Ask an Atheist!!!

As said before, the natural lifespan of a human is about 30-40. All the crap like dementia, menopause, arthritis is just a result of us exceeding our natural lifespan.

I’m sure there are a lot of creatures who experience a rapid period of growth after birth. In fact, compared to other mammals, humans develop quite slowly and are dependant on parental support for most of their child years. Compare this two creatures like dogs and lions who can be out living for themselves in a year.

That was a joke. Appearances indicate it misfired.
But… dementia and arthritis both can happen WAY before even 20.
And no, I can’t think of any other creatures growth that’s as uneven as a humans.
This could be because other animals develop more before birth: I really wouldn’t know.

:hmph:

That’s more of a system failure, compared to wear and tear (age). Both can cause problems in joints and the brain.

I do not see how that is any sort of argument against the evolution of man or again atheism.

Also, there’s some sort of bug that burrows in the earth for like 17 or whatever years before it comes out to live for one day.

How’s that for growing slowly and living shortly.

:ninja:

Cicada young, I believe.

You want to see a stupid animal just look up the dodo bird.

I have created a topic for this creationism/intelligent design/evolution discussion. Can we steer this back to atheism now?

Please?

Aren’t you a christian?

Who?

What if God created natural selection?

Nah it was the giant spaghetti monster.

Also natural selection was not created at all.

Which is why this thread is pointless–everyone has their own definition, their own belief of what God did and didn’t do.

My belief is that God created space and time, in other words, our universe–that includes everything inside it that could possibly occur. Saying natural selection wasn’t created is like saying mathematics wasn’t created–math wasn’t created by man, it’s just there, present in nature. But if you believe God created the very nature which mathematics and natural selection come from…

We must first define God in the context of this thread. You and I obviously have different views about what God did, and I’m sure other people in this thread have different views even further.

Actually, man created the concept of mathematics. The same applies to time. They are both inventions to describe what exists.

Never thought of it that way, actually.

You’re right, though, they did create the concept. What I meant about mathematics being in nature was that it would make sense, even for a caveman, to understand that if he has an apple, and another apple, that’s more than just an apple, if you get what I’m saying.

An example of inventing knowledge would be C++ or programming languages, but I guess you can argue that was a part of nature too.

Then what?

I don’t have a different view of what god did I say there is no god.

There is no evidence to even warrant an assumption that god exists.

You :hmph:

No, I am not a christian.
I think there is a god. I think he was drunk–or whatever god’s equivalent is-- when he created the universe. I think he also has a really perverted sense of humor.
I also think we’re the equivalent of his illegitimate children: he was so drunk when he made us, he doesn’t even know we are here. I also believe in an afterlife.

And that’s the extent of my religious belief.

That’s the most stupid thing I have ever heard.
