I was just wondering about this after playing blue shift for the 3rd time in a row. In order to use the teleporting technology they had to use a special beckon in Xen in order to swing around it to your intended destination. Well when I was activating the beckon I noticed that there was a rather small generator there to power the beckon and that beckon was left on for 20+ years and in use for about 3 trips. So what if in ep3 you’re trying to teleport for whatever reason and the beckon is inactive and instead of swinging around you just end up crashing into Xen? What do you guys think? :retard:
Not going to happen.
Valve has broken from the original series. Characters are the same and the half-life 2 series is a continuation of the original plot, but the concept of the games are very very different. Xen doesn’t fit with the feel I believe Valve is trying to put out for half-Life 2 and on.
In Half Life 2, a technique exists to ‘emulate’ the Xen relay… thus not requiring the Xen relay for successful teleportation between Earth locations.

What the fuck is a beckon? It’s a verb, not a noun.
WHERES THE DAMN BEACON
OH I SEE IT
fix’d
Blueshift and Op4 is not considered cannon. Valve is not required to use it since it was made by Gearbox. That being said, they have managed to by pass Xen altogether which, as Mangled said, is because they are able to “emulate” a Xen Relay.
thats awesome.
rly?:freeman:
Even if people say that it’s continued on from there, I think there’s possibilities to return to some kind of Xen borderworld, even if it’s not as it once was. Remember, the Combines’ plans to bring in re-inforcements via the Super portal disappeared when it was destroyed, so now they wouldn’t have many other choices other than to cross through Xen in order to get here. Granted they have the technology to bypass Xen, but then that just went down the toilet. My guessing is that there could be a Xen type level, but it’s more likely that it would be in the Combines’ home world or cities which we got a glimpse at in the end of Half Life 2.
Are you Doug Lombardi? No. So don’t think you know everything. Going to Xen, perhaps on the way to some sort of Combine outpost or home world, would be an awesomely epic twist and something that I could see Valve realistically doing.
Valve’s marketing director? Did you mean Marc Laidlaw?
Xen probably won’t be back any time soon. Simply because it was the most bitched about part of Half-Life 1.
aww it wasnt that bad, although I do have a special place of hate reserved for the long jump module in my heart.
there will be no xen in ep3 im pretty dam sure. I bet we wont even leave earth.
and hl3 will take place on a full blown world (combine or vorts)
I bet xen has more importance than being a simple borderworld in the half-life universe.
where are combine come from?..
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
Gabe Newell’s Most Favoritest Gaem Evar is Super Mario 64. I’m sure they will try some sort of abstract platforming outside of Portal, and make it work (unlike Xen in HL1).
It does. G-man has interest in it, and after the events of half-life, he kinda controls it or something.
I sure hope I see Xen again at some point.
I’d rather go back to the “ruins” of the Black Mesa Facility!
