Wait, that’s still going on? I thought that ended a while ago. It’s classified as a dwarf planet or something of that sort atm (I think).

It’s mostly academic - astronomers and scientists need a consensus on what classifies as a planet and what doesn’t.

But for the layperson, it really shouldn’t matter. I guess it does to some people because it’s ‘what they were taught in school’ - nostalgia really.
