Worst Mainstream Video Games

Final Fantasy XIV: A game so bad even Square couldn’t charge for it.

Not really. I liked MW 1-2 to a certain extent. And Halo 1-3 were really fun. It’s just developers are starting to realize they’ve made such a name for themselves they don’t have to try any more.

Although COD has some solid gameplay, MW2 and Black ops aren’t as good as their predecessors. Not the worst, but definitely way overhyped and overrated.

I’d like to add the new AvP to that list. Was a huuuge disappointment, especially for an avid Aliens fan such as myself. Fortunately, even though it was mainstream, It was not overrated - although the reviews are stupid as hell - they criticized the game for aspects that made it like the movies, i also recall one saying the predator campaign having too much emphasis on stealth. Yeah, a species based on one from a movie where he remains cloaked for almost the ENTIRE MOVIE has too much emphasis on stealth.

Still though, t’was a bitter disappointment.

yeah, far cry is one game that sticks out in my mind as having been amazingly disappointing. just complete shit. also, all the Tom Clancy games that I played were boring after about an hour or two.

I thought Far Cry was incredible right up until those stupid trigens showed up. But the jungle warfare against the mercs was great.

If we’re talking past games now, I gotta throw Red Faction up.

Man, I loved Red Faction. You people hate too much.

Red Faction was truly awful. I remember going to a friends house to play it. It was meant to be a console fps that was good, he told me. I was disappoint.

What the fuck is with your hate for Halo Reach.

It’s right up there with Halo: Combat Evolved. The amount of online customisation when it comes to game modes is mind blowing. Couple that with a fun SP campaign, decent graphics and awesome weaponry and you have yourself a helluva game.

Playing the SP campaign in co-op on Legendary was some of the most fun I’ve had as a gamer.

Also, “little gameplay variety.” Have you even played all the different game modes in Reach. There’s tons of variety.

And the gameplay flows so well in Reach maps.

Jesus Christ!

EDIT: And on the subject of Black Ops, whilst it didn’t bring much new content or gameplay, it was very refined and improved on a lot of issues that plagued MW2. Kill streak stacking was finally removed and the addition of a Theatre mode was great.

I only played it for about 10 or so hours, then went back to Borderlands and BFBC2 Vietnam.

I think you mean “publishers.” If you think developers make bad games because they’re lazy or like to rest on their laurels, I’m going to have to assume you’ve never had a real job, especially one in the entertainment industry.

I feel kind of bad for the guys at Bungie and Treyarch. It’s gotta suck to get a killer job in an industry you love, then get locked in to working on the same franchise for a decade while constantly bowing down to commands from corporate.

Oh wait, that sounds just like my editing job. :fffuuu:

I haven’t played Reach, but if “it’s up there with Halo: CE” then I know it’s a shitty (or at least mediocre) game.

I love your reasoning

Thank you.

You are an idiot.

You guys are like faggy hipsters. You automatically hate anything loved by everyone else just to look cool and trendy. And it blinds you to the fact that these “shitty mainstream games” are actually good.

So because I don’t like Halo I’m a hipster?

Yeah, not really. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, I downloaded Halo:CE to see if it was good or bad. I found it to be extremely mediocre and boring, and uninstalled it shortly after.

I don’t like it, but not because it’s popular, but because I played it, and I think it sucks.

Which is hard to believe since CE was easily one of the most entertaining games I’ve played. If you said Halo 2 or even Halo 3, I’d at least see how you could not enjoy it.

I wasn’t aware that third person action now means first person shooter.

“Hey, let’s put a Gears of War style cover system…FOR CLIMBING TOWERS! …when you have a jetpack and can easily just fly to the top of it.”

I didn’t even give the game a chance because of that, and I’ve heard the rest of it is terrible too.

I want to see a modern game do GeoMod the way Red faction 1 did it. With full physics and everything. That was the reason I loved the game so much, you could blow up the whole level if you wanted to. Plus, the rail driver was awesome. The only downside to it was that enemies learned from you, so if you sniped people through walls from half way across the map, the enemies would start to do it too.

I found it easily forgettable. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. In the end I just didn’t care that I had played it.

The new Red Faction game…

There was a dune game in '03 that was horrible

and why don’t you say red faction 3 then, if you mean the new one?

So what you are trying to say is that you have a better taste than me and I should like games that you find entertaining?

Hmm. I think ‘tastes’ don’t work like that. I’ll admit it, I didn’t finish the game, but I played a good portion and although I really wanted to like it, it bored me so much that I ended up uninstalling it.

While it IS true that there are people that are just repeating what other people said to sound cool, you can’t insult EVERYONE who didn’t like it just because you think they are indeed jumping on the bandwagon
