Fast paced, yes. Simple…hmmmm…the style maybe.
My take on HLDM was that all of the maps were rock solid (especially Bounce, my favorite), but what really made you keep coming back were the weapons. It had the first laser-guided rocket in multiplayer, that I can remember, and all the others were a total blast to use. The crossbow in the right (or wrong) hands could be viciously annoying, but other than that I had an insane amount of fun with HL1’s arsenal.

I think a lot of the things that made HL : DM good were the same things that were what made Q1 : DM good.
Straightforward gameplay, friendly and helpful people (hard to find someone who even says GG now, eh?) Well balanced and well designed maps, fast paced gameplay, and cool and powerful weapons. (Though HL’s arsenal is definitely more vast and way cooler than most of quake’s weapons - nothing beats that RL from quake though, and a 3 barreled nail shooter is pretty badass)
In many way’s I almost feel like HL mp was Q1’s semi-realistic counterpart. That’s why I would probably play BMS mp quite a bit. Though this could have something to do with them using the same engine + similar mechanics (gauss/Tau jumping is like rocket jumping, suit functions same as armor, etc.)
OK, maybe not exactly that style, but it sucks only having a crowbar when a random enemy guy has a tau cannon.

You have a pistol and that’s enaugh for a fresh spawned guy… just aim for the head. Pistol is accurate enaugh for that (click primary fire, secondary fire is completely inaccurate… but good in close firefights).
Making everybody spawn with good weapons wouldn’t make the game any better. You can see it when you play HL1:Sev Mod… No depth in gameplay… No tactics. Just brainless.
You must be one of these players who thinks Deathmatch is only crazy running and shooting… but it’s not that.
It’s about taking an advantage in equipment and arms and using that advantage by aggressive playstyle (frag and frag and frag and frag…) and if you don’t have the weapons, you have to concentrate and play careful and smart.
It’s like in Biathlon… If you are skilled (endurance, concentration and aiming), you get advantaged because you deserve it. If you aren’t skilled… then you get challenged and have to improve your style to something more efficient. It’s just that excitement in DM games to not make any faults. Even if you have the advantage… you can easily lose it again by playing unconcentrated and dumb.

Most people hate other people on multiplayer, and thus avoid it. As I see it, multiplayer is a chance for me to kill those other people, so I often look forward to it.
I was one of the freaks who got hooked on HL2: DM for many years , there was a mod of that game called HL2: DM pro which was basically HL: DM in the source engine it was really fast and incorparated the guass gun for insane jumps and speed boosts. Never really took off but I loved it.
What I’m hoping is that BM: DM will be a little like that, and therefore will be playing it and (no doubt) loving it.
The HL2 M scene in Australia at least was a close-knit community of mostly friendly folk always willing to help out a noobie with the finer aspects of the game (bunnyhopping, configs etc) hoping BM: DM will be like that too. Bit of a DM scene revival will happen I’m sure

The first game I’ve ever played was hl:dm. I didn’t get around to beating single player until just recently but when I was a kid I loved dm. I play hl2: DM militantly and I’m pretty much one of the only good players left T_T. And that game hasn’t been changed since 2004. As long as there’s at least one active server you can bet I’ll be playing.
Oh and btw devs, if you need some beta testers for DM, I am your man. =p
Yea I saw youtube footage of that mod you’re talking about. I really wish valve would get behind some of these mods because it would really push them forward.
HL2 M Pro is now called Adrenaline Gamer 2… AG2 features some weapons from AG1 but it would need some fine tuning (It needs hl1 jump- and viewhights for example… and sprint should be removed.)… stalkyard for example is not fkn playable… I’m just so glad that there won’t be a gravity gun in BM

Honestly I don’t care about multiplayer at all, because I don’t like it… anger management issues.
But! Half life multiplayer games connected to the half life series are indeed fun for me somehow, so yes I would and will play multiplayer, especially to see some forum users from here to shoot at
I like multiplayer games. I liked the CoD games once, but killstreaks made me rage like shit.
I just want there to be a max amount of weps each player can use,
By that I mean a way of keeping a player from being able to pick up an RPG, Tau cannon, Glou gun, shotgu, Grenade, Hive Hand, and the MP5 or 4 or whatever it was

Not at all. I hate multi-player games. Makes me wonder if I’ll be waiting half my money on Portal 2 since half the game is co-op.

I would not play the Multiplayer, although i do not know why… perhaps im missing soemthing, but i wont care.
If its up to me they can sacrifice the Multiplayer in a voodo-ritual in order to release SP faster
