has a flimsy narrative and bland gameplay.

Bland gameplay on its own doesn’t quite justify the hate. Half-Life 2’s core concept is to take a gun and shoot a bunch of guys, but it does that extremely well and with many little unique design elements.

There are certain things I actually think are pretty neat about Call of Duty, but it’s the sum of a whole lot of incredibly minor things, like the controls for your gun; the moment you are able to take a new action after reloading is signalled by the ammo count updating, and a click of the gun’s magazine settling in place all at once. You can tap the ironsight button while reloading, and you’ll automatically aim the moment you finish reloading. You can cancel any action and switch weapon, knife someone, throw a grenade, or start sprinting at any time. Those all sound basic, but a bunch of shooting games always seem to miss those little basic elements. I’m all for a new and innovative game, but there’s still something to be said about tuning a certain type of game to perfection over a series of titles. (even if that perfection doesn’t come from broad, overarching concepts like the multiplayer modes and the storyline)

The worst moment in gaming history was when I got my steam account stolen.

Best: The creation of RTS genre aka Dune II
Worst: he shutdown of Ensemble & Pandemic studios

Yea well the first modern warfare was great, who didnt like it???
But even with all the little things the matter in a game, it starts to get boring when its basically the same gameplay and graphics over and over again(all of the cods after cod4). I haven’t played cod in so long now, i cant stand the boringness anymore :fffuuu:

Best: Creation of home gaming.

Worst: Aeris dies :frowning:

How is Operation Flashpoint casual gaming? That was some complicated shit before you actually get to grips with it. Quite the learning curve for a casual gamer.

This is going to point out how old I am, but the best point in gaming was the first generation of PC gaming. It was all about creativity and fans of the medium making games relating to what they were passionate about. EA was a boon to the computer gaming world out to prove that gaming could be an artistic and creative outlet.

There is a few worst moments for me. First would be the death of the epic space shooters like X-Wing, and Tie Fighter. Last good space shooter ( and it was only okay ) was Freespace 2. The death of the great game development companies is another low point for me. Companies like Sierra, New World Computing, Interplay, and so on. These companies made some of my most treasured old game, and now they are gone and the franchises they started were ran into the ground ( Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Heroes of Might and Magic, the early Star Trek games, MDK ).

World needs more fast paced space shooters. Seems like an untapped market.

Lol, maybe some more open-world shooters would be nice.

Best ever: Super Mario Bros 3 ending

Worst: The infinity ward scandal. God damn Activision.

Best: Quake’s 3D models (instead of sprites) and Half Life…or maybe Super Mario.
Worst: Atari’s E.T. and Pac-Man for the 2600/VCS. See also the Video Game Crash of 1983.

It has ALWAYS been this way. Long before PS3’s and 360’s existed. I remember when people would talk the same shit about the N64 and PS1.

You have the lowest standards for greatest I have ever seen.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
