Xen Scientist

I figured this would be the best place to come and ask about this. It’s been bothering me ever since I found it years ago. When fighting the Nihilanth it transports you to different sections of Xen, one having water underneath, a few Vortigaunts and a Gargantuan. If you use the jump pads, you can throw yourself up onto a ledge high up on the wall where there is sat a scientist without an HEV suit.

Never have I found any explanation as to why he is there, whether it’s just a little easter egg joke or just an anomaly. I wondered if perhaps anyone could shed some light on it for me.

It could be that he accidentely got there. You know there are lots of portals in Lambda Core.

Well yes thankyou, i’ve already thought of that theory along with many others, like I said it’s been bugging me for years. I just wondered if anyone had any new information on it I haven’t found yet. It’s so weird and out of place I need a factual explanation, call me obsessed.

Hazzmat pretty much said it. And I doubt there is any need to think about it THAT much :stuck_out_tongue:

agree got to be an accidental telaport, if it was delbrate he’d have a hazzrd suite for starts

he is a GHOST!

No, when accident happen, Xen portal just teleport him there in accident.

Yes, like Headcrabs were accidentally teleported to Earth.

It’s not that illogical.

so people CAN breathe on xen :-?

Gordon did’nt have a helmet, Barney did’nt have a helmet, Shepard’s gasmask probably does not create oxygen, only filter stuff…
Why did’nt you figure this out? Silly iKY… :freeman:

Probably. Too bad Blue Shift isn’t officially considered cannon, because Barney was breathing on Xen with no problems.

To JeffMOD Opposing Force and Blue Shift are not officially cannon, so you can’t use em as an example.

Too bad Half-Life is officially considered canon, because Gordon was breathing on Xen with no problems.

I remember an old thread about this. Some people believed Gordon had a helmet, others believed he didn’t have one.
Either way it’s not that important, seeing how “that” scientist was able breath on Xen. The dead H.E.V. scientists, probably worn helmets, because they didn’t know what to expect on Xen.

yes i was kind of responding to the argument that despite the fact that in op-for and in blu-shift they breathe on xen , it can’t be possible since they are not official , but this is like , proof from valve that you can… , or at least , could

Or maybe some developer stuck the scientist in for the lulz?

You people are over analyzing things.

no , we most likely tend to ease the job of valve of explaining all the random shit they threw in half life 1 , at the time ,after i finished the game without any expectations for a second one , i didn’t even knew it had a story , as i went older i tried to make sense of all that shit … , i think at the time vorts ware just an excuse at the time for things-to-shoot-at …

yeah in 1998 a company nobody heard ever before was traing to make a game before they run out of money, im pretty sure they didnt have any story then and are making shit up now as they go;f
the scientist was probably for the lulz ;d

That scientist there is “Health” for Gordon if Gordon hurt real bad.

Like your mom.
Wow that was an epic fail.

perhaps people arn’t thinking about the vortigaunts, headcrabs houndeyes and bullsquids that teleport into an oxegen filled enviroment. if xen had no oxegen, then when any of the aliens transfered through then there is a good chance that they would have all just droped dead because of lack of whatever xen had or way to much oxegen.

but as blue pointed out: there is no air on xen OR in the black mesa research facility as it is a game.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
