Xbox One Discussion Thread

So basically they decided to alienate their entire audience right now and replace their gaming console with a tv tuner?

I don’t pretend to know the inner-working of a mega-corporation butttt… whyyyyyyyy?

They don’t want to alienate gamers they want the console to be always-on so that Kinect could spy on your living room as part of the microsoft experience improvement program.

So, you’d best wear pants if you REALLY want to play this console.

The name is pretty dumb. Like, you’d wanna be a little more creative now, should you want to talk about the first XBOX.

OG Xbox, dawg.

You don’t need a steady internet connection, but your internet connection has to at least exist. (As in, it doesn’t care if the connection drops so long as it can communicate with the internet at least once per 24 hours)

Funny world we live in, no? Why even have an internet requirement at all if it only needs it once every so often?

Because Microsoft wants to prepare people for the age of cloud gaming (the entire UI and game experience rendered server-side and the console is just a cheap MPEG decoder/TV tuner). Why do you guys think they went from 20 000 servers to 300 000?

basically they want more control (read: they want it all) so that they can get your money more efficiently

I hope Microsoft fails in the console market this gen and Sega comes back next gen with a new console.

I’d totally buy a new SEGA product. Dreamcast is still the best console of all time.

Fuck yeah. Let’s break out some CRAAAAZY TAXIIIIIII.

i could have told you in like 1995 that dog scanning technology would be hella advanced one day but nobody would have listened

They laughed. They called you crazy. Well who’s laughing now?

Nobody? That was a hypothetical.

I can’t tell if you really took that seriously, or if you’re just extending the irony to new heights. I’m gonna give this a tentative “whoosh.”

We’re all joking here, are we not?

The next gen consoles, even the WiiU, are looking to be more GPU heavy than last gen was so this is kind of damning if true. The CPU is apparently identical to the PS4 as well and the RAM doesn’t have as much bandwidth.

Also

They should be making two consoles. One that does all this TV sports social networking nonesense, and one that’s mostly focused on straight-up singleplayer gaming but still with the option for multiplayer maybe with split screen support and an optional Xbox live subscription.

It doesn’t seem wise to be counting on this one system so much, anyway.

Edit: what if their strategy is to focus on PCs for singleplayer gaming and consoles for multiplayer and social stuff?

Dotard, I swear to god…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
