Xen Scientist

Well theres heaps of Nitrogen in our atmosphere but WE never use it. Bullsquids, vorts, etc. probably wouldnt die of oxygen-overpoweringness.

But im still confuzzled about the Xen atmosphere.

They breath nitrogen! :retard:

Xen’s atmosphere is heavily nitrogen based, with little oxygen. Xen lifeforms come to Earth and can still thrive on the Nitrogen that our atmosphere contains.

Xen lifeforms came to Earth because the portals opened.
I think anyway, unless theres a source or something saying other wise.

  1. Humans can breathe on Xen. That scientist proves it. Blue Shift and Opposing Force just add icing on the cake.

  2. Gordon wears a helmet. Must be so, or else he would’nt survive. The hazard suit we wears is for withstanding extreme radiation and poison levels, as well as direct hits from solid objects. They wouldn`t even let him into the test chamber without his helmet. The Sector C scientists might have been doing sloppy work all day long, but not THAT sloppy. Safety standards were still to be considered. In Episode I, Gordon’s head would get cooked if he wore no helmet. Entering the citadel core with deadly levels of radiation all around, he would be dead in a matter of moments.
Yes, the Gordon multiplayer model is not wearing a helmet, and yes, no artwork ever shows him wearing a helmet. This is because the artwork is not to show you some anonymous guy, but a face to be recognized. Often artworks show Gordon only with a crowbar, despite him having a full arsenal available in the game. Along with a lifesaving helmet. Period.
And yes, the model of the hazard suit in the locker room does not include a helmet. Still, Gordon without helmet would not survive the game. He would die of radiation or poisoning.

Seeing as how you consider Opposing Force and Blue Shift cannon, you’d think he doesn’t wear a helmet.

  • Gordon jumps through the portal in Op4 without a helmet.
  • You see him being dragged by the grunts without a helmet.
  • Barney survives being shot in the face.
  • It’s a god-damn videogame.

If they’d show Gordon with a helmet, we would have no idea it is him.

So, we all know he has one, but he should never appear with his helmet on :stuck_out_tongue:

His beard could easily compensate for the lack of helmet, too

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone on the basis of this argument, but how would the lack of helmet give you any idea that the person is Gordon? All you see is the back of his head and someone wearing an HEV suit.

If I understand Dias’ point correctly, he’s right. If you try and take artwork, Opposing Force, Blue Shift or even the game itself as evidence, then you inevitably take into account several other factors which you then have to believe as canon, or at the very least consider. It’s a dead end.

That helmet still wouldn’t save Gordon from some place which contains no oxygen. By the looks of it the helmet only filters air. The suit would have to carry oxygon in order for Gordon to survive and I don’t think the suit was meant for that.

People can breathe in Xen. Gordon doesn’t wear a helmet.

:FFFUUU: :FFFUUU: :FFFUUU:

What.

He doesn’t wear a helmet, and regular people can withstand Xen atmosphere. I don’t see why so much thought is invested in this.

Forget the helmet discussion. Its a different topic, one particularly frowned upon becuase of the emotions you guys have for your own opinion.

Of course you can breathe on Xen. There. That scientist is. End of story.

Lets get back on topic to how that scientist got there.
Im wondering if there is any section where he necessarily had to have a hazard suit on to get there? In my mind he is mister awesome guy who found a hiding space and manages to survive. Whenever I play, I always go up to him and tell him how good of a job he did, and that it will all be over soon. Then I kill the Nihilanth and ultimately him, and cry as I blast out that flying baby’s pyramid for a brain.

good for you , i think aliens dieing under the weight of too much air would be far fetched , also , how in duke nukem you could breathe in space? , also there is a queake3 map in which you are in space and you breathe :o

half life got realistic since hl2 , everything under that it’s just science fiction .

I guess it’s just like in Superman 4, when Nuclear Man carried that woman into space and she was breathing. Stuff like this, I didn’t give a fuck.

Polar opposites I know, but you see my point. Ys? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a fucking video game. You guys are reading way too much into this.

Also, saying that Gordon wears a helmet, but you never see him wearing it in every instance that you see him (concept art, box covers, other games, etc.) is a pretty flimsy argument.

He was part of an exchange programme with the University of Xen, we got to study aliens, they got to study humans. We had a hard time laying the groundwork for this kind of entrepreneurial collaboration, but once we found some common ground (we both despise anime) we really got started!

I dont have much to say on this matter. I remember the scientist this post was originally about, and yes I KIND OF had the same question…

but then the same thoughts came through my head as you can see above.

That… and this was too funny not to have repost.

EDIT

I have to add to the above real quick…

Barney survived a lot… considering I made sure to take any and all weapons and ammo from him… and what about the Fat One? I dont remember his name…

I consider OF and BS to both be viable (though I know its stated otherwise). If they werent, there wouldnt be so many ties with them. Thats just me though.

Good think I know you are all joking. Because otherwise I’d have to say you’re all total retards for claiming that the presence of a DEAD SCIENTIST on XEN proves that that SCIENTIST could breathe on Xen, thus proving that Xen atmosphere is breathable.

But as I said, I know you are joking by using short-circuited logic and fallacies

The scientist is not dead…

I’ll give you a chance to watch the video and edit your post :stuck_out_tongue:

When in Watchmen, Jon carry that woman to Mar and she can breath.
