Games that are mainstream and high budget that you thought were shit.

It’s a pretty close one between Halo Reach and Black Ops for worst mainstream game of the year. Black Ops is plagued with glitches on the pc version and boring on any system. Halo Reach has far too much emphasis on semi-auto guns with little gameplay variety, few positive changes from previous Halo’s, a lot of shitty custom game modes, a shit engine that can’t draw player models even at medium distance and too much aim assist/bullet magnetism. Oh and very very very shittily made maps.

Anyone have some good candidates for 2009?

I’d say Metro 2033. Small levels with long load times, horrible game play, and very “meh” story and level design.

I didn’t think Black Ops was that bad. Was it the greatest game of the year, not even close, but I didn’t find these bugs and while it’s rather weak story and graphics wise, I still find the CoD series to have some solid game-play.

I don’t know what game you were playing. Metro 2033 loaded really quickly for me.

Black Ops was definitely not the worst game this year. The story was really interesting, at least.

Reach had me playing multiplayer for months and months after its release, but of course, since it’s Halo, it’s automatically shit.

Worst game, for me, would have to be Metro 2033…haven’t gotten terribly far, but there’s a reason for that…

I haven’t played a whole lot of games released this year, but the worst was almost certainly Final Fantasy XIII. Combat was oversimplified, so the most you really had to know was when to switch paradigms. Wasn’t totally horrible, but a little more complexity, like the older installments, would have been nice. But that’s nothing compared to the characterization. As this article brings out, the presentation of the characters made it, at best, hard to connect with them. Some of them cough Vanille cough were just downright irritating.

Alos, the upgrading system didn’t feel very satisfying either. You got a better item when you upgraded, but it wasn’t as simple or gratifying as purchasing a new item and equipping it every time you wanted better stats.

Music and visuals were mostly what it had going for it, but it’s not enough to support the entire game.

Ah, I forgot to mention Tomb Raider Underworld. I only got about an hour in to that game. It was so incredibly boring. There was ZERO combat. It was just one tedious acrobatic puzzle after another with little reflex or skill involved. I finally quit when I got stuck in a big ass room and forgot where I was meant to be going. One hour was too much time spent on that game.

I played Metro2033 for quite a while until I came across an impassable glitch resulting from the game being pirated. I didn’t mind it, most of the game was at least decent. The thing that I really loved about it was the presentation. The game looked utterly spectacular. I was entranced by the stunning environment the entire time.

Whats with all the hate against Metro? I never once had a problem with it, and found the story to be pretty good. The combat wasn’t perfect though, that’s for sure. But I strongly disagree with it being the worst mainstream game all year.

HA! I get it! Its funny, because Episode 3 isn’t actually released.

On topic: I haven’t been playing a lot of new releases, but that’s mostly due to the exorbitant prices over in Australia. If, perhaps, the title could be renamed “most over-hyped” or “most overrated”, then the title would have to lie somewhere between the Kinect and The Force Unleashed 2. What happened after Jedi Academy that made every Star Wars FPS suck?

Cod, Reach, I dont think Metro 2033 is as mainstream as Halo and COD seeing as its the first and probably only game with it’s name.

I would not consider metro 2033 mainstream, I enjoyed it a little as well. The worst mainstream game this year is most certainly Dark Void. That game was terrible.

Lately? No idea. Only new game I have is Minecraft, and I love that one.

From the past? Far Cry was a piece of shit to me. Couldn’t stand that game one fucking bit. It pissed me off on the first level, and kept pissing me off right to the end.

Red Faction and Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix did the same thing for me.
