I dream of a day when I use my dick to control my pc.
I think M+KB is a LLOONNGG way from getting the boot right now. Other than smart phones, touch screens are only useful for portability over practicality.
I don’t think you realize this, but apart from niche needs desktop pcs and ones that aren’t portable are getting the boot as a whole.
I know plenty of people who don’t even use their desktops and use smart phones / tablets primarily because they are just as good at basic tasks such as surfing the web and msging and such.
Desktops as a whole will die and take kb/m with them.
That’s what kids and nerds are blissfully unaware off.
If you’re ever going to do some serious work, you’re going to at least need a keyboard. Touchscreens just don’t cut it for anything but web surfing and other simple stuff, which they do worse at anyway.
Also note that we are talking in different tenses.
And for serious work - dedicated platforms are used, like artists use pen tablets etc. Just a hypothetic example.
When that sort of stuff gets cheaper and more refined (and it will quite soon) - mouse + keyboard will be food for enthusiasts, nothing more.
Ummmm… How about any single function that requires a large amount of typing? It’d take about 4 times as long to makes this exact same post on an ipad. Perhaps I could whittle it down to 2 times with a LOT of experience using the ipad.
Have you ever tried? I did.
Since ipad landscape mode buttons are virtually the same size as the standard (yes), the only difference is the lack of tactile sensation (which you don’t need anymore since you’re watching the) and the lack of the fifth (numeric) row, which I have no idea why they did not include (didn’t bother me as much as I would imagine however), so you can type letters emails and general documents just as fast.
For anything that was left out, there are techniques that you have to spend some time to get used to, but once you do, it is surprisingly fast.
The only thing that would set you back here is your own shitty typing skills:

If you are a fast typer, you will have no trouble typing on any device.
EDIT: This and we already have thumb typing on the sides demonstrated by Windows 8 if you want to hold it in the air.
If you have big hands, you can do it just as well on the current ipad software since the device is not really that big physically.
Except it feels much better typing on something with a physical keyboard, so you can actually feel it when you are typing.
I’m pretty sure the general office usage of keyboard+mouse is a long way from being phased out.
Plus, gaming, still a huge market.
To be honest, I think it is a bad idea to make the same OS for the Tablets and Windows Phones as the one for the Lap- and Desktops.
[EDIT]
Can you see my background?[/EDIT]
People who say that desktops and kb/m will die are just funny to me. They remind me prophets who estimate world’s end dates, which are predicted for each fucking year, even motnh.
Desktops and kb/m will die just after diesel cars are withdrawn from production and use. Get over it already, trolls.
Why should a bulky non-portable thing stick around when in the near future we will have portable versions that can do the same things. For the average person who just uses computers for internet surfing, facebook, youtube and basic things why should they get a desktop over a tablet?
Its a basic assumption to make based off of consumer needs and technological advancement.
I think saying that kb&m is being phased out is a bit foolish. There’s no doubt that it someday will be replaced with something better, but at the moment too many people and businesses still depend on desktops, even if the smartphone market is growing substantially. Plus, in my honest opinion, touchscreens in their current form aren’t NEARLY good enough to replace kb&m.
I like how it’s code named “windows 8”.
I hope you can disable it, even if it is just a start up screen.
A major point you’re forgetting is that the iphone has an arm processor, not an x86 one.
you haven’t heard? M$$ is re-releasing the desktop version of Windows 7 on ARM (for tablets)
I bet win8 will be ARM only :fffuuu::fffuuu::fffuuu:
Awesome tablets and an awesome UI for quick easy access to find information on the web, and check emails etc. It is the future.
However, can you see yourself sitting down with a tablet and writing out a 20 page report in Office? I doubt it. Were still going to be creating documents and projects on the PC in 10 years time, trust me. But we will just be using these projects and documents on the go much more, think public terminals, office terminals where touch screen systems are used to make changes or send documents to print without loading up a workstation.

You’re own videos proved you wrong. Notice how in both videos the people are leaving out their ring fingers and pinky fingers. Typing with 10 fingers is a hell of a lot faster than typing with 6, the only reason they could type so fast is that they are ninja typers and use their ipads too much.
There are other problems to adress as well. For example, your hands have to be in the same location as the screen. If you are going to be typing a lot, you don’t want to be bending your neck to look at the screen but you also don’t want to have your arms way high up so that you can see the screen better. Then there’s the fact that your hands and the virtual keyboard get in the way. For people who aren’t just completely dicking around, this gets in your way. Desktops and especially laptops are around and here to stay. Whenever you want to do serious or even semi-serious shit you’re going to use a desktop or laptop for so many reasons.
So the question is, are you two trolling, or just fucking retarded?
