I sincerely doubt time/resources are being taken away from the single-player for the benefit of the multi-player.

Seriously. Are you fkn dumb? Multiplayer is part of the game… so the mod is NOT finished. For me MP is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than SP… so maybe cancel SP mode and make BM Multiplayer only. WTF?! See my point? BM is both, SP and MP. Sorry for flaming. People like you just make me crazy. If you didn’t like HL1 gameplay then move to a different game. For me HL1 was perfectly thought out… The only problem is, that it got old and looks ugly now. HL1 really needs a renewal.

Yes. It would. For sure it would… It would take away an huge element from hl1 multiplayer gameplay + it has nothing to do with hl1 or 2. It just doesn’t fit HL in general.
If you want 2 weapons then go play Counter-Strike… but BM is not Counter-Strike Source 2, but HL1 rebuild…

xtobix, don’t be such a dick. I can fully understand P(PORTAL)RTAL’s concern. By “finished”, he clearly means the release of the mod (with finished SP only).

Will enough people of the dev team still be motivated enough to do the MP quickly after they have released BM (with finished SP only)?

and maybe you missed it xtobix but MP will not be released at the same time as SP, SP come first and MP was stopped like 3 years ago it needs a big update

I’m not talking about 2 weapons, i’m saying that it is really frusterating constantly getting killed by a guy with an RPG, and it feels really cheap killing people with it. not to mention the Tau cannon and Glou gun and snarks. I just like thing more even like being able to hold 1 large weapon, pistol, and grenades. while another guy is evenly matched with an shotgun, 357., grenades, and like a few grenade launcher grenades

what’s the point? i don’t like this idea.

edit: i can tell you because i don’t like it: half-life has weapon-based gameplay. it’s all about taking all the weapons before an enemy can get them… and when you have picked all the weapons you have the advantage and score when your enemy has no weapons. that’s how it works.
now if you can’t pick up everything you want, it would be harder to get back the advantage… because if your enemy has gauss… he’ll frag frag frag… and it will be very hard for you to stop him… because he’ll controll the good weapons and you won’t have a chance to get good firepower…
further… in HL you have to vary your use of weapons depending on the current situation. every weapon has pro’s and con’s… you can only take back the advantage, when you use all your weapons the right way. your idea just a removal of all micromanagement a player has to master…
like if you had starcraft2 with only one race… the terrans maybe… which could only produce soldiers, tanks and planes… so that you have only 3 units to use in a battle, depending on what you have teched in your three buildings.
your idea brings too many limitations to the gameplay. it’s not hl.

Making it so when you spawn you can at least be able to kill som people without dying from cheap weapons

flee from your enemy and pick a good weapon (edit:after that take more and more weapons and armor while making as many spawnkills as possible) -> problem solved.

All this says is grab the cheapest weapon you can find and that if someone has a cheap weapon too then you run, and spawn killing means that youre a decent player. Unlike you I don’t think spawnkilling means you are a good player, I like it when things are equal and even, when one side has big guns and you don’t that isn’t even. when a player has an RPG and is at a high point in the map that isn’t that fun (Overwatch for example) to me the large weapons should do less damage, have less ammo, or reduce the amount of weapons that player can have. that way skill level isn’t based on the size of the weapon or the amount of snarks you can release to the wild in order to get kills.

I am interested in the multiplayer mode of this mod (more I’m interested the single player mode), if the MP mode is will release, i will play with all my friends.

Multiplayer mods tend to die quickly so I don’t know how much we will even be able to play it like it or not.

I keep seeing “cheap weapons” thrown around, but is there even any real consensus of which weapons those are?

the thing is… when every weapon is equally powerfull, how to play strategic then? you just spawn and know that your enemy doesn’t have any advantage… so you can just run around without any brain and try to kill. i thought a lot about this. i tried to combine quake- and half-life-gameplay in my HL map (on that map… no matter where you spawn, you can get equally good equipment) but it did not work, because it takes away all strategy.
making spawnkills is just part of the game. how to control the map without making spawnkills? it just works like that. in Quake, in UT and in HL… You use your advantage to score.
