ZuneHD

Discuss.

My brother bought one and I am using it right now.
It doesn’t have very many apps but audiosurf tilt is far better than any iPod app I have seen. It has a higher resolution screen. its accelerometer is faster. It is smaller and better looking and has more intuitive interface. Ms is planning on adding flash support. Comes in several different colors. Cool minor things like quickplay and a screensaver like thing when in now playing.

Cons:
No external speakers, less apps, can’t watch online videos yet. Doesn’t come in a 64 gigabyte version. Smaller screen. Doesn’t work as well online as itouch.

I have a touch, I want a zune. This is pretty much right. I’ll probably get one of the next generation ones when they come out - just so they can iron out all of the problems.

More pros:
OLED screen (brighter with better colors, harder to break)
The Zune software is way better than iTunes, although that’s not really saying much.
Zune Pass
Much more powerful, hardware wise (Tegra)
Can output 720p video to a TV(with a special dock… costs extra :meh

One more con:
there’s a side button that brings up playback controls, but no dedicated volume rocker like the touch has.

One correction, though: 320x480 (iPod resolution) > 480x272 (Zune resolution)

That’s not to say that the Zune screen seems lower resolution, the Zune screen is a little smaller, as is the rest of the Zune.

The screen looks awesome too, the blacks are intense. It blows my mind. Can’t wait until there is more support for it.

Isn’t getting a Zune like saying “I COULD get one of these Maseratis, Ferraris or Lamborghinis, but instead I’ll go with this Skoda. Because, you know, its got four wheels and stuff”.

No, not really…

widespread use and fanboys != better

Yeah just so you all know the Zune is cancelled. They arent going to make many more. There will be no second gen. The department has been reorganized reprioritized and moved. Doing something very different now.

:fffuuu:

By “very different,” you mean…?

Umm… how much can I say?
Windows Mobile + Xbox Marketplace + Zune departments are all working TOGETHER now on a new product.

I doubt this very very much. May I see your source of this information?

Yeah… links or it didn’t happen.

Just asked my brother who is a Zune nut and he said that’s a really old rumor that’s been around since before the ZuneHD came out.

Sorry I’m double posting, I’m just not sure that this thread will show up as having new posts if I just edit my old post.

I’m with my aunt and she has a mac and a first-gen ipod touch she’s never used so she asked me to show her how to use it. so, it turns out that first gen ipod touches need an update to play most new apps that costs 5 dollars. It’s ridiculous, 5 dollars for an update. And, my brother has his zuneHD so we got to put the two side by side, Ipod touch is counter intuitive, difficult, and has a terrible screen compared to the zuneHD, and, You have to pay for your updates. Now mac can’t even keep up with Microsoft in it’s own market.

I got the 3.1 update for free. Questionably legal, but in my book charging for an update is questionably legal…

I find it ironic that mac fanboys always talk about the evils of microsoft while Steve Jobs is charging for updates and selling low end laptops for over $1000.

I’ve noticed a trend with the two companies, mac does it first, Microsoft does it better.

Oh Christ, not this again.

Yes, Apple products cost a little more. Yes, Microsoft shamelessly rips off Apple’s ideas. No, Microsoft does not do it better.

Now, I haven’t used a ZuneHD, so you’ll have to forgive the lack of basis for a comparison, but I think there’s a bit of an anti-Apple slant in this particular thread. The iPod Touch is anything but counter intuitive or difficult to use. In fact, its downright simple. The keyboard is fantastic, the web browser is the best I’ve seen on a handheld device, and everything works seamlessly.

And yes, you have to pay for updates. Big whoop. Given that a lot of people use the iTunes store for movies, TV shows, music, games and apps, its hardly a large inconvenience. That said, its a little stingy of Apple to do that, but eh, I wouldn’t complain.

So the Zune HD can give you 720p video and output to an even higher resolution (if you buy the dock, of course). So what? Would you even notice the quality difference? On a screen that small? You’ve gotta be joking.

The battery life difference and just about every other difference in specifications is negligible, with the exception of the screen, which is a tad smaller on the Zune HD.

But okay, the Zune HD has pros, and its somewhat more technologically advanced than its iPod counterpart. But touting it as the next great saviour is wrong. Its good, but not earth-shattering.

Microsoft does everything better, that’s my opinion, lets not argue it, we’ll argue for ever.

Put a ZuneHD and ipod touch side by side. You will never even want to look at an ipod touch again. The ipod screen is a joke compared to the Zune.

The internet browser on the ipod touch is better, that’s not what I find counter intuitive. First, the way everything is oriented as a massive list of icons is stupid. On the ZuneHD there is a simple organization of everything on the Zune. You choose from a menu of internet, apps, music, videos and a few more. On the ipod things like music are jumbled around with apps. Also, itunes, like iphoto, is idiotic and extremely counter intuitive. Everything is very jumbled and annoying. I spent about an hour trying to help my aunt figure the stupid thing out. Zune software actually makes sense.

Also, I am not entirely biased, before my brother bought his ZuneHD I used to think Ipodtouch was better, but after seeing the ZineHD in person I instantly changed my mind. You really can’t fully understand the merits of a ZuneHD without looking at it side by side with an ipodtouch. Also, IDGAF about 720p or HD radio, but I still greatly prefer the Zune.

Why not? Its an internet forum, its what we do here.

Look, I’m not trying to hold Apple up as the King of the Computer Realm and proclaim it perfect in all ways. Its not. But after spending 18 years on a PC and finally buying a Mac, there’s no way I’m going back.

What, organising music into artists is counter-intuitive now?

I use iTunes for everything, even before I had an iPod. Its a little clunky speed-wise, but its polished and intuitive enough to make sorting, organising and playing music easy, rather than a chore like it is in WMP (or at least used to be, I haven’t tried the latest version after obtaining said iPod).

If you didn’t know, you can actually organise your icons on the iTouch however you want. My girlfriend has the first page for essentials (like contacts, maps, etc), the next page for internet-related stuff (like Facebook, FML, etc), the next page few pages for games…etc. So its not just a ‘massive list of icons’, it can be organised however you want, even like its done on the Zune.

Or you could just put music as the first icon on the first page. Or not, whichever you want.

Eh, its new technology. Its always going to look better. I’d be interested to see whether the next iTouch improves the screen.

Ahh.
You wont find that kinda news online.
A very good friend of mine worked on the Zune and told me about how everything is changed and he has been relocated and everything.
So its legit.

My mom has a Mac, it sucks. Macs give you a little more security at the sacrifice of functionality.

Whether or not you organize your iPod it’s still less simply and easy as navigation on a Zune.

Itunes is horrible but I’m on a ZuneHD right now so I’m not going to explain. Try zune software.

To make the iPod screensaver good as Zune’s they’d have to change lot. ZuneHD’s screen is better because it is oled not lcd.
