Are the Xen Thumpers for the same puerpose as the Combine ones?

So we know from a few posts ago that antlions lived in Xen. I guess the most pressing issue would be to deliberate whether they lived in the wild or in captivity. If they lived in captivity, the thumpers couldn’t have been for them. But if they did live in the wild, then maybe they were.

I’m leaning to think antlions lived in the wild in Xen. I mean, all the structures you see in Xen are factories, right? Maybe that’s all there is. Xen has this whole wild vibe around it. Even Gargantuas (whether tamed or fabricated) are left to frolic around. I can’t picture a set of cubicles for antlion care somewhere in Xen. After all, a Nihilanth in exile wouldn’t really care to play farmville with antlions… right?

Natural antlion colonies would seem to make much more sense. And with this line of thought, and having in mind how dangerously homicidal and overwhelming antlions can be, xenian thumpers are very, very believable, don’t you think?

Vortigaunts describe themselves as antlion “shephards,” implying that they tend to the creatures in a free-range way similar to chickens or sheep.

Uh the thumpers could be made for don’t let the antlions scape from the ‘‘Farming zone’’ too or to don’t let the antlion guard approach to it.

I didn´t know that, thanks for tell me that. ^^ But are you agree with me that without Valve and their informations and by using only Half life saga you can´t think easily that the combine came from other world? I see which that perspective could explain a little more better all the story XD. But you should remember that Nihilanth was modificated like the Post-Humans or maybe he was bild by the combine only like a way, in any case, to maintain open the portal of Black mesa and for maintain controled the slaves vortigaunts, that I still thinking that, they are from Xen like the Ant-Lions, headcrabs , synths , etz. All this species, therefore , except the Advisors that they are from the combine world , was controled ,then, for the combine since they arrived to Xen probably by accident like us by the yellow cristals and their own teleportation technology.

REMEMBER that the only reason they went to XEN is to escape the Combine Empire! So probably the Vorts left their flock in their home world. It was 1995 when Nihilanth’s race retreated to XEN. About 5 years before the resonance cascade so 5 years is not enough to establish much technology or to farm antlions. So there were no antlions in XEN.

I don’t know if there are any native Xen species at all but, instead, was terraformed by the Nihilanthians* that came to escape the Combine. Also, how do you know they retreated to Xen in 1995?

XD Sorry for my ortography and for my english. I am from Spain and I dont know the english names of all that species except in spanish ( for example antlions=Hormigas león ^^ ) but usually I try to write well. I think that the vortigaunts , synths and grunts are slaves from Xen. And I think that all this kind of aliens have been modificated like the post-humans with the technology from the combine. But ,I am agree with the posibility about of this 2 last species, that probably was make completly by the combine like the strikers. Well, maybe I´m wrong but is my opinion and by the moment I haven´t saw anything on half life that could indicate other posibility.

In any case the vorts said you in half life 2 that they was aunder control a lot of time, so, I think that they were invaded by the combine. So, if they are from Xen and they have herded antlions, then, antlions are from Xen and probably the thumpers from Xen are there to maintain the antlions far away to the grunts and to the synths. But I repeat is my personal opinion XD but I think that by using only the half life infomation all this have a lot of sense by the moment.

EDIT: fix’d the word striders and there were no synths in hl1 'cause synths have robotic parts of the body and the agrunts got an armor no robotic parts.

I’m sure that’s completely fake. Also I think the antlions are originally from Xen, the Nihilianth’s death portals only opened up in:
-Xen.
-A planet under combine control.
-Earth.

The antlions had just filmed Starship Troopers, that’s why you don’t see them on Half-Life. Duh!

Thanks again for puting striders in my post XD and yeaah sorry I had a terrible mistake I don´t know why but when I spoke you about the synths I was thinking all the time in aliens controllers this ones I think that were modificate like the grunts and vorts like the post humans basically because they are too inteligence to be only organics machines and I think that the combine used the aliens controllers to design Nihilanths body, thats all. I have searched synths on line and you are right this ones only have appeared on Half life 2 on the citadel. I hope to see this little bastards in action ^^.

Now returning to threat: I have a little question: couldn’t be those thumpers some kind of security to stop the race-X (seen in oppossing force) to attack Xen? I mean as how you can see they teleport though Xen portals to earth and they are enemies of the Xenians. That could be some kind of security sistem against them or against the shock roaches (wich are like ants) of the shock troopers.
