Sound good, if the quantum gravity has already improved.
But it haven’t been improved yet,even though it has taken an afford for a century.
We can’t control the direction of gravity field, gravity force is act on every matters,all direction. So, every matter act on the object too. How could this gravity gun remove these forces by this zero-point energy theory? It can just exert the force on the object, push or pull it.

Furthermore, until now, we have no idea about gravitational force. The best theory about it that i have known is dark matter-energy ideas that has negative-sign of mass and energy or something like that. It yield that dark matter push together…if i don’t miss, i’ve never spend time on it.

However,protest me if i missed something[/SIZE] :smiley:

Quantum mechanics are formulated in an abstract Hilbert space that obeys to laws much like the ones know from the usual R^3. This includes the Schwarz inequality. Heisenberg’s uncertainty relation is a direct consequence of this inequality AND NOT A POSTULATE, but a consequence of 6 to 8 postulates of quantum mechanics. And according to this principle, every quantum system has a minimum kinetic energy greater than zero. This is called the zero point energy.

In quantum field theories, like the very succesful quantum electrodynamics, we try to explain the fundamental forces like electromagnetism by quantizing the fields known from the classical theories (like classical electrodynamics). But unlike electrodynamics, we still are not able to formulate a valid quantum field theory for gravity (which would imply a particle called the graviton).

In conclusion, I have no idea how a zero point energy manipulator could achieve tasks the gravity gun is able to perform, nor what a zero point energy field manipulator is. I’m not into quantum field theories (not yet :wink: ), but I doubt that the zero point energy is in any way related to controlling gravity (by emitting gravitons, postulated by a hypothetical quantum field theory for gravity).

nope, physics student, and in popular science, you usually just (crappily) explain what the uncertainty relation is about, but you actually cannot understand it unless you formulate it mathematically. For example, In German popular science, it is often explained as the lack of ability to simultaneously measure two quantities without !theoretical! limitations to precision. This is !almost! completely wrong actually, but that’s something you usually don’t learn if you just read some popular science magazines. Even in some experimental physics courses, you don’t really learn it; you have to go for the theory…and now comes Gordon again :wink:

I finished reading the wikipedia entry (it took a long time to look up all those words) and at the end it said that the repulsive part of the effect works best on fluids. Using the new technology for the goo in Portal 2, I wonder if Valve will allow you to shoot water with the super gravity gun. :smiley:
